Read moreI used to come to this restaurant when it was still called Nga's Restaurant. They had some of the best tasting broth for Pho that i'd ever had and the food is cheap. When you walk in, the place has been completely remodeled and looks so much better and everything is so wide open. I recognized a few of the waitstaff, so I'm under the assumption that it's under the same ownership, just renamed and revamped.
Once we ordered it did not take long for the food to come out. My buddy and I each ordered Pho and the other two ordered the Bo Luc Lac. While our Pho was delicious, the Bo Luc Lac came with some weird yellow rice reminiscent of Spanish rice. Normally at other places, it would be normal white rice, and from what they were saying it was hard and didn't taste fresh. We were joking to ourselves that maybe they ran out of white rice, but then as we were leaving, we noticed some of the employees hauling new bags of white rice in from the parking lot...so maybe they really did run out of white rice and kind of improvised.
The Pho was good and my buddy agreed! I got the small bowl of chicken pho, which was more than enough for me. My small bowl of Pho seemed to go up a dollar or so since last I was here, but it's still a pretty cheap and filling lunch for me. Not to mention Tuesdays are free Vietnamese Iced Coffee days! Mondays are free iced tea days.
I definitely recommend Simply Pho for some cheap and tasty Vietnamese food around the midtown area, but it can be hit or miss depending on what you order. It's across the street from where Van Loc used to be and also right next to YogaOne and...
Read moreI made an account just to write this review--this is the first ever review I've ever written on google, but I felt so strongly about the food that I had to.
I ordered their beef pho and chicken banh mi from grub hub. The order got delayed 3 times, which may or may not have been their fault. But when the food arrived, it was a disaster. Needless to say, the food arrived cold. Which, again, may not have been their fault.
The quality of the food is where my biggest issue lies. The beef inside the pho was the chewiest meat I've ever put in my mouth, it literally felt like bubble gum and had no taste to it. I couldn't eat the pho because I was afraid the meat wasn't real or that it was so old or undercooked that I'd get food poisoning.
So I called grubhub and got a refund for the soup. Then I opened up the banh mi chicken sandwich and figured I'd just eat that, because I've never had a bad banh mi in my life. Of course, this was the most unpleasant banh mi I've ever had. The overly-shredded chicken they put inside the sandwich was dryer than paper, it literally crumbled into dust and tiny flakes when I rubbed it softly between my fingers. They also doused the entire sandwich in salt. It was so dry and salty that I couldn't eat the sandwich either.
Now I'm out $21 and still have an empty stomach at home. Maybe these guys save the meat that is about to expire and give it to their delivery customers... Or maybe they just buy...
