If I could give this place -5 I would! We made reservations based on their #1 rating on brunch on Google. It was awlful! Our reservation was for 11am our food was at our table at 12:30!!! We ended up asking for to go boxes because half our party had to leave by 1pm. We ordere bottomless mimosas and only got filled 2x! The server gave us the excuse they after 2 you get your money’s worth...It took over another half hour to just get our checks and pay!!! I don’t know what’s going on here but fix it! My tab was $40 and we had a party of 10, the amount of money we spent deserved better service!!! ............................…
Since I am unable to reply back to the Owners response to my review I will just add on mine. You stated we did not arrive until 11:25am for an 11:00 reservation except for a woman with a baby.I have time stamped phone calls from two other other people of our party that arrived the SAME time as the woman with the baby! I also have an Uber receipt to show that three of us including myself arrived no Later than 11:15am!!! TWO people trickled in very late but DID NOT ORDER FOOD OR DRINKS! If you are attempting to blame the two individuals who didn’t order and food/drinks then please stop that attempt.
You stated there was a to go box left. Yes there was ONE to go box left of the THREE you gave us. One person left and paid. THe other twos order was incorrect, the woman is pregnant can does not eat pork but there was still pork in her mean, they had to sit and waiting additionally for their ticket which took over 10min then they had to sit and wait for a side salad that she originally ordered to be brought out. Her husband was very hungry and began picking into his to go and was able to scarf down his meal, which is why ONE to go box was left.
You stated the rest of us stayed at the table until 1:30pm, yes that’s correct, it was my birthday and the rest of us had no further plans, we assumed we would be getting another mimosas too off, making it a total of THREE, but you proceeded to tell us, A: you were out of mimosas B: after two drinks you get your bottomless mimosas money worth C: then you changed your mind and said “but for you I’ll go ahead and top you guys off.” You stated there was another reservation at our table, while we were sitting there, how are we as guests suppose to telepathically know other people have our large group table reserved right after us? No one from your staff told us another party was waiting, or even suggested us moving to the bar, NO-ONE!
From your response to my review, the notion is that your are failing to acknowledge the lack of service that was rendered to your customers that day. After we left your establishment we assumed it was a fluke, but due to your response and failed ownership and empathy I can see this being an occurrence. My party of guests were very respectful in spite of the service we received, your efforts to put us to blame is shocking and mind you not in your best interest, considering we are all professional working adults who hold significant stake in this city’s social platform. Never will we be patrons of your...
Read moreTry their charcuterie! It will not disappoint! This time we had the wagyu beef, jaeger schnitzel, braised beef, duck and venison...10/10! To our server.. didn't catch your name but you're tops, young man! My daughter-in-law was nursing and they provided her with a quiet place just for that. We absolutely love this place! Still our top pick for KC fine dining!
Older review: Made online reservations. Next day called to see what tables were available and a sweet young lady sent me photos and let me choose my table for the evening. Arrived and it was a very nice place with a warm atmosphere. Server was very nice. I had been a little under the weather and very thirsty and he stood there filling up my glass while I waited on my husband to run back to the vehicle for something her forgot. The water was very nice, lol not just because I was feeling dehydrated but it taste like soft, filtered water, which I love! We were served fresh made pretzels with their house relish, house made pickles and, the house made pickled butternut squash, which I'm a HUGE fan of! The menu was great! It was one page of, what seemed, very well picked main dishes like house made brats, Snitzels, venison, rabbit, duck and halibut (I know there was more). It's just that you don't see many places offering venison, duck & rabbit! I chose the rabbit and my husband ordered the Jaeger Snitzel. It was beautiful, the smell was wonderful, the Jaeger Snitzel....A PROPERLY MADE JAEGER SNITZEL!!! (WARNING: Don't make the mistake of getting a properly made Jaeger snitzel from Affäre then going to Grunauers and expect anything close! You've been warned!) My rabbit was prepared three different ways with fried squash blossoms and a butternut squash puree. It was beautiful! We had never eaten at Affäres before and I'm not sure if another German restaurant could ever meet our expectations now! Lol! Going to make it hard! I'm looking forward to going back and trying the venison, halibut or maybe that Jaeger snitzel my husband ordered! Not sure but I'm certain it will be cooked perfectly! If you want authentic German cuisine have it cooked by a German Chef! Oh! Their pastry chef makes desserts that tops the meal off perfectly! And yes! 5 stars only because I couldn't give them more! At the end of our very fine meal all we could do was reflect on how magnificent the whole experience was! MY HUSBAND AND I RANKING AFFÄRE #1 GERMAN...
Read moreI don't know if the chefs just had a bad night but my entree was atrocious. At a cost of $180 for me and my wife (one appetizer, one canned herbal water, two entrees, and two desserts), I've never felt more ripped off by a restaurant.
Our server was kind, funny, and attentive. It took maybe 45 minutes to an hour to get our entrees after we ordered them.
The lobster poutine truffle fries were good. I don't think it necessarily tasted like lobster and it needed a bit more salt, but overall the flavors were well balanced which is notable considering truffle is often over utilized.
After a lot of deliberation, I chose the boar chops. The two chops were small, like lamb lollipop small. They were overcooked with one being the toughest, driest pieces of meat I have ever had the displeasure of ingesting in my life. It's like they dropped it under the grill grate and forgot about it. They were burnt. No, they were not just "charred," they were burnt with crusty, thick, bitter patches of char. They were probably unseasoned. Not underseasoned. Unseasoned. What wasn't burnt tasted faintly of pork and nothing else.
The herb spätzle was so flavorless that I doubt it was prepared in a room that even smelled of spices or had visible herbs. If it wasn't for the faintest of flavor of eggy dough, it would have tasted of nothing. I almost couldn't tell it was in my mouth while I was chewing it.
The two pieces of asparagus were, again, unseasoned. They were also inedibly burnt. The intense bitterness of the lack of proper temperature control was the only flavor.
The roasted carrots were mostly fine other than being burnt on the ends.
The mushroom demi-glace was decent because it was salty, but it did not taste like anything beyond a gravy any competent cook would make at home. Unfortunately this was not enough to save the dish.
This was my first time trying pavlova so I don't know what it's supposed to be like, but it seemed fine. Nothing about it was particularly delicious, but I ate all of it.
My overall impression is that I never want to eat here again and if I wasn't there for a friend's birthday, I would have sent back my plate and asked...
