We have previously ate at their food truck at the Yellowstone Food Village and enjoyed it. I was looking forward to trying their brick and mortar location. We came by on a Saturday before the dinner rush. I was surprised to see that their menu online didnât match the menu in the restaurant, some dishes were different but the prices were all $2 higher. The inside of the building appears to have been redone recently, new paint and wallpaper. However, the mismatched tables and chairs make the place look a little sketchy. I think if they did some additional finishing touches, this place would have a better first impression. Iâm okay getting authentic Mexican food at a place that looks sketchy right? But when Iâm getting sushi, raw fish, Iâm going to be a little more selective. Anyways, we ordered a total of five rolls. We ordered the Billy Roll, which was my favorite hands down. It has a lot of raw fish on it and has a little lemon slice which was unique but tasted great. We also ordered the Hot Mama, this was a large roll that packed a bunch of flavor while being a little spicy. The Wanda roll was a special of the day roll and it was alright. We also had the snow drop roll which has great presentation and tasted great. Lastly, we had a classic roll, the Salmon tempura roll. It was also good. I tend to order rolls that have salmon on them or a variety of raw fish on them. Yoimi just doesnât offer that many rolls with raw fish. The majority of the rolls are tempura or have imitation crabmeat. I think this place can be a great sushi place if they make a few tweaks. Great service, and I will be back for a second shot at...
Read moreI could absolutely not rant and rave about this small sushi bar more!!! They are FANTASTIC, and have done a stellar job in every single way⊠Iâve only visited the one time, and had them delivered once tonight as well, but I can confidently say this rivals Fuji Sushi & Hibachi for HALF THE PRICE.
The environment is lovely, a small, cozy sushi bar with a direct view of the kitchen. We were seated immediately, and within 30 seconds of sitting down a wonderful waitress came to get our drink / appetizer order. Drinks were brought out in a very quick manner, and our order was taken for the main course at that point. During the entire interaction, she was beyond friendly and kind. She also NEVER left our drinks empty for more than a minute.
The food? Arrived in less than 10 minutes from ordering, as hot as can be. It was also plated and presented beautifully. As far as taste goes, I ordered the Filet and Chicken meal, and it was FAR superior to that of ANY Hibachi grill in Idaho Iâve been to. My fiancĂ©e got the snowdrop sushi roll, and has been begging me to take them back to get it again since! Lastly, the portion sizes were unbelievably large for the price. I received a massive plate of chicken, and what seemed to be a great portion of the filet!
Overall, it was well priced, at only -$35 for two of us to have great meals! Service was fantastic, environment was stunning, and staff was GREAT. This is now one of our FAVORITE places to get a good meal in town, and we will definitely be going back and raving about this to all of our fellow sushi and...
Read moreLet me make this clear from the get-go: the staff are extremely friendly, the establishment is well-kept given the historic building's age, and the food/kitchen itself is clean.
What I didn't like was how over-Americanized everything on the menu was. I swear, 80-90% of the offerings on the sushi menu involve cream cheese or are deep fried. Normally when I leave after a sushi meal I feel "refreshed" in a way, but leaving this restaurant had me feeling like I had a brick in my stomach. It's just oil, oil, oil, fry this, fry that. Even the side of noodles was drenched in oil.
There is a time and a place for these kinds of restaurants. Some people when they think of "sushi" may imagine dishes like the ones offered here- a golden-brown caterpillar covered in five different sauces and a heap of extra toppings over it all. But it just... isn't for me. It's not what I crave when I want sushi, and I categorize this place as a one-off "guilty pleasure" sort of restaurant.
I wish the owners continued success in their endeavors, as they've obviously carved a segment of the market out for themselves here, but I'm personally going to go in the direction of fresher, raw, fish-focused, not-so-grease-filled sushi...
