Old Carolina Barbecue Company — Restaurant in Jackson Township

I used to absolutely LOVE this place pre 2020, but sadly, no more. After my last visit, I’m sorry to say that it will be my final one. In the past, their food has always been delicious, fresh, and hot; their employees were always “above and beyond” welcoming, accommodating, and friendly; and the environment was always clean and well kept. These qualities are a thing of the past, never to return, I fear. Once during 2020 an employee was rudely and sternly chastising me and another customer to keep our masks pulled up (but not until after they received my money.🙄) while one of their kitchen employees was LITERALLY crouching in the kitchen doorway on his phone, without a mask. Looked REAL sanitary. They seemed super concerned about what I was doing, yet they weren’t concerned about what their own employees were doing. Weird.😑 The person who took my order recently could not have been less interested. It took almost 20 minutes to receive my order and there were only 2 people ahead of me and 4 customers in the whole place. I noticed that after I received my order, the two people that were in front of me were still waiting on their to go order. My food was almost $20 with the tip. The condiments bar and drink station were FILTHY, sticky, empty, and swarming with gnats. The quality of the food has gone downhill. My pulled pork was dry and the portions were smaller than on previous visits. The dining room needed attention, as well. The only positive thing I can add is that the music was really good on my most recent visit. I think it’s safe to say that I will never return to Old Carolina, which kind of makes me sad. This used to be a top notch restaurant, but no more. I see by the reviews on here that many others are in agreement. I don’t know how much longer this establishment can survive under these current circumstances. There are plenty of other restaurant options in Canton where I will spend my money...

I stepped up to the counter to place an order. I asked the girl behind the counter for an explanation of the upcharge for side dishes. She said that if the meal came with a side dish that it did not matter it came with the dinner but then proceeded to up charges for premium side items. I got a bill for over $30 for 2 meals when we knew it should have been under $28. When we asked about the total she snapped at us and said that the drinks were $3 a piece and the sides were a three-dollar each. She canceled the order and we put the order in with regular sides. I paid the bill and as I walked away we heard her say all that over a couple of bucks with the rest of the employees standing and laughing. We sat down and ate our meal and I noticed that the girl keep walking out from behind the counter staring at us and then walking back behind the counter I'm sure she was making faces behind our backs. In her Haste to take our order she didn't even get the order right. I ordered the chopped brisket not the pulled pork but there was two pulled pork dinners in front of us. I asked to speak to the manager after we completed our meals. They gave me somebody who took barely older than the girl that was so rude with us. All he could say that when he was sorry and it wouldn't happen again to whatever I said. I told him we had I have old Caroline in Akron where I live and I will never be back to this one again.And again he half heartedly apologized. If you like teenagers being rude with you you'll love this place. I guess it's pretty hard to get decent employees these days I guess this proves it. Unless you like being mocked by the staff l don't think I would waste...

This is a sad day as I will never return ever again which puts me at fewer restaurants I can eat at due to my allergies. I order the same thing multiple times a week, the normal staff I see is utterly amazing they know my order by heart, or if I stop in they don’t even have to ask what I want they just start cooking it. They are amazing the staff I saw today hard pass, they were so unbelievably rude. Not only did the lady scoop out a handful of my fries to a napkin that she started eating ( yes right in front of me ) when I asked for the bbq sauce she told me I can fill it myself. When I noticed there wasn’t enough cranberry’s on my salad I asked for more in just a cup that I could add on and was told I’m not helping food cost. ( and how that should be extra ) mind you that’s fine if I have to pay more for the salad that I ORDERED that way then it should have been done. Absolutely disgusted with this store and then when I get home realized they put blue cheese dressing for my salad and I ordered Italian. NEVER and I mean NEVER will I come back. You should learn who to promote and who not to I will happily tell you who you should ! Also the new GM that they are so willing to bad mouth saying that this is what they are instructed to do. Well safe to say you will be closing your doors soon because no one and I mean no one will put up with that maybe if your loosing out on money and certain hours aren’t profitable maybe you should...
