This ain't it.
I wasn’t feeling this restaurant at a all. And I definitely had high hopes because of the reviews as well as the one recommendation I received from a patron. Being new to Jersey city I really wanted to like this place but it was just an awful experience from start to finish.
Host/Service - For one, when we arrived the hostess insisted that we never made a reservation despite us just getting off the phone with her. Come to find out they put our reservation under a different name. I could understand things like this happen but it didn’t seem like she was eager to resolve the issue and made us feel as if we were unwelcome. The hostess didn’t even apologize, once she found our reservation which they admitted they put under the wrong name she just said “follow me”. When people are patronizing your restaurant it is a priority that you make their presence feel welcomed because at the end of the day they could of really went anywhere, nonetheless they chose your establishment. And although it may not physically be hers, you could at least treat it as if it is; because Im sure the amount of clientele definitely effects her wages so the least you can do be bit apologetic and put on smile while dealing with guest.
Atmosphere/Ambience - The dining area was poorly lit creating a very dull and dim setting. I’ve been to low lit upscale restaurants but it might as well had been pitch black. Low lit dining areas are common at steakhouses but this was a bit much. Most steakhouses I would describe as low lit rather than poorly lit. You could barely see the food in front of you. it gave basement vibes.
Drinks/Appetizers- The bread was hard as a rock. I was beginning to think it was stale, my butter knife could barely cut thru it. The drinks and appetizers weren’t anything to run home about. The calamari was gummy & bland. I’ve also had way better tuna tartar. The old fashion could of been better but it wasn’t horrible, somewhat decent nonetheless.
Entrees/Accommodations - Now when it came to the table service, the waiters weren’t rude at all. I can see they were trying their best and I still tipped. But they didn’t speak good English and were inexperienced and not very charismatic. I don’t really blame them I think they were very much aware that they weren’t qualified to answer some of the concerns & questions patron’s may have regarding the menu. I asked about the wagyu burger and they couldn’t provide any specifics other than saying it was good. When I had asked about it he just automatically wrote it down as if that’s what I was ordering. Usually steakhouses have experienced staff that can provide more detail about their menu items and are knowledgeable about other meal accommodations. The guy didn’t even know what a Merlot was, like I said not rude just inexperienced, not really interactive creating an unreliable experience. Now when it comes down to the steak this really isn’t my first rodeo, I’ve been to many steakhouses across the US. That Ribeye they offer on their menu isn’t Dry-Aged. Not even close it wasn’t cooked the way I requested. I had requested Medium Rare and was given Rare. And the outside didn’t even have a nice sear it was just burnt.
Conclusions - The only thing I can say I really enjoyed was the IPA & the old fashion(kinda). It has been my drink of choice for the last 5 years and I know I could judge it accordingly. I clearly knew by the interaction that it wasn’t going to be well was when I order he didn’t ask me would I prefer Rye or Bourbon. Like I said it was a decent cocktail but not for that price. I really really wanted to like this place; it seemed really cool from the outside but it’s a no for me. I wouldn’t recommend. Next time I want a steak I’ll just sear a New York Strip at home or...
Read moreMy wife and I couldn’t decide on a steakhouse to go to in Jersey City. I turned to Reddit and everyone highly suggested to go to Edwards. We booked our dinner easily. Here is our experience:
Atmosphere- its low lighting, but enough to see the menu and enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant. The pictures match the lighting.
Service - the staff was very friendly and quick with any requests. Drinks were delivered fast, extra napkins, removing plates after we finished eating. Also, they were all very pleasant.
Food - Wow. I really enjoyed everything we got, especially the steak burger! I have a picture of it added tor reference, the picture may not do the appeal of the burger justice but the burger itself I would order again, heck even two next time as my main meal! The steak burger was amazing soft and juicy with every bite. The mushroom and one other sauce exploded with flavor! I highly recommend this burger. It’s under the appetizer section.
Main meal - I got the Dry Aged Kansas City 20oz steak. It was perfectly charred around the whole steak, not over done, topped with shoe string onions, and a side of garlic butter and steak sauce. The garlic butter is fantastic and I smeared it all over my steak to capture with every bite. And the steak sauce nailed it. I did get my steak medium-well. In hindsight, I think medium would have been perfect. Honestly, the steak had beautiful flavor every bite that I moaned (yes, my wife told me to shut up multiple times…I did not comply). I will mention that the steak was very juicy. At one point the plate was so filled, I thought I accidentally spilled my drink on the plate. Beyond that, amazing steak cooked with love and perfection.
My wife got the seared tuna….Holy $&%# THAT WAS AMAZINGLY FLAVORED! Every bite was perfect! In addition to my steak, I ate half of her tuna too. (Just to note, my wife only eats half her plate and gives the rest to me, this is how we are). The presentation of the flower on top and the bed of rice, which perfectly paired with each bite of tuna. I would highly recommend this dish. When we go back, I’ll be ordering the tuna dish.
We did get two sides - shoestring onions and garlic mashed potatoes. The shoestring onions was A LOT. With all the food we ordered, we barley ate 1/4 of it. For two people, it’s a lot, but go with 3-4 people, then it’s well worth it as table shared side dish. The garlic mashed potatoes was ok. The garlic flavor was evident, but not as strong enough to notice especially for someone who loves food with bursting flavors.
Desert - we got crème brûlée. It was light and not over early sweet. A great desert to finish off the night.
Overall - great restaurant, food, drinks, and service. Our night total came out to $190, which matched our expectations for the up scale restaurant. I would go back here again to enjoy the tuna dish and steak burgers (just get it, you won’t regret it!)

Read moreNEVER COME HERE!!!! We reserved a table for 8 people for a joint celebration of two birthdays. Doing so weeks in advance, we were more than excited to visit Edward’s. What a mistake, we were hit with massive disappointment the minute we were shown to our table. The interior is extremely sad — everything at Edward’s screams “OLD,” and even the smells resemble the ones of a retirement center. There are practically no windows, which makes it worse. All the furniture is super old and reminds you of Soviet Union. The walls that used to be white turned yellowish. It’s not a pleasant place to be at; even worse, you can’t wait to escape and forget about it forever. The food is really highly priced, but it’s quality and taste is very poor. Edward’s positions itself as a steakhouse, so you’d think that at least the meat should be decent. No! Their steaks are one of the worst we’ve ever tried, and we ordered several most expensive options on the menu, so it’s not a one time mistake. The steaks were literally disgusting and the meat itself seemed old. Service — HORRENDOUS. The server basically threw menus at us, like a high school teacher giving out tests back to the students. He didn’t even bother to walk around the table but remained in one spot, so everyone has to scream to get him hear us. I dared to ask the server whether they have a bag stand /stool (which is very common at such high end restaurants - you don’t put your bag on the floor). Let me emphasize that I was extremely polite and nice. The server just outright laughed at my face, made a face and overall was SO MEAN AND RUDE. I didn’t experience this level of meanness that takes a bully-like form for years - anywhere in daily life; and I have NEVER received such horrible treatment at any restaurant. Our check came up to a thousand dollars. Every single cent was a waste of money. If anything, I felt like a deserved a compensation for the moral damage and ruined evening rather than had...
