Overpriced, unprofessional, and just disappointing. So many people recommend this place and I have to be honest, I’m not really sure why! I have tried to give this place a chance but everytime they come up short. When dining in, service feels rushed and not personal at all. First off, the host was dressed in some kind of emo, punker rock outfit with black lipstick and a bunch of facial piercings. Not saying this is a bad thing, but as first time diners it was a little off putting for the kind of restaurant it is. Her attitude was horrible, like she didn’t want to be there. Walked us to a table, literally threw the menus and silverware down and didn’t say a word. Our server was constantly asking if we were ready to order drinks when we just sat down and told her we are looking and that we were waiting for more people to arrive. She and was rude when we asked to move seats when it was too loud outside, proceeded to tell us no, we couldn’t because they’d have to “switch servers”…. I’ve been a restaurant server for over 4 years, this doesn’t even make sense? Just move us and tell that server? That should never be a “no” answer. As for food, everything on this menu is ridiculously overpriced. Char Bar should call themselves a “ trying to be luxury” bbq joint because these prices are luxury but the food is NOT. Just because you have string lights hung outside and a live singer doesn’t mean you should have $23 mac n cheese. Yes, it was delicious. But $10, and to add less and 1/2 a cup of brisket on top is another $9? When ordering online, doordash does not have the option to add or remove brisket with the mac n cheese, but listed in the description of the item, it includes brisket. When it arrived to my house, no brisket, and no bread crumbs either. Just regular, Stouffers style mac and cheese in a plastic container. After 4 tries and too much time and money wasted, my final words are this- Your food is great, but your prices are astounding. Your customer service is also terrible and not friendly. For anyone reading this, save your time and money, go to KC Joes. I’d rather spend double the amount of money at a small gas station bbq joint than every step foot in this...
Read moreI recently visited Char Bar Restaurant and overall had a positive experience, although there were a few aspects that left something to be desired. Let's start with the positives. The food I ordered, the BARBACOA BRUNCH BURRITO, was delicious. However, I was a bit disappointed that there weren't many burnt ends in it, as that was something I was really looking forward to. Despite this, the flavors were great, and I enjoyed the dish.
My wife opted for the BRISKET 'N' EGGS and she seemed to like it. However, she did mention that there was a significant amount of fat on the meat, which was a bit off-putting. While the meat itself was delicious, she felt that there wasn't as much meat as she would have liked. Nonetheless, the overall taste was enjoyable.
Our server was friendly and accommodating throughout our visit. They provided excellent service and made sure we had everything we needed. We were particularly impressed by the skillful preparation of their Bloody Mary. It was strong and flavorful, a true delight.
The outdoor seating area at Char Bar Restaurant was the highlight of our visit. It created a pleasant atmosphere, allowing us to enjoy our meal in a relaxed setting. It was definitely a great addition to the dining experience.
However, I did have one issue with the management. I overheard a conversation in which they were talking negatively about Taylor Swift and how her presence had slowed business down on a typically busy Friday. As someone who had come from out of state specifically to see Taylor Swift and had chosen to dine at Char Bar in anticipation of the concert, I found this bitterness to be unprofessional and off-putting. It would have been better if the management had kept their personal opinions to themselves, as it did affect my overall impression of the restaurant.
In conclusion, despite the mixed experience, Char Bar Restaurant delivered delicious food, a pleasant outdoor seating area, and a friendly server. However, the disappointment regarding the lack of burnt ends and the excessive fat on the brisket, coupled with the unprofessional comments made by management, slightly tarnished an otherwise...
Read moreI really wish I could give this place 5 stars because it is a great atmosphere, but the skinny bartender who was around his late 40s, early 50s with a beard yesterday around 430 on Sunday was extremely rude. My boyfriend ordered a Long Island (he never does but was in the mood for it because of the weather & bartender basically insulted him into trying to have him order your most expensive cocktail. I get the upsell but an old fashion/Manhattan is absolutely different from a Long Island. Also, I am over a year sober with alcohol so it’s exciting when I see a mocktail list. I then asked if he was able to do a cucumber margarita with salt and complained about how busy it was earlier today that they ran out of the batch and he had to make more (which I totally understand because I am in the service industry for over a decade myself) but I simply was asking for cucumbers cut into a virgin margarita and he was telling a whole story about a mix that had alcohol in it and being extremely hostile. I would have just been okay with a regular virgin margarita, just answer the question that you do or don’t have cucumbers and let’s move on. I barely see my friends and go out, so starting out the vibe with a miserable bartender like that was uncalled for (all of us were servers at a bbq restaurant for many years so we all knew his attitude and behavior shouldn’t be allowed in the service industry.) It’s not welcoming. It is insulting, rude, aggressive, hostile, and nasty. Just simply tell someone “sure” when someone orders a drink or joke about it. If someone is trying to get a mocktail, don’t recommend something with alcohol on it, help them with alternatives, not discourage them. We ended up getting a table and our server was amazing, so was the rest of the staff running food was great but one bad apple can really affect the place in a bad way. Luckily, we were able to move on and shake that guys ugly aura off after catching up and having a good time the rest...
