I was roaming the streets in Houston just for the weekend. My kids and I were looking for a good place to eat but didn't know the area. Until I saw the corner of my eye, I spotted this place driving, and after looking at it, it seemed like an old-fashioned burger place. So we decided to try it and see what this place is all about. First off, it is kind of cramped inside, but it won't stop me because I understand it's only a downtown place. But man, there are so many options from, of course, burgers, chicken sandwiches, regular sandwiches, and chicken tenders. I've decided to get a Chili Cheese Burger while the kids wanted the chicken tenders. The timing for a busy place was not bad, pretty fast, I might say. The first bite I took and knew it was just that old fashioned burger feel when you look at this place from the old side. And the chicken tenders are not your normal fast food place. Mostly all chicken and not filled with bread trying to make it look bigger. And on top of everything, FINALLY a place that serves hot sauce/ spicy ketchup. But yet, that's just a personal preference for me. Overall if I go back to Houston I'll be one of those people saying before I drive back home I need to stop at Wimpy's or better yet the first thing I do when I get there is to go to Wimpy's. To the owner of this place, keep it up. I will...
Read moreGood downtown breakfast and burger spot, located on Polk St. beneath the Hyatt Regency street span. Breakfast tacos are a deal, $2.19 each, or buy 2 get 1 free, and include all the usual ingredients--fresh eggs, and choice of bacon, sausage, chorizo, potatoes, etc. Lots of fresh-made burger and sandwich options; combos are in the $8.50 to $9.50 range, and include fries and a drink. Generous in size with fresh ingredients. Big entree salads are good; try the buffalo chicken salad for a nice, spicy kick (order the dressing on the side). Be prepared to wait 10 minutes or so as each order is prepared when ordered. Owner/manager is friendly and eager to please. Seating is limited; outdoor sidewalk seating is added during the lunch hour, and is pretty full every day. Brisk business of both dine-in and...
Read moreWhat I received was just ok. I was very surprised based on how busy the place always is. Next time I will try a burger to give them another shot, but those did not look to appetizing at the time. My club sandwich had a ton of mayonnaise on it but was fine other than that. The fries were average and not crispy. Part of this may be due to how busy the lunch rush is, but that has to be your bread and butter for downtown establishments.
They staff was very nice and working super hard, but I likely won’t be back unless someone is really wanting to go there. The only complaint I have is that because of the speed at which they are running around to complete orders, everyone was touching everything to get things done (including taking orders...
