My review when I was there a year ago was "One of my favorite places to eat in downtown KC. Near the Sprint Center is the Gas Light district." and 5 Stars. I enjoyed it so much that when the wife and I went to KC this past weekend for our ten year anniversary I convinced her to go here with me again for our celebratory dinner. It was, not a great experience. It started with an 8:15 reservation. We got there early at 7:30ish and had no problem waiting as we were watching the Hog game; however, 8:15 came and went then 8:30 rolled around and no one had even checked on us. I had to go and check in on the situation and it was super obvious they completely forgot about us as they started to scurry around to find a table. Ultimately they seated us at a small 2 chair table in an awkward open space. (would have preferred a booth). It felt like our dinner was on display. We proceed to order and did the 3 course meal for each of us. Never asked me how I wanted my steak prepared, but I let it go since I am not super picky on that. Had to ask for the biscuits multiple times from multiple staff before and during the meal, they never arrived, not once so we sat hungry until nearly 9pm before food arrived with NOTHING. Never asked if we needed anything with the meal like salt and pepper or etc. The staff was spread so thin that the only time we saw our waiter was to order, to get my one drink from the bar (couldn't get more as it took so long), and to pay. Food was brought out by someone else and someone else did one round of refills. This should have been a celebratory dinner; however, the entire conversation that night was about where was the staff and why weren't we getting any attention. We got so frustrated we asked for the dessert to go. The dinner was good, can't deny that, but so many other challenges distracted from it. I am not one to make a fuss at the restaurant, that's what reviews are for. The one star is for the good food we did get. We paid and tipped appropriately, but sadly, this will likely be the last time we visit Bristol in KC. Definitely gave us a ten year anniversary we won't...
Read moreWe arrived at 3:30p not realizing that they had a "down period" to prepare for their dinner rush but, we were still seated. We were advised ahead of being seated so it was fine. About 15 min later a white group walked in and they were seated... even though we were told REPEATEDLY that our order couldn't be taken until after 4p we reviewed the menu and planned our order. 4:07p came around the white party had appetizers MULTIPLE before a server had even came to take our order. Once the server finally got there, he was so impatient, I ordered all our food the "Lobster crab roll" it was basically a cole slaw sandwich 😩 it was so unflavorful and dissatisfying for the price! I ordered 1 1/4 alaskan crab it came with 2.5 legs for $34. The surf & turf , I had the 6oz fil/ 8oz lobster tail $74, my friend had the Mixed Grill for $44.50 the proportion sizes were very skimpy. The server never asked how was the food. After waiting for the food to finally come out, being that the white party had all their items on their table by 4:05p, we didn't get our Semi WARM food until 4:45p. We weren't offered bread or anything. For the price and SKIMPY SMALL PORTIONS bread, salad, something should've been offered. We often had to flag someone down if we needed anything but, they were extremely attentive to the other parties. (Whom happen to be WHITE). I paid for the food but, the hospitality, & nonetheless the atmosphere definitely fit ' The Power & Light" stereotype about dining while black. Our overall meal was $220 and I would have so much rather took our money, time, and support elsewhere. The food, the customer service, the hospitality, all just trash! We ordered two fruity drinks! I'm a very, very, very light drinker, and I couldn't taste, but barrel could smell the alcohol. When tried to ask about the drink, the server rushed us off and kept trying to walk off. He was very hard to communicate the order too. Insisting "that's just the way the drinks were" ... It was just a...
Read moreMy son wanted to go here for his 17th birthday because he loves their food. We normally go to the leawood location however it seemed to be extra busy that day so we went to the downtown location, we didn’t know what restaurant week was and quickly found out when we arrived. My wife ordered clam chowder with her meal and when she went to take her first bite she looked down and there was a piece of plastic in her soup, it was the seal from what looked like a milk jug. We showed it to our waitress and she took it back. Then we ordered steaks for for my daughter son and myself and wife got the sea bass. My daughter’s steak was not cooked to the correct temp she asked for (medium) and instead of making a new steak they stuck the same one back on the grill, not what I would expect from this type of restaurant. My steak was cooked correctly however I asked for Oscar style and I even asked the waitress how they do it because what I did not want was a crab cake on top of my steak and guess what I got yep what looked like a crab cab on my fillet. My son’s steak was not correct temp but at this point he didn’t want to mention it. The quality that you would expect from a place like this was not there that night and I’m guessing that restaurant week had something to do with it. My thoughts on this are if you’re going to advertise to bring in lots of people then you should really be prepared. Lastly I ordered a glass of wine with my meal and the wine glass was brought out and was filthy yet still given to me!!! My family and I frequent nice restaurants weekly and normally spend between 400-700 on a meal and tip very well so for that night to spend 400 on a meal and get that type of low quality and service was ridiculous. And here’s the kicker, not once did a member of management come over to apologize for anything. So we will not be going back to this establishment again. I am a firm believer in the fact that if you want quality you have to pay for it, this...
