Had company drive an hour to come to the museum -then watched the museum turn away 10 carloads of people because the stairs were slick- that is what we were told. Ice melt people!??? They just lost approx. $1500 in 5 minutes- plus much much more through the whole day because the stairs were slick. Can't roll my eyes any harder. Won't be back.
Added after museum reply- Here is the advisory from state of Idahol at 11:00 the time we got to the museum- and they told us they were opening late at noon: (which you didnt) "UPDATE (11:09 a.m.): Road conditions are improving and public safety departments are responding to fewer vehicle accidents following the freezing rain earlier this morning. Motorists are still encouraged to slow down, use caution, and allow plenty of time to stop. The Idaho Falls Street Division has applied salt and sand to high traffic priority roads and are now taking care of residential streets. They will continue to address problem areas throughout the day-- PLEASE SLOW DOWN -- We are currently responding to multiple accidents due to slick conditions. Several vehicles have been involved in an accident at Yellowstone Avenue & G Street. " Nowhere does it say do not travel. The employees were already at the museum- so you sent them home? But we made the best of it- thank you East Idaho Aquarium for being open...
Read moreGreat community resource. I'm always impressed with the exhibits that they showcase. My family has an annual pass to the museum which more than worth the price. Over the years, I've gone to probably around 15-20 different exhibits. I'm always impressed by the size of the exhibits and the quality. The museum is not very big, especially when you factor in all of the standard exhibits that never change. They always seem to pack a ton of stuff in. In recent years, the museum has seemed to have fewer and fewer historical exhibits and more science exhibits based in a historical context. Like machines in Rome, Space, this also includes the current (2018) Dinosaurs in motion. I am an Asian historian and would love for the museum to get more strictly historical exhibits. I understand that maybe they are not as "fun," but the museum has always done a good job of making history come alive for children and adults alike. That being said, no matter the exhibits, my family love going here on a regular basis. It will be nice when the new addition is finished and we can hopefully get even more prestigious exhibits coming to our little corner...
Read moreAwesome NASA display. Wish there had been more tribute to the Apollo 1, Challenger and Columbia accidents though because of their impact on flight safety as well as the loss of the astronauts and impact on the lives of their families. One note about the Apollo 1 incident, they didn't die from smoke inhalation. They died from the results of the intensity of the flames that they were exposed to. Would have loved to see the space suits that were used by the shuttle astronauts. The Clark Planetarium in Salt Lake city has a suit that was actually used. The privilege to touch a Mars meteorite and the Moon meteorite was a once in a lifetime experience that I will forever treasure. I we thank the staff of the museum and NASA for providing the experience of learning more about the universe. I hope to live long enough to see the first landing on Mars. I, like many others have been privileged to experience all the missions of man to reach out of earth's atmosphere. A tremendous amount of memories that I am able to share with my children, grandchildren and great...
