We were staying at the Ilikai and decided to try the Menhune Grille for breakfast since it was so convenient. The service that morning was great, our server was from Idaho and she was lovely and very friendly. The mochi pancakes were delicious and so were the rest of the meals ordered that morning.
So why the low rating? Because based on our breakfast experience we decided to have dinner and that's where things went wrong.
Our server was a young girl who was rude and seemed inconvenienced by us being there. And we're very easy going and didn't ask for anything really and generally treat wait staff with respect and appreciation! But she was rude to us the entire time for no reason and it made us very uncomfortable.
We ordered our dinner, my spouse ordered fish and chips and I ordered the Hawaiian mixed Plate for my daughter and I to share. Our food took a long time to come out and they were not busy and when it arrived, our server practically threw it at us and walked away. The fish and chips were overcooked and I received the most pathetic excuse of a Hawaiian mixed Plate I have ever seen and paid $40 for a tiny portion-one scoop of rice (knowing it was being shared)! I would have asked and paid for extra rice, but our server ignored us and we just wanted to be done and out of there. This place should be ashamed of themselves for serving "Hawaiian" food like that.
There are many better options on the island, do yourself a favor and don't waste your time or money at this place. Even if...
Read moreAbsolutely skip the food at this place! The veggie stir fry + shrimp was some of the worst restaurant food I have had. The shrimp was way overcooked and the only flavor of the sauce was salt. The “seasonal” veggies were a little strange and I assume came from a bag of frozen. My boyfriend had the wings and said they were “fine”. The food other people had around us didn’t look any better.
The bartender was in no hurry to serve us, but may e that’s just the vibe in Hawaii. She was fine. The live music was fantastic and a great touch. A really excellent guitarist & singer playing mostly classic rock & some Hawaiian music. The rest of the atmosphere is pretty basic touristy, but it’s worth going here for drinks if there’s music (which seems like it might be often. We went on a Thursday evening). Just eat before you go.
P.S. the Kai seltzer is locally owned and worth trying once if you like these kinds of things. I had the lemongrass & it was sweeter than I’d prefer (apparently the other flavors are even sweeter but I didn’t try) but glad I...

Ariana was phenomenal! She has excellent service, she was kind, professional, easy to talk to and never let our glasses go empty. Our order was perfect. The French Toast is my favorite!! All the food we ate and tried was real good, well prepared and presented with a smile. There’s soft Hawaiian music playing in the background. You can hear it, but it’s not loud enough to have to talk over. They have somebody there playing live music every night that can sing like nobody’s business. It’s really a nice replacement from what used to be there. Yulia was phenomenal as well! This place reflects the manager’s attitude! I’m sure glad we found y’all! Full glasses! Hot food, pleasant, no, perfect atmosphere. It’s all well thought out and I appreciate and notice the hard work. I throughly enjoyed myself and over ate each time we went. We’ll be back in 2027 or before. I’m sure you’ll be here with the service, the food, the smiles and the...
