Overall the experience was lackluster. The server we got was very soft spoken - so much so if it were any busier than 3 tables he would be inaudible. The kitchen was also playing music loud enough to be audible from the other end of the restaurant. Servers allowed to stand in their social circles for several minutes on end. Overall it seems the staff have no real discipline when the place is slow.
We ordered the takoyaki, and veitnamese summer roll for appetizers. Takoyaki wasnt anything spectacular. Just run of the mill in flavor for more money and less quantity. The summer rolls were extremely large, and dense. Couldve done with a pan sear but im not familiar enough with that dish to know all about it
For entrees, my spouse got the tonkatsu ramen, and i got the bento box combo. The pork belly and the tonkatsu broth both had a fairly noticeable burnt taste to it. Too much to ignore, and the pork belly was either under or overcooked. Extremely tough despite it being a very fatty piece of meat. Seems instead of rolling it and then baking, they just baked the whole slab losing out on a lot of the tenderness by losing the fat. The edges of the cuts were singed almost fully black instead of the traditional toasted brown. The bento box was alright. The miso soup was similarly burnt somehow, the chicken was intensely overcooked. Felt like i could floss with it. The sauce was okay for the teriyaki over the chicken however. The tempura shrimp and veggies were fairly tasteless. Was presented with no sauces, salt, pepper, or even soy sauce with the California rolls.
My spouse had received the ramen about 5 minutes before i had gotten my meal. Very awkward on timing
I had asked for a Sapporo as the entrees were arriving, and didnt get it until the end of the meal. Server forgot, but apologized and comped it from the bill.
Overall, for the prices that they have, the food quality is not worth it. Everything was tough and almost floss grade. The stocks were burnt, and you get no additional sauces unless you ask. I recommend the Ramen Bar Kazoku on the south end of Charlotte. More economical and vastly better food quality, or even the ramen spot in the concord mills mall. Theyve consistently produced good quality...
Read moreBefore I leave my review I want to give some context. I am 25, travel for work, and worked in the restaurant industry for multiple years before my current job. That being said, it takes A LOT for me to leave a negative review. I want to be fair, so I will say I ordered via UberEats. I am on the road and staying in a hotel near by and as a young woman with a company vehicle it is often safer for me to order delivery. I will not rate the service or atmosphere because I did not experience either of those myself in person. That being said, I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and it is literally so insanely salted. I am not one to shy away from salt, flavor, spice, seasoning etc… however, eating this ramen was impossible due to the fact that it was so heavily salted it was almost like I was eating something that was cooked with sea water. I understand this could have totally been an off night or something, and I don’t want my review to turn people away from what looks like a really awesome spot… I just wanted to bring attention to the fact that this specific dish could possibly need some work. Packaging of my order was great and it was made in a timely manner!!! I just wanted to raise my concern about the fact that this meal was not only unpleasant, but inedible due to the...
Read moreWe had high hopes for this place. First I will say our server was amazing and he made the experience enjoyable.
Now to the not-so-good part. I ordered a glass of wine. They send their glasses out chilled. That's fine but if you're going to do that make sure to inspect them and make sure they are clean. My glass had lip rings around the rim of the glass. They corrected that and felt bad about sending it out like that. I didn't even make a huge fuss about it at the time.
Now to the food. My husband and I shared 2 sushi rolls. We eat a lot of sushi. We're not sushi connoisseurs by any means but we do know what sushi should taste like. It shouldn't be soggy and drenched in sauce. The rice was so wet it looked like a paste that encased the fish. I hesitated in writing this review because we should have said something about the sushi at the time. But after the wine incident, that they corrected, we didn't want to come across as complainers looking to get something for free. We understand new restaurants always have kinks to work out in the first few months of opening. You have a great foundation with the staff. It's the food that needs a little work.
Our daughter did...
