Wokker, located in the "Underground Hall," was a great visit. The food was absolutely delicious. A little on the spicy side, but well worth all the flavors. The "Chicken -n- Greens Dumplings" didn't sound appealing to me, but I was greatly surprised. Moist, tender and seasoned deliciously and served with Plum Sauce (you know, the Orange Sauce that's usually served in a packet with Egg Rolls), that's served fresh. I highly recommend ordering the Dumplings! I made the mistake of ordering 6 Dumplings; I should have ordered the 12 count. You' won't be disappointed. As for the "Jalapeno Bites," extraordinary! They have their own twist on this popular appetizer, as it's Cream Cheese, Garlic, and chopped Jalapenos, wrapped in a Wanton, like a Crab Rangoon. Talk about filled! Here to they are served with Plum Sauce. As for my main entre, the "Smoked Chicken Fried Rice," the portion size was very good. Now, this entre does come with Kimchi and a Fried Egg. However, I happened to forgo those 2 items from my entre. Finally, there is the beverage. $4.°° may seem a bit high, however you are talking about Downtown. The plus being, by ordering a Fountain Drink you have free refills. Being that this is a Dining Hall, all the other eateries sell individual cans, bottles, etc. But, no free refills. The Wokker is the only one that has free refills on their Fountain Drinks. Now then, as for the 4 stars. The, "Underground Hall," is exactly that, underground. With that being said, this Dining Hall is not Handicap Accessible. There is no Elevator provided. And the Staircase is the only way, in and out. Upon entering, you'll find a sign that reads: "No Public Restrooms." Don't let that fool you. They do have Public Restrooms indoor, albeit, and yet ironic, with a Handicap Stall. Last but not least, be sure to bring a Credit Card. As all the Establishments inside do not...
Read moreSo I had the pleasure of tasting wokker food on May 5th at the White Oak Music Hall concert before the lawn show started. They only had a few options to choose from since it was the food truck but every option looked tasty.
I paid $14 for the Pickin’ Chickin. And $3+ for a bottle of water. Took only about 5-7 minutes to get food.
The chicken was small nuggets lightly battered, with onions and peppers on a bed of curly fries. With a side of miso ranch.
When I first got my food I thought this looks so good and smells amazing but the chicken looked a little dry. Surprisingly it was JUICY, and crispy! The flavor of the chicken definitely had a good pepper/umami flavor to them. I’m not sure if they were using white meat chicken but thankfully it tasted like it.
The curly fries weren’t my favorite, I think they could have used a little salt. They were a little soggy and greasy as well due to being in a box under the chicken and veg. The miso ranch was a perfect flavor addition to the chicken.
The onions were cooked perfectly. They were soft and easy to chew and had good flavor. The peppers I wish had been chopped up smaller I had a few 1 inch thick sized pieces that were filled with seeds. So I couldn’t really eat those pieces.
I also want to thank the female worker who was working there that night. She was so courteous to me and respectful. I’m disabled and was using a walker and couldn’t trek through all the water and mud, and she stopped what she was doing to grab my food and utensils for me since the sidewalk was blocked.
All in all I’ll definitely eat here again when I’m in the area to try more of their...
Read moreIf you’re in the mood for a dining experience that feels more like an urban obstacle course, this might be your spot. Tucked away in what’s referred to as the “underground hall” — a maze-like, dimly lit food court connected to several other eateries — the location leaves much to be desired in terms of ambiance and clarity. A visible sign or better guidance would go a long way.
The surrounding area has a gritty, uneasy vibe, not exactly family-friendly, and certainly not the most welcoming setting if you’re simply looking to enjoy a meal in peace.
We visited specifically to try Wokker, and unfortunately, the food didn’t redeem the experience. The dish featured fried chicken atop curly fries, haphazardly tossed with an odd onion mixture — a confusing medley that didn’t quite harmonize. It wasn’t terrible, but far from memorable, and certainly not worth the hassle of finding parking and navigating the location.
In short: an underwhelming dish in an unsettling environment. Not recommended, especially for those dining with children or looking for a relaxed outing. Don’t go on a Saturday Night...
