NICKY BLAINE'S, I wrote a google review a few years ago now, but it is somehow has been miraculously removed. I think my experience is worth being on record.
I wandered in after a Pacers game on a Friday night - paid a cover charge which is more than fine. I approached the bar and ordered a Coors - after tax is was roughly 6 dollars and some change. I paid cash, gave the bartender 8 dollars (in singles). so, a dollar and change for a tip for one bottled beer - pretty standard, right? My friend I was with, found a couple of seats at the bar. Mind you, it was slow for a Friday night. The bartender purposely ignores my friend, who was waiting a good 20-25 minutes.
After finally gaining the bartenders attention, my friend politely asked, if he could order a cocktail and a couple of cigars. The bartender, could not be more condensing if he tried, had to acknowledge us - didn't seem interested - only to say the following, "if I take your order, are you going to tip more than your buddy, here?" I was just taken aback because I am 1000% sure I had 8 dollars in my wallet, as it was counted out more than once. I told him, adamantly, that he was tipped for the beer he opened for me. He immediately got very confrontational with me - saying I didn't tip him. Even if he didn't take the time to count it out, how petty can you be? I didn't want to make a big deal out of it, but he then out of nowhere asked if I wanted to step outside to fight him... I am not a confrontational person either. Like I was shocked. My friend then politely asked if there was a manager available. The bartender said, "I am the manager".
He continued to insinuate that he wanted to fight me. My friend and I immediately left in disappointment. Thankfully, the doorman was understanding and gave us our cover charge back.
Mind you, we were planning on opening a tab, and we would have appropriately tipped on a serviced bill. It's just an utter disgrace this seemed like normal behavior at Nicky Blaine's. Never in my life would I have imagined being...
Read moreI've always been a big fan of Nicky's, but our last experience came in under my typical experience. My husband and I arrived at 9pm on Saturday night (May 1st) he was looking forward to the cigars and I was excited for one of my Black Martinis. The door man was friendly and great as always, and the hostess was prompt and sat us quickly and provided us with water. We waited..... and waited..... watching as tables around us were served. 2 other sets of people walked in and were seated and had a server promptly take their orders and even got their drinks. After 15 minutes (that was after we started watching the time) a server from one of the other tables asked "Has Carrie taken care of you?" We were clueless as to who this Carrie was? As no server had ever made her presence be known to us. This was truly the first time I've ever had an experience like this. When we said no one had come by with the exception of the water that the hostess provided the server from the other section said she would take our order. As much as we appreciated the offer we declined and left. We really do enjoy the food, drinks and great selection of cigars and often spend a few hours enjoying all of said products when we visit. I won't let 1 bad experience cancel future trips however I am disappointed that a place I have been going to for 15+ years had such an unfortunate experience. We look forward to trying other cigar lounges in and around the city. I am a faithful patron to locations that I enjoy and I hope when we visit in the future the service returns to the quality and standards that...
Read moreI would give a negative zero if I could . I can't believe how myself and my friend was treated last Sat night. I had been there once a couple years ago an had a great time with a younger aged group. I remembered the time an I had been telling my older friends that it was such a great spot. Smh no room fro all the details but after the host choose the area for us to sit and after 45m of no service in a empty lounge , we received water only and then when I flagged down someone an asked for a cigar an drinks , she had the nerve to waste her time an energy to come back to me an my friend and say some body told her we demanded to sit in the spot we were in. I couldn't even say anything. I do believe my friend and I were judged for me being younger an him older. I just told her that as far as customer service I can't believe you came over here to deliver that kind of message to us. And then we left . The door man was awesome tho. We tipped him on out way in an he was pleasant even before that. This replaced what used to be a great memory of this place with such a bad memory for me and for my friends first time experience. Neither one of us...
