First time here was 4/13/24 Saturday around 4:30 pm. Everything was perfect!! Service was exceptional!! There was even a manager walking the floor checking in with customers to assure excellent service and food. I was impressed with her demeanor, very pleasant, and outgoing. She asked us if the food and service were good. She never asked if we needed anything, she didn't have to because our waitress was doing an outstanding job and we made sure she knew this and the steaks were on point!! Now..for the second time, we returned 2 weeks later on a Saturday around 5 pm. This time things were very different!! Our waiter was doing an excellent job!! No complaints there! He was polite and attentive! I ordered a 6 oz filet and asked for it to be cooked medium rare, I also got the rice pilaf, fresh broccoli and added the grilled shrimp. When our food arrived I immediately noticed that the steak looked nothing like the last one I ordered. I cut into it and found it was cooked medium, on the verge of medium well. Ok, fine, rather than complain about it and have to wait for another, I figured I'd just rather not say anything and eat what was served. I took a bit and the meat was a bit tough. Oh well, my fault for not saying anything to begin with! So I continue to eat, then I take a bite of the rice..now I'm a big fan of seasonings and salt, but this was on the verge of being inedible!! Way too salty!! And I continue to knaw on my overcooked filet, it started to dawn on me that I wasn't even eating a filet!!! My guess it was a sirloin? Possibly? The toughness of the steak definitely let me know it wasn't a filet!! It was thin and chewy. By now I'm extremely disappointed and on the verge of being angry. I finish the broccoli and the rest of the bread and appetizer, leaving the steak unfinished and set aside. I finally showed our waiter and told him that I'd take it home and give it to our puppies as a snack. The waiter told us that this has been the norm for the night with the chef not getting orders right or over cooked. Although I enjoyed our first visit, to say the least our last visit will be the last!! I don't appreciate being charged for something I didn't get!! If the chef kept messing up, then it's time to replace them!! The practice of having a manager walking the floor and checking to make sure everything is running smoothly is a great way to ensure that employees are doing what's expected of them!! An absent manager is, well, poor management..this isn't a truck stop where you pay 20 bucks for a sub-par meal and service. My final bill was $120. For 2 people!! Needless to say I will never darken their...
Read moreThis was my first time here. Very nice decor on the inside. However, table was grimy like it had been wiped down with a greasy wet rag. I hate it when restaurants do that.
The waiter served a small, warm loaf of bread and soft butter with our drinks, which was very tasty.
I ordered the chicken encrusted parmesan. I tasted way more garlic than parmesan, so I wasn't impressed. Meat was tender and juicy, though. This meal came with a side salad and a choice of one side.
Salad was very unimpressive. Just a bunch of greens with maybe six quarter inch diced tomato pieces and a handful of croutons. I forgot to ask for my salad dressing on the side, which I always do, and of course they put the salad dressing directly on the salad. Restaurants always put too much dressing for my liking and this was no exception. So my greens were drowning. I hate drowning greens and I hate croutons.
The side dish that I ordered was the mashed potatoes. The flavor was ok -- not bad but nothing special, just ok. However I was horrified at how small the portion was. It was maybe half a cup.
The best part of my meal was the dessert. We got a piece of chocolate molten lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. That was a surprisingly large serving for one person so my husband and I split it. It was absolutely decadent. I think a full serving would probably be too rich for most people.
Our server was an older fellow. Looked to be in his late 60's. I have never seen someone, especially a male, in his age range waiting tables before. He was pleasant but very professional in his demeanor and did a good job juggling several tables. He even brought me a refill on my drink without my having to ask.
My husband got the ribeye steak and had no complaints at all. The ribeye looked huge to me. My husband, who can really pack away the food when he wants to, will end up getting three meals out of that piece of meat.
As for drinks, my husband has one beer and I had iced tea.
With tip, our meal came close to $85. That was the most horrifying part of this dining experience. To me, that is absolute robbery to charge that much for what we had.
If it was up to me, I probably wouldn't go there again. But my husband is a huge red meat freak so we probably will end up there again but I will encourage him to try other steak...
Read moreWe usually eat at the Kingsport location, but due to water issues they we're closed, so we went to the Johnson City location. Boy oh boy was that a mistake! We always get 2 New York Stip (rare) dinners and one margirita. So that's what we ordered. Our margarita came out fast, but had too much sour mix. We waited 20 minutes on the bread, and our salads came out with our steaks, even though I requested them to come out before. Now, let me tell you about the steaks.....cold cold cold, so bad the butter wasn't even melted. I know rare steaks aren't cooked long, but they aren't suppose to be cold, with barely any grill marks, and still over cooked. How is something over cooked and still cold?! We told the waiter, he took our plates and said they'd be out soon. The manager brought them, but didn't wait to allow us to cut into them and check the cook and warmth. Second go around the steak was cooked okay, butter melted, temperature better, but everyone knows when your first food/meal is messed up it messes up your meal! Oh yeah, they gave us the baked potato and sweat potato from the first steaks, because they were cold and hate been eaten from. So we packed everything up, minus the potatoes. Never saw the manager again, paid our bill, and tipped the server, because after all he didn't cook it. We will NEVER return to the Johnson City location, and thanks to there mess up it'll be awhile before we return to the Kingsport location. Long Horn Kingsport's location has great cooks, but your Johnson City cooks need to be brought up to par. When you pay $20+ per steak they should be right the first time. Even Applebee's can get the temp...
