We recently gave Cantina La Martina a try after the switchover from Herman’s at the Haus. We had high hopes, given that we often come to Human Robot for dinner and drinks, even though we don’t live nearby. Unfortunately, our meal was pretty disappointing. The ordering system is a strict downgrade from the QR menu that Herman’s previously used. We always sit at the bar, so we were initially a bit confused about how to order since the bartender handed us menus, but they weren’t responsible for taking our order. We went on to get the guacamole and chips, and two burrito bowls. The guacamole, while fresh, had zero salt or seasoning that we could detect. We had to ask the waitress for a salt shaker, which I almost never do at a restaurant. Then came our burrito bowls, which were equally bland and poorly presented. Considering the high price point of the food, I would have hoped for a nicer presentation (instead of the white plastic bowls we were given) and much punchier flavors. One thing we did enjoy was the very spicy habanero sauce, which helped salvage the meal a bit. Overall, Cantina missed several marks on what would have made them a comparable replacement to Herman’s. Hopefully they take some of the constructive feedback in their reviews and work on refining their...
Read moreCame for Father’s Day with a 1pm reservation. Had been here once prior and really loved it, hoping to share the experience with our kids: great nachos and birria tacos! But today was a disaster. By 1:30 we still hadn’t seen a server, placed order by 1:40. Had no issues getting drinks from the Human Robot side but by 2pm I needed to flag down the waiter again to get her mango fresca. At 230 we demanded to know where our nachos were, having seen other tables getting food. They came within a few minutes minus the chicken we ordered. We did finally get checked on by our server without flagging him down at 245 and we said nachos were good, just waiting now for tacos/entrees. At this point it all became clear, our waiter never put it in our food. They comped the nachos and the bar (Human Robot) comped my wife’s margarita but we needed to go having wasted near 3.5 hours of my Fathers Day (we drove 40 minutes to get here, again feeling it was worth it from first experience) Such a shame, i can’t go back. I get being busy but the pure negligence to check on an order and then realizing the order was never put in with zero communication to the table...
Read moreHuman Robot is great and Herman’s was efficiently run… this? Not so much.
First, I waited 30 minutes for someone to take my order, which only happened because the table next to me got up and complained and mentioned how long they had been waiting. The server came to take our order, then we paid right then and there and never saw the server again. So it’s like Herman’s but less efficiently run. Why is there table service? Just stick with the QR codes. There wasn’t even an option to tip, which sucks for the staff, who now have to do more work for less pay.
When I got my food, I was a little shocked. My burrito bowl was incredibly bland. The elote was alright, nothing to write home about. The nachos were better, but our vegan chorizo had a piece of chicken in it. Not something I enjoyed as a vegetarian.
I will see if this improves over time, as I enjoy going to Human Robot and will definitely return. I will update this review with more information...
