I’ve been to Giordano’s in Indianapolis twice now, and both visits offered solid food, though the experiences varied a bit.
On my first visit, I came in for lunch and was seated quickly. Service was prompt and friendly, and my Chicken Parmesan sandwich was quite good definitely something I’d recommend. My friend ordered a personal deep-dish pizza, which he really enjoyed. While I know their Chicago-style deep dish is the main draw for most people, it’s never been my personal favorite, but I still appreciated the quality.
The second visit followed a similar start we were seated quickly and placed our order without a wait. We got a bacon and pepperoni deep dish to share and a personal cheese deep dish. The food was again very good; even as someone who isn’t a die-hard deep-dish fan, I found it enjoyable. That said, the bacon added a bit too much saltiness for my taste but is my friends favorite combo.
Where this visit fell short was the service. After taking our order, our server was mostly absent it was difficult to get drink refills, and we had a long wait just to get the check. To be fair, the restaurant got much busier shortly after we ordered, but the drop in attentiveness was noticeable.
One major downside was the condition of the bathroom it needed a cleaning and gave the impression that upkeep isn’t as consistent as it should be.
All in all, Giordano’s delivers when it comes to food, especially if you're a fan of hearty, cheesy deep-dish pizza. But service and cleanliness could use more consistency. I’d go back, but probably during...
Read moreI am not from the area but driving by, the kids wanted the Chicago style deep dish pizza, like the one we ordered last time. Two year ago, we ordered the same pizza from the same location and it was great. Not as good as the Chicago pizza but it was the best next thing. It was deep and loaded with all items, as you'd expect. It was thick two layers separated by a layer of pizza dough. The sauce was flavorfull and delicious all around. You would have to work at finishing a slice. This time, we ordered 4 pizzas, all make your own type. The main medium one ended up costing over $34 for 6 toppings, two in $16 range for small two topings, and $10+ for a single topping personal pizza. For a Chicago style deep dish, I expected to pay extra - not an issue. My disappointment was how little the toppings were. Byte after bite, I am looking for the toppings I ordered and there were so few and far in between, scattered all over and lost in the area. I had to pull the receipt and double check I ordered the toppings I wanted and of course they were listed and charged. Oh, there was a lot of cheese. Had I known how skimpy they were going to be with the toppings, I would have ordered the basic cheese pizza and hopefully I would not be disappointed! As I said above, I am not from the area, just passing by. I got the order and traveled with it back home, 2 hours away. It was our desired dinner. Had I been from the area, I would have taken it back or agreed on some resolution. Now, that this has happened, no more ordering from...
Read more– I absolutely love Chicago food, with Chicago style deep dish pizza being a fav of mine… you can’t really get it on the East Coast, so when I visit places where there’s a Lou Malnati’s, I get it! So, when in Indy and seeing there was a Giodano’s I wanted to try it to see how it compared to Lou Malnati’s. I previously only tried Giodano’s in ORD and didn’t think the airport version was the right way to try it, so I came here to see what the actual, handmade restaurant was like.
Service was very slow, I had to wait a long time before my server came to the table to greet me, once she did, she was very friendly. Also, if you order a pizza, it take about 45 minutes to make, which I understand. I tried a small pepperoni with jalapeños and asked for extra tomato sauce.
It did take about 45 minutes to show up at the table and, as you would imagine, it was piping hot. I dug right in, and the “umami” I crave in the Lou Malnati’s sauce and crust was totally lacking – which was my first impression. I took a few more bites and loved the thickness and stringiness of the cheese. The bottom crust was good, but the side crust was thick and flavorless.
I ate only 3 slices there and took the rest to go. I actually put it in the hotel room’s fridge and then flew home with it the next morning to share with my son, who also love Lou Malnati’s. He enjoyed this pizza, but I feel that’s because he’s been craving Lou’s so much lately… so have it!
Would I return to a Giordano’s? Nope… I’ll...
