Carsten’s Bakery is charming and incredibly delicious!! It is one of the best kept secrets in Eastern Idaho!
This German bakery is utterly delightful and totally unique! If you are a foodie it would be well worth the trek or a side trip to try the outstanding pastries, cookies, cakes and other treats here.
(I am always astonished that even people who have lived in the area for years have never visited or even heard of it!)
This is one of those lovely family-run businesses that uses recipes, over 100 years old, that were passed down by their grandfather Willi, a master baker who trained in Germany. Do try to get there early because at times by noon they will be running low or out of popular items!
Their raisin cookies are unique and delicious—sweet raising filling gently encase in sugar cookie dough and baked to crisp perfection. I also love their cheese Danish, it’s not overly sweet and the dough that is soft and pillowy. The bagels are also slightly crisp on the outside and chewier than most bagels, I like them with cheese. The chocolate chunk cookies are to die for and the donuts, cream horns, and cream puffs are marvelous as well! You may as well pick up a pie or a loaf of homemade bread while you are there as well!
The service is always friendly, efficient, and you’ll feel right at home! Do...
Read moreGREAT FOOD and really nice people! You can get one of the best sandwiches you will ever have here, and it's not too expensive, and the people who work here are always super polite and friendly. There's not really much of a place to eat, so it's take-out only, but once you park someplace and open up your bag, you'll have an AMAZING sandwich. They also have lots of delicious baked goods, cookies, little cakes, and tons of stuff that I am not supposed to eat too often. I usually just grab the nice healthy fresh sandwiches, but when I do grab something from their baked goods cases, I will admit it is probably the best tasting baked stuff you can find in Idaho Falls. My only complaint is actually a HUGE one for me .... they are NOT open on Monday's, which is the ONE day I am always downtown. So, almost EVERYTIME I go there is a Monday and they are closed. On the few occasions each month when I get downtown on a different day, their great food only makes me even MORE upset when I see the CLOSED sign on Mondays. I guess that really is more of MY problem then their problem, but once you try their food you will understand why it's always upsetting to see the word CLOSED on their door, no matter what day it is. I wish Idaho Falls had 4 places like this , and open 24...
Read moreI rate Carstens' Bakery FIVE (5) stars and highly recommend. I have been going to Carstens' Bakery regularly (as in possibly 150+ times) since July of 2017. Carstens' Bakery first caught my eye when I (a newcomer to town) stumbled upon it while returning on a walk from the water tower. Bakery happens to be due east of the water tower. It stood out as either old fashioned or highly retro. Turns out it is both. The baker, Willi Carstens, is an immigrant from Germany who has earned the title of THE TOWN BAKER. He is an icon around here. The menu hearkens to the days of the Great Depression when bakeries were considered a high value for one's dollars. I'm talking when decimals were not used and all prices were assumed to be in cents. The Town Baker sticks to a narrow selection of baked goods that he makes very well. I, D.M. Boren, M.D.; hereby pledge my word of honor that I am a paying customer, that it is unsolicited, and that it is materially accurate to the best of...
