If I could give this place negative stars, I woud. I am going to be telling every single thing about why me and my family's stay at this "hotel" was horrible. When we arrived, the staff advised that one of our rooms was not ready (we booked 2 rooms for 5 nights/6 days) due to the previous guests not checked out yet. They were told the room would be ready at 11:30 AM. We went up to the room that was ready, which was my room. When I walked inside, I was disgusted. I was flabbergasted. The pictures online vs. the room in person is completely different. Walking into the bathroom, I immediately notice the bathtub is dirty and has hair in it and so does the sink. Walking further into the room, I see that my air conditioning system looks like those that you see at construction sites. At the bottom of it, it appeared that fluid had leaked and they simply painted over it. Not to mention, it was loud. The lights appear to be stage lights. It made me feel like I was on set or something. The bedside lamps were dirty and crutty. The corner of the ceiling was dusty, along with the walls. It also had cobwebs in the corner and there were various holes too. I could not believe what I was seeing. When 11:30 AM came, we walked back to the desk and asked about the room and were told it still was NOT ready. Looking upon the desk, we noticed there had to be about 50-70 keycards in the box that was labeled "Checked out cards." That alone told us what kind of stay this would be. They called us about the room at 3:30 PM. Finally going to their room, their bathroom was also dirty and both beds were made, yet had stains on them. They had to repeatedly ask for towels because the staff was not giving them any. All of this was day 1 when we arrived. Throughout the remainder of our stay, we began to realize we truly did make a mistake booking this hotel. The staff did not change our sheets ONCE. Avocado had spilt on my bed and caused a little stain, but this happened before they came to "clean the room." When I got back later that evening, the bed was freshly made, but the stain was still there. Me and my family would go to the beach every other day and would come back to shower before leaving again. Of course, sand stains would land in the tub and throughout the entire stay, they did not clean my tub because the stain was there every single day. A day before our departure back home, I come back one evening from being out all morning and afternoon and my room looks "clean." Then, I began to notice something on my ceiling. It was a fly. I do not know what kind, but it was small and had colorful wings. I immediately pulled back the sheets and noticed 3 somehow landed in my bed. Dead. I walk in the bathroom and they are all on the bathroom counter. And the dresser. I was disgusted. The staff was very rude and disrespectful as well. Both hotel and parking staff. Parking is the kicker. For starters, it is only two way. In and out. That is it. The garage is very small and so are the spaces. It was hard to get out each and every time because of how tiny and close together the spaces were. The entire space is narrow and dangerous. My family would just get anxiety just trying to get in and out of the garage. One night, there was no parking whatsoever. Each floor had about 5 empty spaces and they all had cones blocking them off saying "RESERVED." RESERVED FOR WHO? How is it that there are more parking spaces than hotel rooms? Not to mention their rude and lazy staff. Each time we saw them, they were all on their phones, not paying attention; aside from one lady whose name I wish I got. The parking was so worrysome that me and my family basically just walked everywhere. It was too much. This entire stay was too much. We were sold a dream. I will try to include pictures of what I managed to get at the hotel. I know, for a fact, that I will NEVER be staying at Waikiki Malia by...
Read moreI checked into this hotel July 30, 2016, so you can see that my information is current.
I am giving them 2 stars instead of one because the room itself was nice, and I need to give them credit where credit is due. Although, they do need a mirror above the dresser because the only other one, besides the full length one, is in the bathroom which means you can't fix your hair or do make up if someone is in the bathroom.
I am subtracting 3 stars for the following reasons:
The parking is $25/day, and the parking lot's access/exit is difficult. The entry/exit has only one lane which means if a car is going out at the same time as one is entering, one of the cars has to back away. Since, the car entering would have to back into traffic, the one exiting better not have a car behind it to stop it from backing up.
This one is the main reason I am upset with this hotel. Connecting to the internet costs $15.71. Even Motel 6 gives complimentary internet access; at $200/night, I would think that this hotel would provide that. Apparently, I initialed a form when I registered that said I was aware of this. That said, as I was registering, they just talked about taxes and fees but did not mention the cost of connecting to the internet. I just signed and initialed where they told me to sign and initial. Now if my signing this without really being aware of what I was signing was the only problem, I would still be upset at their charging for the internet. but I would've left it at that because I should've paid more attention to what I was signing. However, when I tried to access the internet to check in for my flight that day, I was told to click to find the rates. I was confused about the mention of rates to access the internet, so I clicked to find out what they were. I was then given an option to choose "Complimentary during duration of stay." Of course, that is what I chose. Thus, to charge me later for accessing the internet was inappropriate. I would never have accessed the internet through them if it didn't tell me that it is complimentary, but I would've used my phone instead. This is bait and switch: They gave me the option of complimentary access and then they charged me for it and showed that I knew I would be charged. This is dishonest. If you allow us to choose the complimentary option, you cannot then charge us.
This last reason is reason alone that you should avoid this hotel. I prefer to do business with...
Read moreListen, if you're coming to Hawaii, I hope you're not intending to remain in your hotel room for the duration of your stay. But if you are, you will not be disappointed. Don't let the awesome cost effective price fool you into thinking you're going to be staying in a subpar property. First, the staff are all friendly and welcoming. Edward who often works the parking garage is the nicest guy you'll ever meet. Always happy to help when needed. From the front desk to security and all the staff in the background, they're all topnotch! If you'll be renting a car, this hotel will always have open parking. Yes, you'll pay for daily parking but at a much more affordable rate then any competitor around. Why hassle with trying to find street parking? You don't want to do that in Waikiki. Keep in mind compact is the key to success in Hawaii. As many will notice not only are most of the travel lanes very narrow on the roadway ( I assume it's because of the addition of bicycle lanes) but so are the parking stalls. We had a Mazda CX5 and had no issues getting in and out. I was nice having assurance that our rental car was in a safe place. There is a laundry facility on the fifth floor alongside their fitness room. You're able to kill two birds with one stone! Be smart on how you handle your time = ) Lastly, the rooms are quite cozy, very clean, and you can get a discount for being green conscious and having your room cleaned every fourth day. Yes, you can still request fresh towels as you need them. But it's a huge discount nonetheless. I am very sensitive to beds. Okay, I'm picky. Wherever I stay, a bad bed could make me check out immediately. Waikiki Malia's beds are by far the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in. I actually got really good sleep, every single night so did my son who was traveling with me. Everything you'll need or want is within walking distance and I mean anything. There are no complaints to mention, if you're wanting to put your money towards excursions, dining out or shopping, skip the resorts with the huge swimming pools and price, take a dunk in the ocean instead! There's a narrow swimming pool and hottub on the property, but I prefer the ocean. Whatever your budget is, the Waikiki Malia will only enhance your...
