Just had one of the worst experiences at Mulligans Irish Pub & Grill , Belden village location in Canton Oh.
We made reservations for What was supposed to be a lovely Mothers day dinner with a party of 14. Instead, I'm leaving so disappointed !! Two major things I'd like to point out in the many of events for today are:
We all order our food. Two people in our party ordered flat iron steaks. About 7-10 mins before everyone's food arrive... We are told by our server that they've RAN OUT of steaks. We asked to speak to a manager (Joanna Swallen) in regards to this . Joanna then sends the server back to our table stating "there was Nothing she could do about it. We then ask our server to please ask the manager to come out and speak to us herself ( as ANY manager should do when a customer is dissatisfied and asking for them) Joanna finally comes to our table. We tell Joanna we were not notified about the steaks running out & everyone else's food is about to come out. We asked Is there anything else we could be accommodated for ? Like a another type of steak at a cheaper rate per say ?? Dessert? Anything ? Joanna replied RUDELY " well I dont order my steaks at that price " with her hands placed behind her hips (that she blamed on a back injury) and did not one time try to accommodate the party for THEIR lack of inventory.
A wire.. Yes, A freaking wire of some sort was found in my one of the childrens french fries.. A FREAKING WIRE ! We immediately grab whomever was close by to get the owner/manager. At this point, the owners husband (unknown name) was in the area & proceeded to ignore our request as he broke down tables. The server we asked to grab a manager, notified us IN FRONT of the husband that he has told him we needed to speak to a manager. A member from our party had to physically leave our table to hunt down a manager & advised him of their that was foundin the french fries. This was just unacceptable !
Thank God our bills were adjusted properly after everything we went through on today. It would've been nice for the owners/management team to come to our table and apologize. Had I looked at some of the reviews prior to going .. I would've suggested my family made reservations elsewhere .
The management lacks customer service skills, the food was not good, and our food took forever to come out. I sent my food back as it arrived cold, the salmon specifically.
our server was amazing, and apologized for the events many of times. This has nothing to do with her, but EVERYTHING to do with management!!!
SN: Do not try to come for me about todays experience, I said what I said, you can/will be no blocked.
*Update: Per the response via the owner, the owner has yet to take any responsibility for their actions as seen. I seriously have no reason to LIE about what took place. To be honest, Ive left out Several things that went wrong on that day. The things stated by the owner are flat out lies and I refuse to go back & forth about it. My Mom never shook hands nor apologized, because there was NOTHING for us to apologize for. Per their response, its clear the owner would like to pull the "victimized" card, and not accept/or take responsibility for the errors on that day & make adjustments accordingly to have a successful business with great customer service. I'm am DONE here & will NEVER suggest this business...
Read moreThis restaurant used to be a lunch favorite of my wife and I. When we heard they re-opened under new management we were excited about some hearty good food!
We went there for dinner on a Monday while the kids were at a movie. The awful smell that hit us in the foyer should have been our warning to leave. First, Mulligan's was a little pricey before...under the new management the prices are darn right out of all sense and reason.
We ordered the fried mushrooms as an appetizer ($8.99). What came can only be described as gargantuan. I can only assume these mushrooms were grown near the Fukishima reactor in Japan. In this case more is not better. The mushrooms were so huge and unwieldly that there was no way for the moisture to cook out. When I cut into one you had a nice cooked and crispy mushroom on the outside. The center was raw and water pooled inside the breading. We split a single mushroom and could go no further.
My wife ordered the chicken/ribs bbq combo ($19.99, yes you read that right). They were out of all vegetable sides except brussell sprouts, which my wife does not like so she was stuck with two sides of mashed potatoes and gravy. The chicken was somewhat dry but the ribs were chewy and almost inedible. She spent the rest of the meal trying to scrape the gravy off the obviously not fresh mashed potatoes.
I ordered the Guinness beer battered cod ($17.99). I am not exaggerating in any way when I tell you that the $18 entree was served with a single piece of cod, just slightly larger than the Gorton's frozen cod pieces I buy in a box from the grocery store. The breading was nice and crispy, unfortunately the fish did not taste fresh and like the mushrooms was sitting in a pool of water making the bottom half of the cod a soggy disgusting mess.
The brussell sprouts that came with it were a ramekin of what could best be described as shredded brussell sprouts. There wasn't a whole one in there anywhere...just a slaw like concoction of sprouts, burned garlic, and salt. It was inedible.
Of the whole meal there were only 2 appetizing items. The first was the coleslaw, which I doubt was made there. The second was the bread stick that came with the slaw which again, was probably bought frozen and reheated (which is a good thing in this case.)
In short, this was the worst dining experience I can think of in the past 20 years. We had two entrees, an appetizer, and two drinks. Our bill was $80, and of course I left a 20% tip on top of that because it wasn't the waitresses fault the food was horrible. We took all the food with us that we couldn't eat out of embarrassment for the waitress. They went in the trash as soon as we got home.
If I had to guess, the new owners started out with good food and good intentions, and now are just cutting corners in desperation of the impending second closure of this restaurant.
Avoid this place like the plague. My kids got hot dogs and popcorn at the movie that night, and I would gladly have taken that dinner over the one I paid $96 for and...
Read moreHad a decent experience with the waitress and food was expensive but okay. We went with 10 other family members to celebrate a new home purchase. My grandmother mother in-law was gifted a $50 gift card for Christmas to here from an uncle of mine who was also attending dinner.
Upon paying our bills the waitress informed is that the card had a zero balance. She brought over the owner who spoke with my uncle. "She stated there is no balance on the card so I cannot prove you have not already been here and used it. There is nothing I can do." We were all kind of shocked. There was no apology, no consideration just shifted the blame to lie family like we went out of our way to bring 10 people there to short the business $50 from a gift card. We had the original receipt which showed the purchase, the date, and amount loaded. I'm not sure if it was a system issue or someone wrote down the card number and used it after the purchase at the bar.
Regardless, it was not used as we rarely go to Mulligan's but wanted to try it again under the new ownership. It was not until the very end of the conversation that she reluctantly finally did the right thing anymore comped The meals for the gift card for 2 out of the 10 people. She proceeded to guilt trip us about it by staying she can't afford to give everyone free money. Well, neither can we. We would obviously have preferred not to have been shorted $50 from a gift card. Then said we were going to give her a bad review anyways so why comp the gift card. This is beyond me as you can think this in your head but this is not something you inform a large group of guests.
Now that ordeal aside, the waitress was friendly and nice and continued to bring drinks and check up on us. That was the bright spot of the place. I do not go out of my way to critique places with a one star even if the food is bad I typically just don't review the establishment. This is the exception to that rule. If the situation was approached professionally by the owner there would have never been an issue. The tone was set as soon as she approached our table after speaking with our uncle. All it would have taken was an apology.
Update: 1/31/19 - The server was still tipped by everyone but that particular couple. I'll be back to give you the $9. You set the tone of the entire table by stating we must have spent the $50 gift card and you could not prove we did so the grandparents meals were due. Honestly, I cannot think if ever being approached by an owner with such disregard for the customers. You do realize that your self appointed justifications and mood were what made everyone just stop in disbelief. We were not berating you in any manner. You would have questions too if the gift card you received for Christmas was now at a zero balance at the restaurant you were eating at. It was your system or systems that were the cause of this so as a customer you of course were going to hold the establishment accountable for that. Literally my only 1 start rating ever,...
