My friends and I are always trying our random places weâve never been for happy hour. We decided that weâd give this place a try and I was pleasantly surprised.
Itâs located in the Midtown area off of Fannin. I always look for landmarks, so to find this place, look for a white brick building with 3100 in large black numbers. I wasnât really able to see this place clearly from the street because itâs kinda small and tucked back from the street.
Two of my friends parked on Main St with metered parking. I, along with my other two friends, parked at the lot directly across the street from the white brick building. I believe the corner of Elgin and Fannin. I scanned the parking QR code and it said the lot was free i until 8 pm so score!!
I personally only had two glasses of Riesling and a Jell-O shot. Both were good. The Jell-O shot was very sweet and had a nice consistency. It wasnât too runny like some others are and the alcohol wasnât too strong. My friends ordered a variety of cocktails and each one I tasted was good. No complaints. There was one called Blood of my Enemies, Again and it was my favorite. Itâs a frozen drink. Donât get the Houston Swanger. Didnât taste it, but my friends didnât care for that one.
The overall atmosphere of this bar is very chill. It reminds me of a simple neighborhood hole in the wall. Nothing overly fancy, but just a chill, relaxed, open atmosphere. Nothing pretentious or over the top. Sometimes the Houston bar scene can be annoying because of all the posing and posturing people do, but you wonât experience that here at all.
I wouldâve given 5 stars except for three things: 1) they need more wine selection. I only saw three on the menu and 2) when I went to the restroom to wash my hands, the toilet had the lid raised, and was filled with urine. Not the barâs fault that someone didnât flush, but most places do complete bathroom checks so just something that grossed me out. 3) there is no food at this bar. We walked to nearby Winnieâs to get some bar food (wings, burgers, fries, etc)
I would def visit this place again. If youâre into low key places with a quirky retro feel, give...
Read moreTwo Headed Dog is exactly the type of bar that's needed at this part of the Houston Midtown neighborhood. This place has a chill front patio that feels warm and relaxing and a cozy indoor seating and great music being played all night long. So for the first timer, you might not even find this bar because it's slightly hidden, which also makes you feel like you found a nice hidden oasis all for yourself. But just look for some tall wooden fences and a yellow door. Also, there's a free parking lot across the street on Fannin street that can be used for people who are coming to this bar.
Let's talk about the drink first, pretty much everything is good but it does take a taste or two to find your new favorite at Two Headed Dog. Right now the menu is limited but sometimes less is more. They have a great line-up of frozen cocktails and great things on tap. If you know what you want that's not on the menu, they can make it for you. Be warned, this is not your typical bar, this is more of a Montrose style bar that have great craft beer selection and vibe, after all, the owners were from Grand Prize Bar and worked at places like Poison Girl, etc.
The staffs are friendly and well knowledge on the things served here. Two Headed Dog recently installed a hook & ring game on the outdoor patio area near the formerly bird bath/water fountain table. And the owner inform me at the time that they will install a dart board on the other side of the container. Oh, one of the spot people like to do is take selfie in the restroom right? Well, what better selfie in the restroom when the whole wall is covered with pages from vintage Playboy!? Seriously, if you like places in Montrose but you're in Midtown, time to come and visit Two Headed Dog and you will not be disappointed. Don't forget to get shots of Amaro Montenegro for your party, trust me, everyone...
Read moreTwo Headed Dog is a fantastic cocktail bar with a vibrant, divey charm thatâs hard to beat. The atmosphere is lively and unique, with cool decor (the bathroom walls are a must-see!) and a great patio for chilling. The bartenders are top-notchâsuper friendly and skilled at mixing up creative, high-quality drinks at wallet-friendly prices. The seasonal cocktail menu is a standout, and the local beer selection is solid too.
That said, they donât serve food, so come prepared to grab a bite elsewhere or from nearby food vendors. Parking is pretty much nonexistent, so plan to walk, bike, or use a rideshare. These quirks keep it from a perfect five stars, but they donât overshadow the great experience. Two Headed Dog is an awesome spot for drinks and good times in Houstonâdefinitely...
