What a disappointment at what had been one of our favorite restaurants in Indy. We used to eat there regularly before moving about an hour away. We were in town on 11/29/23 and decided to stop for supper about 6:30 pm. Our server took our order and repeated everything back to us - gyosa and sushi pizza appetizers, general tso bento box and a crunchy bomb roll for entrees. There was a fair number of table customers, plus a constant flow of carry out pickups, with only one server working the tables. We had to wait an unusually long time for drinks and to have our order taken, because the single server was also constantly shuttling carry out food to the front desk. The server brought our gyosa, then a few minutes later brought crab Rangoon, which we said was not ours, and she took to another table. The soup and salad with the bento box was brought, which was fine. Then the bento box came, but no crunch bomb for my husband. Meanwhile, the carry out flow was constant. We waited another 20 minutes, with the server running constantly between tables and carry out and two people making sushi like crazy. Finally, my husband said let’s just go, who knows how many more carry out orders there are before we get our crunch bomb. Before we could ask for our check, the server brought it and moved on. The crunch bomb was not even on our tab, although the server had repeated it back to us when we ordered. While the food that we did get was excellent, we were very disappointed with the service. It was obvious that the carry out sushi was their main commitment, with little attention to table customers. We’ll miss our now-occasional visits to Hana when we visit Indy, but excellent food is not worth being treated as...
Read moreBar-none the best hibachi (and Japanese food in general) I've had in Bloomington or Indy and the best service of ANY restaurant I've been to in either city. No exaggeration on either count. Menu is reasonably priced and varied, with everything from standard hibachi fare (steak, shrimp, chicken, etc.) to "fusion" stuff like curry and general's chicken. The waiter was charming, polite, and super helpful, especially with our kids: He stopped to chat with our son a few times and even encouraged him to run and goof around in the restaurant at one point when we were the only people in there.
Seriously cannot say enough good about this place. I came in expecting a full-blown hibachi with a grill at every table and almost left when I saw their one grill was at the back (with chairs so you can sit and watch) - VERY happy we didn't. Our new favorite restaurant in town, both for the quality/price of the food and the excellent staff.
edit: Should also note the atmosphere - I never really pay attention to that, but I couldn't help but notice it here. Great music selection, lighting, and table placement. Overall it had the food/service/atmosphere of a high-end place but was far more reasonably priced than some of the locations we've visited...
Read more5/5. My wife and I have been coming to this restaurant for years and always leave satisfied. We've since moved out-of-state but every time we visit Indy we always make it apart of trip to eat at this restaurant. Their food is top-notch. Our go-to items are the Shiso Pearl (which we have not found anything similar anywhere else across the country) and the Pink Lady Roll. Though everything else we've tried on their menu has been great as well. Service has also been fast and friendly here. You might even meet the owners. This is a small business owned by locals who have clearly put in dedication into their work. They are also some of the nicest, humble people we have met. I can see how they survived the pandemic when many restaurants closed. Good thing they have kept the same quality pre-pandemic. If you're looking for good sushi or other asian cuisine then I would highly...
