Oof, not sure where to start with this one. Several red flags from the start, might be my fault for not catching it sooner.
Not sure what they are going for with the theme/vibe here as it’s a very large space (warehouse with exposed ceilings and large curtains to separate staging areas, etc.) but only a small portion of it is reserved for the intimate dinner tables. It seems like they are still trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t… In my opinion, it’s definitely meant to be an “after work drinks” spot. Don’t bother getting food here unless it’s on the company tab.
The staff was very friendly, but maybe my wife and I came during a slow period which is why they had 4-5 different servers hovering near us at all times. I also noticed they used 4 servers to clean and reset a single table (one server would have sufficed).
We both ordered the Korean BBQ chicken (highlight of the meal) to start and each had a steak. I ordered the ribeye (I typically order my steak medium rare and it came out close to well done). The balsamic drizzle and chimichurri saved the steak but even then, no where near worth $65. To top it off, they gave us both butter knives to cut our steak… butter knives. C’mon.
I assure you, you can get a way better meal in NYC for what you’ll pay for here. Not sure if they’ll last that long charging prices like that with such half-hearted...
Read moreWe visited The District on a snowy Saturday night and was surprised to find it nearly empty. Maybe the weather kept people away, but given that it’s been open for about six months, I was surprised it wasn't busier. Granted, I personally hadn’t heard of it before this day.
That said, the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Service was definitely a highlight of the experience.
The menu leans toward steakhouse fare, and while the food was solid, I’d probably still choose a dedicated steakhouse if I was craving steak. One standout, though, was the fries—fresh, crispy, and easily a highlight of the meal. Keep ensuring these are made to order- fabulous! The appetizers were good, but a small detail stood out: the portions were uneven, which made sharing a bit awkward. Since many diners come in pairs (date nights, etc.), serving even-numbered portions would make more sense.
For those who enjoy games, the restaurant features three large pool tables, which would be great for groups. Personally, I’d love to see a dart area added, as pool isn’t really my thing.
Overall, The District has potential, and with a bit more buzz and a few tweaks, it could become a go-to spot in Jersey City.
Would I return? Maybe—especially with an addition of a dart board and for made to...
Read morePurely outstanding from start to finish. We are vendors at a Bridal Show this weekend and the DJ vendor next to us recommended this place. It was absolutely worth the 25 minute drive from the Meadowlands Expo Center to Harborside. Parking is conveniently right across the street. We had the Potato Croquettes, a Little Gem Caesar salad and the Autumn Squash Salad as appetizers. They're all absolutely highly recommended. The Caesar salad dressing was very flavorful and just enough Parmesan to make it incredibly tasty. The potato croquettes were cooked perfectly and the Autumn squash salad was a fantastic compliment to the other two appetizers. I couldn't wait for the risotto to arrive, anticipating it to be exceptional and I was not disappointed. You absolutely have the save room for dessert, The chef brought us a s'mores dish that was a perfect end to a great meal. Jada our server was absolutely phenomenal. Polite, respectful and entertaining but not too pushy, each time she came over to our table, the interaction was light and fun. The atmosphere was modern and relaxed and the entire staff were very friendly. If you're looking for a place to eat in Jersey City, The District should be at the top...
