I had the luck to eat at this lovely restaurant who belittles my children and makes fun of my family. They treat children like trash here. The waitress sucked and the reviews on here on lies. I am a level 3 reviewer on here and I only review honestly . The manager is extremely rude and pretends to be kind over the phone just to draw you in to her restaurant. Once we received our food the waitress forgot to show up the remainder of the meal. I repeat they disrespected my children by calling them trash and saying I should be ashamed just because my child dropped some food on the floor. They do not cater to children whatsoever. Since I have to be honest on here the rice was great but the chicken was extremely dry. I will never come here again. There are a million other Peruvian places with better food who treat you like family wether you have children or not. The restaurant is also extremely overpriced for such poor service. Also I was assaulted there and from what the owner said he has cameras that film. I encourage him to call the police and let them see the film footage of everything that happened. For your information it was not robbery. I stood there waiting to pay until the woman grabbed my wrist trying to snatch my wife's debit card. That is illegal by the way. We were going to pay until you guys started belittling children and yelling. So if I wanted to press charges I could. I'd love to see you call the police and attempt to press charges . Also there is no excuse to belittle children for no reason. Your trying to make yourself look good when in all reality we both were wrong. Your trying to say my wife was putting her hands on someone when all she was doing was trying to open the door to tell me to leave . Don't sit here and lie to make yourself look better. I repeat we were both wrong and I encourage you to call the police so we can both deal with this matter. I repeat one more time go ahead and call the police . I would love to deal with this in civil court. I also encourage you to hand over the entire film footage of the incident . Especially when she grabbed my wrist in an attempt to grab my wife's credit card . Also I repeat we were both wrong. The saddest thing is your employees and you judged us the entire time as if we were degenerates. You never once addressed us if we needed water or soda refills. First of all I don't need to steal anything I own a trucking company that makes more than you will ever wish to make at your little hole in the wall. We didn't leave one by one. Get your facts straight. My brother in law went to the car because my nephew threw up all over the place and he was going to take care of him . Then you guys started fighting with my sister in law and belittling my nephews and nieces. What grown person makes fun of children and disrespects children. My wife was opening the door and telling me to leave at that moment because of what the lady did. You also retired to hold me hostage in your restaurant which is actually illegal as well. I stayed behind trying to figure out what was going on and the woman grabbed my wrist . My wife was opening the door telling me to leave at that moment. It had nothing to do with paying a little 77 dollar bill. My brother in law owns a trucking company that makes more money in one month than your restaurant would ever see in its lifetime. So don't sit here and try to make yourself look good. We were Both Wrong and the situation was handled horribly as a Whole . We did not pay because of the disrespect and assault that your employees did. I encourage you to...
Read moreWithout any doubt El Gordo is my favorite Peruvian restaurant, they offer quality & quantity food and most importantly food here is made with love and real ingredients. The restaurant is small yet cozy, very vibrant, clean & located at Central ave which is a busy street in Jersey City Heights, BYOB it’s always welcome so bring yourself a nice cold beer or some good wine to enjoy while you eat a tasty & fresh Ceviche mixto ( which happens to be my favorite Ceviche ever), choros a la chalaca or ceviche de camarones. Here are some of the dishes that I recommend to anyone who truly enjoys Peruvian cuisine, Appetizers; papa a la huancaina, causa de tuna or papa rellena. Soups;caldo de gallina, chupe de camarones, sopa de pescado and the famous and delicious parihuela. Traditional Peruvian dishes; arroz con pollo y huancaina, seco combinado & aji de gallina. Entrees; tallarin saltado, verde o a la huancaina with chicken or steak, lomo saltado, chaufa rice & bistec encebollado. For Seafood try the arroz con mariscos, chicharron de pescado, pescado a lo macho ( a must try), & the yummy jalea. The rotisserie chicken which is a signature of Peruvian style it’s always so fresh, tasty & fresh and you can buy a whole chicken or they have more options which accommodate to how hungry you are, their green sauce is to die for also a must try with any of their dishes, yes it goes well on everything! Lastly, I want to talk a little bit about the owner, Liz she is a woman with so much passion for the food served at her restaurant, she goes above and beyond to make sure everything is going great while you are eating there, she works hard every day to make sure El Gordo keeps on providing authentic dishes, I’ve had amazing experiences here with food & service so I will continue to be a costumer until I try everything on the menu & then I repeat again! Thank you El...
Read moreI am always on the search for good Peruvian food. I have an appreciation for the jumble of flavors, techniques and ingredients used to make these vibrant and uniquely infused dishes. El Gordo Restaurant really captures what Peruvian food should be. They stand out for me because they offer more than just your traditional Peruvian dishes.
For example, their Seco Norteño (stewed lamb) is a Peruvian dish I've never seen before! And I've been to quite a few Peruvian restaurants! The lamb so tender and flavorful! Or lomo on top of a Hauncaina sauced noodles- NOW THAT'S DIFFERENT! However, the two dishes that can make or break me (my Peruvian favorites) are the Ceviche and Chaufa! Both plates were SPOT ON and A MUST to order here. The ceviche was made of Mahi Mahi fish which I thought was a nice touch. Perfectly marinated and cooked, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. The chaufa, a healthy pile of seasoned, fried rice under chunks of fried, fresh fish and shrimp. AAAA-mazing!! Put top it all off, anyone who's anyone knows it's all about the green sauce! El Gordo has by far the best green sauce I have ever tasted! It has just the right texture and the amount of heat. I can't wait for them to bottle it up so I can take the sauce home with me!!
This is why I love and support my local, family owned restaurants. It's little hidden gems like this where you can find the most delicious foods. The service was great! Oh and before I forget it's BYOB! They'll soon be launching a brunch menu, I can't wait to check out.
If you're in the area, make...
