Awesome NASA display. Wish there had been more tribute to the Apollo 1, Challenger and Columbia accidents though because of their impact on flight safety as well as the loss of the astronauts and impact on the lives of their families. One note about the Apollo 1 incident, they didn't die from smoke inhalation. They died from the results of the intensity of the flames that they were exposed to. Would have loved to see the space suits that were used by the shuttle astronauts. The Clark Planetarium in Salt Lake city has a suit that was actually used. The privilege to touch a Mars meteorite and the Moon meteorite was a once in a lifetime experience that I will forever treasure. I we thank the staff of the museum and NASA for providing the experience of learning more about the universe. I hope to live long enough to see the first landing on Mars. I, like many others have been privileged to experience all the missions of man to reach out of earth's atmosphere. A tremendous amount of memories that I am able to share with my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
What a true treat stopping at this museum was. I learned so much about the state of Idaho, from the native American Indian tribes to the farming history to the types of gems that can be found in the state, etc. The stuffed animals on display were fascinating, as were the storefront displays with information about certain items. I could tell that whoever contributed to putting the displays together cared a great deal about what he/she was doing. The native American Indian artifacts were incredible! I enjoyed seeing so much handcrafted materials as well as the artifacts of people who lived on the homesteads in the state in the past. Learning about some of the plants that grow in the area peaked my interest, and there was a great description of the sagebrush that I came across. Everything was intriguing at the Museum of Idaho. It was a trip well worth it, in my opinion and I would go back again. There's quite a bit to see.
This place was really cool and informative, especially for only paying $13 a person! I was really impressed with all of the different forms of animal anatomy in the "Animals Inside Out" exhibit and really appreciated the opening signs that disclosed that no animals were harmed in the making. The other section of the museum called "Way out West" which had very cool artifacts and interactive activities throughout. From the huge mammoth to the storefronts of a late-19th century town, this is worth visiting at least once! It could use clearer signs to point out which direction to go but that's okay. It is kid (stroller) and wheelchair accessible and has a kids exhibit section too though I didn't visit it. The volunteers in parts of the museum were so sweet, knowledgeable and helpful in directing us through! We had a great time! Thank you.
Opened in 2003, the Museum of Idaho links the Idaho Falls’ historic Carnegie Library and Masonic Temple with a modern glass atrium. The museum has amassed important collections covering fields like paleontology, archaeology, geology and the history of Idaho’s native inhabitants and its 19th-century settlers. These are displayed in wonderfully curated short term exhibits, and are often combined with high-profile traveling exhibits. Past shows have dealt with topics as varied as dinosaur eggs, pirates, steampunk, bioluminescence, guitars, Egyptology, Ancient Rome and artifacts from the Titanic. The Museum of Idaho organizes a wealth of educational programs for children and adults, from archaeology tours to special Nights at the Museum.
The Toytopia exhibit at the museum is incredible. It's very interactive, the kids (and adults) can play with toys while learning about the history of toys. It was fun to show my kids toys I played with as a child as well as toys my parents told me they had played with when they were children. I love the Idaho focused part of the museum as well. There's so much to learn and the people who work and volunteer there are so helpful and knowledgeable. As I was going through the museum with my young children I kept thinking, "I should bring my husband here for a date night! He'd love this exhibit!" There's so much to see and do and learn. It's well worth a visit.
I've seen multiple exhibits over the years, I have seen the old museum and the recently added on to museum. While I enjoyed the old Idaho side much more than I do now, it still is cool to see! Hence the reason for four stars instead of five. While I do also understand change is a good thing... They have things that come and go so I don't want to be specific display wise, but every one I've gone to has been extremely fun for me and I enjoy it always! The price for an adult is $13, so take time to read everything and enjoy it! Photos are from current May 2021 exhibit! The Animals inside out!
