There is a local Indian joint right by my house that my daughter and I used to frequent for lunch. They had a lunch buffet during the week. It was nice being able to try a sorts of different options they had on certain days. After covid, they stopped offering lunch buffet. It was such a bummer not having them as a fun lunch option anymore. Well, today we found Bombay Grill and we couldn't be happier.
We arrived a little after 11. I totally thought we were going to be the first ones there. I was wrong! There were a handful of guests already enjoying their lunch! My daughter and I got sat at a little cozy table and our server let us know that the buffet was open.
The options today were fantastic! They had two types of rice, butter chicken, curry chicken, chicken tikka masala a potato with green beans mix, tandoori chicken and many more. There were also a handful of color chutney options. I didn't notice any naan at the buffet area but the waitress gave us a little basket of warm naan. You can not not have naan with all this Indian food.
I grabbed a little bit of everything! My plate looked devine. I started off with the veggie pakora. Wooooww! It had big pieces of onion, cauliflower and potatoes fried in a flavorful batter. I dipped that fried, crunchy baby in the butter chicken sauce. Ahhhh it was so good! The butter chicken was yummy! I like that the sauce wasn't crazy thick. I added some of the butter chicken sauce on top of my veggie biriyani. The curry chicken was flavorful and the chicken was so tender. The chicken tikka masala had great flavor but the chicken was a little dry. The potato and green bean mix was spicy and tasty! I didn't try the tandoori chicken or the chutney this time around. I was so full after my first plate but i wanted to get my money's worth. So I grabbed a small helping of veggie biriyani and butter chicken the second time around.
I did notice a gal who was enjoying lunch go to the buffet bar a couple times with a coffee mug. Curiosity got to me and I headed back to the bar to see what she was drinking. They offer hot Indian Chai tea. I poured myself a cup and added a little sugar that they had in a bowl to the side for you. I am officially obsessed with this tea! It was so hot and aromatic from all the spices! You can smell the spices in it! The cardamom really stood out to me. Eating the savory food and then sipping on this sweet beverage is the ultimate combo! I asked the sweet server for a to go cup for the tea. She was kind and gave me a little cup to go. I couldn't leave without taking some with me.
I work right across the street from this joint and I'm so sad that I have lived in the valley this long to have never been to this place. To have this joint as an option for lunch now makes me so happy. I look forward to the plates of butter chicken and cups of Indian Chai tea in my future! Also I'm excited to try other dishes that they offer that I haven't...
Read moreOUTSTANDING! I was unbelievably pleasantly surprised with Bombay Grill. When I have needed an Indian fix in Boise over the years, I have always gone with the "crowd favorite" which wins accolades all the time. And while their food is good, I've always felt like, "THIS is the best that Boise can do?" Well now I know better. Sorry to say it took me so long to go to Bombay Grill, but I'm happy I finally made the call to go there. I have pretty low expectations for a buffet (based on experience), but here the trays were well-tended and the food was uber-tasty. The standout was their Butter Chicken - I could order a bucket of this stuff. Their take on it is as a shredded chicken in sauce - just perfect. The Tikki Masala was excellent as well, and the Mango Chicken (which, based on the size of the serving dish, must be one of their more popular items though it wasn't my personal favorite). The only real miss for me was the Lamb Vindaloo. While I was ecstatic to see this on a buffet as it's my favorite Indian dish ever, this version fell flat and tasted almost more like an Irish lamb stew. Where were all the great flavors like the other dishes? This is a Goan specialty - treat it as such! And it needed WAY (ANY?) more heat than what was there. Vindaloo is supposed to make you sweat. This just made me sigh. The cucumber salad was clearly cut fresh there, not pulled out of a bag. Thank you! I appreciate that! And the raita was excellent. But perhaps the best of all is the fact that they bring you out piping-hot fresh naan that was clearly just made for you. At a buffet? Getouttahere! If you desire authenticity, just think of the last time you went into an Indian place and they had the Indian National Cricket team on the screen playing. What's that? Never? Yeah, me neither. But Bombay had it going on. Is this a high-end fancy place to impress a first date? No, and it's not meant to be. It's a damn solid restaurant with a killer lunch buffet. I will be...
Read moreI had an extraordinary dining experience at Bombay Grill, and I wholeheartedly give it a well-deserved five-star rating. This restaurant holds a special place in my heart as it introduced me to the world of Indian cuisine and solidified it as my absolute favorite.
Located in downtown Boise, the Idanha building houses this hidden gem, which boasts exceptional food and a delightfully quirky ambiance. While the restaurant itself is relatively small, it does have enough space to accommodate a few larger parties. However, I highly recommend making a reservation in advance, as this place tends to fill up quickly, and you wouldn't want to miss out on the opportunity to dine here.
The staff at Bombay Grill is incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring that guests leave with happy hearts and satisfied appetites. Their dedication to delivering the best dining experience is evident in their service. One notable feature of this restaurant is its buffet-style dining, offering a wide variety of delectable dishes. I strongly advise arriving with a hearty appetite to fully savor and enjoy the multitude of flavors they have to offer. Trust me, you'll find yourself loving every single dish, just as I did.
Moreover, the establishment's decor is thoughtfully curated to complement the cuisine it serves, creating a fun and culturally significant atmosphere. Bombay Grill's presence in Boise adds to the city's diversity, and I am truly grateful for the contribution they have made in enriching our culinary landscape.
In conclusion, Bombay Grill is an exceptional dining destination that not only introduces patrons to the wonders of Indian cuisine but also delivers an unforgettable experience.
