I think they still have some kinks to work out! Fun experience and totally different than I expected! Yes, pricing is astronomical but there are some more “affordable” options included on the menu. Drinks and shareables outshone the mains in my opinion(at least for our visit). Our group of 4 got all different cocktails, and they were all great! Chopped salad and wagyu meatballs were great starters. I opted for the salmon which was supposed to be medium but came out well done. My husband’s filet was good but wasn’t served hot. Our friend got the scallops which she said were great but there were only 3 pretty small ones. In other reviews it looks like they typically serve 4, so a bit disappointing for the price point. When we arrived, we had to wait a little to be seated and once table was ready they started to bring us upstairs, then said nevermind and took us to a different table that was not ready on main level.. so in the confined area of tables and staff we had to stand around and wait to sit down until it was. The initial waitress didn’t offer tap as an option for water but we knew to specify, so just FYI if you do not want to pay for bottled water be sure that you explicitly ask for tap. Live music was a surprise but enjoyable , Talya and her crew were very talented. The music was a bit too loud in my opinion though, as we could feel the thumping of the speakers in our seats. There are a lot of hands involved to make sure service is steady, but we often felt like we were waiting awhile to actually order anything because each staff member of the 3 assigned to a table seem to have different roles. Then when it came time to order any food we were told to order everything at once, which involved waiting again as we were not expecting to put in our entrees at that time but knew the shareables we wanted. Our waiter was a great salesman and convinced me I did indeed need a sweet treat (I am easy to convince when it comes to dessert).. I ordered apple pie but then it turned out they were sold out. Probably was for the best being how late our reservation was and to not add another item to our bill lol :) I think discussion is needed by management to the staff regarding the Inkind app. When it came time for the bill there was a bit of frustration and confusion for all parties on how to pay. It is not something we would have even used if it wasn’t advertised on the 1587 website directly, so we assumed the staff would have been well informed about the process or potential of guests paying this way. Additionally, they state they are unable to split the items to different checks but you can pay a certain amount to the ticket.. we had one person pay via the app, but this is good to know for future. Overall, an exciting experience and fun addition to KC. While maybe it is “overpriced” you wont find a restaurant here that matches the unique energy 1587 Prime brings. If we can get a reservation in the future, we will definitely be back for a special occasion and hope to have a more seamless experience! *our bill was ~$500 for 4 people before tip - we all had 2 drinks, shared 2 starters, did our own entrees, and...
Read moreWe visited Kansas City for a game ( A gift for my birthday) We got in early on a Saturday and explored the city while our room was getting ready. Exiting the Lowes hotel after a drink at the bar we noticed the door open to 1587 and a smiling lady was holding the door for deliveries. My wife shared that we had desperately tried to get a table. Megan, who was holding the door asked for our names and info, sharing there was a good chance we could get seated at the bar and she would add us to the list for openings.
We assumed it was impossible but decided to take a gamble and get there early. We quickly got dressed properly, and went back to the door to wait in line. We arrived well before opening, shooting our shot. After a wait for some time the hostess asked for our names, our info was in the system (thanks Megan) and we were offered a seat at the bar! We were in!
Atmosphere was incredible, staff were welcoming and warm. The design is art deco, unique and a feast for the eyes. Rounded corners, rounded booths, very unique and dripping with class. The music selection made us feel like we stepped into a modern lounge in the 50s, it in no way felt old but certainly felt classic. Timeless and again unique.
Eating at the bar is not the ideal dinner experience but we certainly had a pleasant time. The bartenders were plentiful and accommodating, their was a slight hiccup in ordering (which we attributed to working out the kinks after opening so recently) but the management staff and our bartenders more than made it right.
Drinks were an experience and delicious. Table side martinis and the big yeti (10/10).
Our meal was delicious, had the strip and my wife had a filet, we had the potatoes and the broccolini. Custom plates with a wolf added to the ambience (we are chiefs fans 100%). The strawberry basil sorbet topped off the night refreshingly. We highly suggest the bone marrow topper, just make sure you are clear between the topper and the butter as they are both “bone marrow”.
Live music was excellent and the sound stage top notch. Speakers are everywhere and at no time was the music intrusive, though it did fill the room.
I want to add a special note to the management staff and B.N. She checked in from time to time offering a tour. Which we were curious about and understand the need to keep the bar rotating patrons, but when she mentioned that a private room will be booked we jumped to see it. We won’t spoil the surprise but it was worth it. It added to the allure to know there was a private dining space that anyone could have dined in.
We left abuzz with excitement, we made friends and exchanged contacts. We followed some locals to another bar near by. We really got a sense that this restaurant would be around in 20 years and we might go back and catch a retired player grabbing a drink at the bar. It felt classic, timeless and somehow down to earth.
Not being local, we will always make this a priority when returning to Kansas City. We also want to be clear, even if you are not a chiefs fan this is an experience. Thank you 1587 Prime for a memory we will not...

I was hopeful being seated upstairs would help, but it did not. We spent the whole night leaned over the table speaking at above a normal talking level to be able to hear each other. And my husband couldn’t hear the waitress all night. Also very put off by how close our table neighbors were. We were seated against the wall, so a booth on one side and chairs on the other. The mother and daughter that were next to us were lovely, but we all were way to close to each other.
Service: our waitress, Lauren, was wonderful. The only hang up I had was when I noticed my glass had a chip on the top and brought it to her attention, she asked if I wanted to finish it or to have her take it away. I’m not sure who would want to keep drinking out of a class that could potentially knick you.
Food: disappointing. The bread that I had heard other last rave about was hard. We ordered the lobster rolls, which my husband said were good. I had the petit filet, which was tender and well cooked, but the compound butter was too overpowering. My husband had the delmontico, which was overcooked, chewy, and pre cut? We shared an order of fries that were extremely salty. After those experiences we chose not to have dessert. I also had a wild lychee which was Devine, but unfortunately I only finished 1/3 before finding the chip and therefore not finishing it, nor being asked if I’d like a replacement (which I would have happily paid for), or any type of resolution for not only having damaged glassware given to our table, but being unable to finish due to an error on their part.
All in all, we were not impressed with our time at 1587 Prime. While some, if not most, of this could be overlooked or chalked up to “it happens”, I don’t believe that should be the case with a restaurant of this caliber. We’ve dined at other surrounding fine dining restaurants that are at the same level price, and have always enjoyed exceptional food and atmosphere. Unfortunately we will not be back, nor could we recommend. And the only picture I took was of my lovely drink, which happened to have the chip in it when I looked back...
