Denny's — Restaurant in Indianapolis

We went to eat after my daughter's swim sectionals and had a group of 10. They were great and got us seated together even though we let them know we didn't mind being separated. That is where the good ended. We are not a picky group and we understand 10 people is a lot to accommodate and we weren't in a rush. The waitress was super nice but the manager was awful. My husband ordered a sprite and it was out of syrup he let the waitress know so she went to ask the manager and she told the waitress to just take his drink and add water to it....even the waitress was confused. He switched his drink to a diet coke. The food was okay but with there being 10 people there were some orders wrong. The manager could not handle the situation at all she was trying to help the waitress pass out food and she walked away frustrated. I helped the waitress get the food handed out and figure out what orders were wrong. Only 1 was completely wrong the rest of us just dealt with the little mess ups and ate what we got. The manager then came out to ask how the 1 order that was completely wrong how he wanted his egg on his burger. He requested runny(over easy). Brought out his burger with no egg at all. At this point he just ate it. We had to ask for refills the whole time. Our bill was 192 dollars that needed split in half between 2 parents and the manager was extremely rude handling the bill and splitting it. It took 2 hours from start to finish. We left a 40 dollar tip and I hope every bit went to the waitress and not one dime to that manager. The waitress needs a raise and a promotion and trained to be a manager. Now this wasn't the best Denny's I've ever visited and actually the service was slower than molasses coming out of a tree. Thicker than syrup so slower than a 7 year itch. When she did finally come and get our order everything went A O K after that. We got our food fast and it was hot. Coffee was always filled and she was a very nice person and very outgoing. By the time we were done with our meal I had completely forgotten about the slowness at the beginning. That's a good server who can do that. She started a conversation with us by finding some common ground. I've been a server/bartender for the last 20+ years and in that time I have learned a few things about the job and that server knew she messed up in the beginning and did everything she was supposed to do to make things right. I'm giving this Denny's a 5 start rating in spite of the slowness at the jump. Mainly because the food was fantastic as per usual and the server was top notch when she finally got around to us. I'm sure she got sat like 3 or 4 tables at once and had to go in the order they came in and we were last on that totem pole. Anyway, check this Denny's out and you shan't be disappointed. If for some reason they are a little slow at the beginning just give em a chance and they should give you a very good meal and experience. Truthfully when it comes to sit down restaurants the server controls the whole experience and all the dining criteria. So, who you get to serve you will have a major impact on your experience in that restaurant. Have a great day and hope to see a lot of you at Denny's sometime soon....

Very awesome service as it was the middle of the night & freezing outside & I had forgotten my wallet & when I realized that & was about to leave the waitress wasn't rude at all & even offered to help me out by letting me sit down & drink a water & they had a police officer to keep it safe So as I was sitting & getting warm a plate was brought to me with 2 helpings of sausage chocolate pancakes & hash browns the officer had paid for my meal & I couldn't help breaking down in tears of thankfulness Today we often have bad situations & individuals who choose to treat us badly & for me I really need to make a continuous choice to remember those who have gone out of their way to be awesome to me & I think to myself while writing this "did these two even go out of their way or is it just who they actually are" either way I Jade Ford thank them & you the reader ! This isn't the first time I've received great service here it's really a great place with great people who serve great food in a clean restaurant & remember if you go to a restaurant like Denny's late at night they are staffed for late night crowds -meaning- they are able to do this based on average crowds for their locations So please be aware of that when you eat late at night They serve food that's great yet that requires a little extra time Thank You so...
