Hightower Deli & Cafe — Restaurant in Houston

As a former employee there... I was the only black person there and half the employees were illegal immigrants there paid under the table if they brought their children to work ... furthermore the food though good is sometimes old and reheated and fed to the customers and as for the bread the sandwiches they were sometimes served on old moldy bread the manager didn't wanna throw out.... the kitchen does not have a stove just an oven and a hot plate and is very dirty and even though I done my best to look past all this and be a team player I was fired for not being fast enough after being moved from server to being put to the back as...

I went down there to get a soup and a half sandwich. I asked them for a Reuben with my soup. They would not accommodate. They said that a Reuben was not part of making your own sandwich, that it had too many components. A Reuben consists of corned-beef, sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing; some made add cheese. Anyhow this was absolutely absurd and it was the manager of the deli that gave me this answer and was very rude. I would avoid going to this deli unless...

Up until about February of 2014 this was a great deli. Apparently the management changed and now it is awful. They are frequently out of items. The workers have extreme difficulty understanding English and they are slower than molasses in the winter time! This is an office deli!
