This location has lost yet another customer. I should actually state, several customers and a lot of money. My husband went in today to do some price comparison on a few items and make a few purchases due to the fact that we just purchased a new home that needs quite a bit of work done. Almost immediately, he noticed he was being followed by a supposed security person who apparently wasn't very discreet. At first my husband wasn't bothered by it since he was legitimately shopping around. I need mention that my husband does drywall work and is very obviously the type of person you would see in a hardware store. The "security" person continued to follow him throughout. Once finished gathering the few items he needed, he proceeded to check out where he was asked to show his ID prior to making his purchase. When he questioned why he would need to show his ID, the employees became rather rude and expressed that it's company policy. I have been shopping and spending money in their stores for many years and have never been asked to show my ID to make a purchase. He asked to speak to a manager. The "manager" was an assistant manager and happened to the one following him. After a total run around and conversation full of excuses, while he continued to make his purchase, he proceeded to ask for corporate information. They aren't well versed in that either. On his way out, he returned the items that he had just purchased and went to a different store altogether. After getting the story, I decide to call and spoke with another supposed manager, Albert, who stated that he was present during the incident that it was in fact a GM who handled the situation. That was not the case and if it was, Menards to seriously look at the people they are hiring and putting into those roles to handle their stores. Albert explained that my husband was asked for his ID because he matched the description of a person with whom they've had an issue recently. That was never stated to my husband. He was treated very poorly and more than offended, as am I. Menards on S. Emerson, your management, staff training/ skills and customer service skills need desperate attention. My thousands of dollars for my new home renovation will be spent elsewhere and the hundreds of dollars in merchandise that I just purchased this past weekend will now be returned to your store. Thank you for costing us...

The products at Menards are pricey and they do not work at all. I felt like I was purchasing expensive trash because the chairs we bought and spent $500 on broke right after we sat in them. I only weigh 150 pounds. The gasoline powered chainsaw my boyfriend paid $170 for would not even run. He spend a total of 2 1/2 hours trying to get the chairs and table together because of the poor design. The screws are not real metal. They are cheap and they bend. The holes do not line up. The chainsaw we tried to return - they would not take it back because we put gas and oil in it. You have to put gas in it to see if it is going to run so of course no one can ever return a chainsaw if they have tried to use it.
The staff must know the quality of their products is inferior because they work there and I bet they see a lot of people who try to return items, but they still helped us purchase trash. The people who purchase the products make poor decisions in their buying by purchasing these items in the first place and offering inferior pieces of trash to consumers.
We don't get a lot of time off work to spend putting these products together, so this was one big waste of a day thanks to Menards.
A suggestion for Menard's upper management is that they really need to try to build a patio set at one of their corporate meetings before they offer it to the consumer. Sincerely,
-A frustrated customer
4/20/2014 So we went back and bought #6 bolts to replace the #2 bolts the patio set came with and now the chairs are working fine. The store personnel...
Read moreYesterday, I went to this store looking for something pretty typical that their website listed as âin stock.â Now, this store has been here all my life and I used to consider it a reliable place to find things no other hardware store sold and for decent prices. Today, they are a cheap-goods panderland that sells one of everything most people want, as cheaply made as it comes, and very little outside of that description. The store is redneck hoarder heaven and is horribly organized, and offers little in the way of tools or specialized equipment other than the bare basics. After about 10-15 minutes of wandering aimlessly trying to sort through their awful store layout and product placement system, I decided I wanted to finally do a review on them. From that moment, as I made laps around the store and peeked into every nook and cranny and even went upstairs looking for what I was painstakingly trying to find, I decided to keep count of every single employee that clearly noticed me and was unoccupied enough to offer help, but didnât. I counted 8. Eight unoccupied employees passed close to me and noticed me and didnât greet me or ask if I needed help. However, a fellow customer stopped me and asked ME if I had seen any employees nearby because they also couldnât find any help. Finally, I found what I was looking for after nearly 40 minutes in the store. It was overpriced and I got it cheaper, at a higher quantity, from a better brand, at Home Depot, where I found the product within 5 minutes of entering because it was placed sensibly and the store is so much more...
