Smokin Fins - Idaho Falls — Restaurant in Idaho Falls

I asked my husband if we could try Smokin Fins for our anniversary. I had seen great reviews for a while and wanted to stray from our traditional places we eat.

We were impressed with the decor and seating, we didn't feel that we were sitting too close to our neighbors, which was nice.

Our server was nice, very helpful and quick to return often to check on us.

I ordered the shrimp tacos, which the menu indicated was a favorite. My husband ordered a sushi roll and we also tried the lobster tots!

Our tots were delicious, honestly, if we do come back it would be for those. My husband did not like the flavor of his sushi and the texture of the fish... I tried a bite as well and the fish was really mushy. He didn't even eat half of his meal because ot was really rather gross.

My tacos came with a side of rice, which was really flavorful and the best part of the meal. The inside of the taco was okay, the shrimp was rather chewy, but it still tasted okay. The homemade tortillas though....guys...they are bad! I had three other tables around me order the tacos and everyone had at least two tortillas out of the three left on their plate when they were done. They are so soggy that everything just falls right through and you literally have to eat the ingredients with a fork. This should be fixed ASAP!

We ordered a cheesecake to go...also pretty good!

All in all, the service was great, the food was pretty but there are some pretty big flaws if you're going to tout your...

I wanted to like this place but so many things went wrong. We did get our drinks shortly after sitting down to the bar. We decided to order a sushi roll to share as am appetitizer and looked forward to it.

Unfortunately neither our roll nor any of the three guys behind the bar wanted to come see us. The roll was never put in and the guys were all preoccupied with the girl at the end of the bar. After being passed up three times wanting to order our dinner, one of the guys noticed me impatiently tapping my menu on the bar. Our tacos were ordered and after another 20 minutes we were concerned about making it to our evening event on time. Tacos did arrive and were alright, though the rice was mushy, but it was then I realized our roll was never to be.

When the bill arrived I asked to speak to the manager and he quickly arrived. I realized he was the 4th man who had become preoccupied with the girl at the end of the bar. I told him we needed to go and he said he'd see what happened. The manager never returned but one of his bartenders did drop by eventually to tell us our meal had been comped. While I appreciated this, it did little to assuage my girlfriend's or my feelings about the experience. We made sure to leave an appropriate tip and left.

Maybe it was just that night as I rarely leave a negative review, but I would be hard pressed to return next time I'm in...

We have been here twice in the first week of their opening...absolutely brilliant experience on both occasions. Excellent service, very friendly and caring staff...love these people. Just a few suggestions if you're stopping in to eat...try everything! Tonight we had the Seared Scallops and Ahi Tuna, the Pecan Crusted Grouper and the Lobster Mac n Cheese...all of which were perfectly prepared, nicely seasoned and full of flavor. The appetizers of Calamari with the Key Lime Aioli and the Kickin' Shrimp set a great mood for starters. And the dessert menu leaves nothing to be desired. So far we've experienced the Bread Pudding with caramel bourbon sauce - killer good, the Key Lime Pie, and our first night enjoyed the Spiced Pumpkin Cheesecake, hands down the best pumpkin cheesecake I've ever had. Also, the Prime Sandwich...best prime rib sandwich and the Smokin Ribeye...flavors that drive me to want to come back here way too often. I can't recommend Smokin Fins enough, so glad they came to Idaho Falls...oh, and before I forget to mention...absolutely wonderful atmosphere and thanks to the beautiful lady who worked magic in designing the inside of this stunning eatery. And I didnt even go into the specialty drinks! Special thanks to Kenny, Kendra and the very lovely Brigette, along with all the rest of the crew we look forward...
