TLDR: Great service met with food terrorism??? A lock of hair in my fettuccine from a cook I had an encounter with.
My first time at Carabas and I'm really excited because I've heard such good things about it from friends and family. I'm enjoying a nice Sunday evening with my sister wh is visiting and we just come from Jacksonville Beach looking for a bite before we head home. There is no hostess when we enter but we don't fret because it seems to have been a busy day for the staff. We've still got over an hour until closing so I tell my sister that I'm gonna go to the restroom since we haven't been seated yet. As I'm walking to the restroom I'm stopped by a staff member asking if I'm dining in. "Yes!" I respond. "What is your table number?" She asks in a condensing tone. It's clear she doesn't believe me, so I tell her my sister is waiting for a hostess at the front and we'll be dining in for two and continue to the restroom. When I come back I meet my sister at the table and we're greeted by our amazing server who is so warm and friendly. We order wine and food and the night is off to a great start. We had an amazing appetizing dish and I enjoyed a great Cesar salad. I order the Fettuccine Weesie and when it comes out I find an actual lock of hair in my food. I'm a little hesitant thinking maybe it's a food byproduct but as I fork around my pasta I find more and more hair. It's as if someone has cut a small lock of the ends of their hair off and sprinkled it in my food. I take a look at the cook who can be seen through the open kitchen and funny enough, it's the same lady who stopped me before, now preparing dishes! Had I done something to offend her on my way to the restroom? I'm not sure. It's really appalling being treated this by such in such an esteemed restaurant.
I send the food back after fishing out at least six strands of hair from my pasta. Such good food, down the drain. What a waste and what a shame. The manager tells me they think it's the bristles from one of the cleaning brushes they use for the ovens, but I know what hair looks like and that was hair! Bristles by definition are short and stiff. These where limp and stringy strands of dark colored hair. The same as the female cook who prepared my meal. They comp the meal and I don't ask for another, just a side and additional glass of wine. We tip our server (who was great btw) and leave after my sister finishes her food.
I've worked in food service and I've worked in customer service for over 10 years. I've never known bristels from brushes to be in food. Have you? One thing I have learned from service work is that when people have terrible experiences at places they usually choose not to mention it and just simply never show back up again. I contemplated doing that since other than me not being able to eat we, didn't let it ruin our night. I'm actually saddened that this happened. I don't believe it was an accident and dare I say, I'm afraid it was some kind of discrimination. Regardless of the fact, I will not be returning to this location, ever. That's all I have to say and thank you for...
Read moreDisclaimer: Carrabba's is a long-standing family tradition of ours, and I've been obsessed with their food for 20+ years. I know it's a chain, but it holds so many great memories from family celebrations over the years. I've never had a bad experience.
My partner and I needed a date night, and were so excited to get out of our neighborhood for a change. Decided to go 30 min. out of our way to this location. Unfortunately, the bread and our Chicken Bryan (just the chicken) were the only on-par parts of the entire dinner.
The Sauce Trio came in 3 small ramekins on a side plate, that were each the size of a side of ketchup. The 'alfredo' was literally milk with melted butter in it (they forgot the cheese?) - it had the consistency of water, and it was also cold. Same with the tomato cream.
My house salad was mostly brown-tinged, wilted lettuce. My partner's Prosecco was warm and flat. We had to confirm 4x that we wanted more bread. The broccoli with my chicken was bland, soggy, lukewarm and looked like the bag of frozen veggies I heat up in the microwave at home on occasion.
Our server was sweet, but unable to get us our food on time (entrees came out within a couple min of salads) or refills, and asked us twice if we wanted him to remove the sauce trio from the bill....I said yes, I would really appreciate it, because we can't eat it...I poured out a little butter milk onto the plate and he said "oh wow yeah....it's not supposed to do that."
I'm not mad - honestly, the entire experience was humorous and we got a lot of laughs. I worked in the industry for years; every restaurant has an off night - but it was less than half full last night, so I couldn't blame this on them being too busy. The only part that wasn't funny was the $100+ we dropped on a very lackluster meal - wish we'd spent that money on a local place...
Read more1st time here @ this Carrabba's Italian Grill. We enjoy our Happy Hour Apps when we go to most places. Now that everyone's able to @ bar and in bar area seating. Which we are glad about that. There was a time ago when the bar was just that, the bar. No booths nor tables to be seated at. But we thank God we can enjoy the discounted prices. So now that I've arrived at the price... Happy Hour prices were marked at $8. However, we opted to get the full menu appetizer, Tomato Caprese Burrata, and the Calamari. The Caprese was $11.29, and the Calamari was $15.29. We also had the Canoli Cake for 2, by the way. It was $15.29, which was good. Now, back to the appetizers, which were @ $8 half size, and you get 3 bite-sized breads and toppings vs. 6 pieces at the listed full price. Now, as for the Calamari, you spend a dollar more for full portion, and it's not premium, but ok. Frank ordered that. It's better anytime you squeeze lemon alllll over it, and in this case, for those who like lemon on seafood, it's better. If there were a next time, I'd prefer the Happy Hour half portion @ the $8 price point vs. $15.29 price point. We didn’t order anything more because we just weren't going to be able to eat two full meals without having to have it packed up. We were satisfied with that and ate dessert. Next time, we would order meals and NO appetizers there. However, the cake is a different storyline. Over and Out FranknKimm February...
