I came to the store with my 8-year-old daughter to return a book we had purchased the day before, on July 10th, with the intention of exchanging it for a new one. When the cashier asked my daughter whether she had read the book, she honestly answered yesâŚ.of course she opened it. Based on that, the cashier refused to process a return and instead suggested donating the book and purchasing a new one at full price.
We declined, explaining that your policy allows returns within 7 days. The cashier replied that returns are only accepted if the book is defective (e.g., misprinted ink or manufacturing issues), which contradicts our understanding of your general return policy.
Despite this, we ended up buying two new books. When we asked for the original book back, the cashier hesitated, then gave it to us with a smirk, saying, âYou said you didnât need it and wanted to return it.â I was shocked by this response. Not only was our valid return refused, but the cashier also acted as though it was acceptable to keep a book we had paid for without issuing a refund or clearly explaining why the return was being denied.
I would appreciate clarification on your actual return policy and an explanation as to why the cashier acted this way. Was the refusal to accept the return in line with company policy? And on what basis did the staff assume the book could be kept without refund or...
Read moreIn theory, I should like this place. I have a young daughter who I am encouraging to read and would prefer to support a local bookstore as opposed to amazon. The staff here isnât very welcoming. I am not the guy who looks for nor wants a lot of customer service interaction. My experience was that I walked into the shop, carrying my daughter, at a time that there were no other customers in the place. Neither of the employees greeted me nor asked me if I needed help finding anything. As I browsed the shelves, I was planning to pick up a couple books and cancel an outstanding amazon order, but one of the staff walked by me to re-shelve books, whispered âexcuse meâ and still didnât ask if I was finding everything alright. It was almost as though I was in the way (in an empty shop); and seemed oddly cold and unwelcoming, something you can get by buying online while spending less. I walked out. I wonât be going back. 2 stars for selection. Maybe your customer experience will...
Read moreWord cafe is a gem of a place located in Downtown JC on Newark Avenue. While it's a book-store/cafe/gift shop it's as valuable a business as the multiple glowing night-life venues located in the neighborhood.
Some of the most memorable highlights of this place There's a cute little cafe in the second half of the shop that serves brilliant coffee, croissants and a bunch of home-made organic food items. The greeting cards are absolutely adorable. I've come here to pick a card for almost every special occasion ranging from "Happy Birthdays" to "All the bests" and "Valentines Days". The best part about them is the quirky messages/ visuals on the front side followed by space to write your own sweet message The store holds a vast collection of books of all genres as well as other gift items such as candles, mementos and so on
pro tip : If you create an account with the shop, they do let you exchange items within 24 hours of purchase.
J.C. needs more of such...
