This was a convenient place to grab some food before a play at Union Station. It's right off the street car line on the first stop from Union station so it's location is fantastic. I visited at noon on a Sunday and it was very very busy. That said, I don't think that this reflects the busyness that would normally be present on a Sunday. The Sunday I visited was the first playoff game for the Kansas City Chiefs. So I expect a sizable number of people who would normally have been there or not. This was my first visit so I have no comparison.
We ended up sharing a table with two other ladies and we were the last people to get a seat. Because it is order at the counter service and you get a number and your food gets brought to you later, it became apparent while we waited for our food that many people had ordered before realizing there were no tables. So it may be worth scoping out a table before placing your order. It was below 30° when I was there and they have a super cute patio with a huge fire. But it would not have been possible to eat there and not have solid ice as my meal. The only table that we were able to squeeze in at was right next to the door so I noticed a plethora of people having to huddle around the fire to eat their food.
The food was tasty, but nothing totally spectacular. Also be aware that prices for breakfast do not include anything more than your breakfast sandwich or burrito or whatever else you order. So you will have to pay another $2 or $3 for a breakfast side if you are looking for a sandwich and hash browns. The quiche is really the best deal on the menu because it comes with a side salad so you feel like you got a whole meal for the price of a meal instead of...
Read moreWent in on a snowy Saturday morning about midday. It was packed. We were going to eat in, but it is open seating and order at the counter and there is no organization to how you get a table. You basically just have to hover around a section and hope that there is unspoken code between others waiting, but while we were in the line I saw someone come in and cut in front of others waiting for a table while their other party joined the line. This could be better managed to avoid confrontations. The line moved pretty quick, but the people in front of you block the menu and so by the time you can see the menu you are about to be order. We ordered 2 coffees, a half sandwich, turkey chipotle wrap and the biscuits and gravy. About $45 total. The waiting area for coffee and take out is in front of the trash / utensils and so we constantly felt like we were in the way, and it was about a 15-20 min wait for food with coffee being half that time. The food was really good. The half turkey sandwich was loaded with a good amount of meat and cheese and was really fresh. The biscuits came with 2 pieces of bacon (snacked in them before the pic :p) and the wrap was also good. Overall it was good, but the hassle of a table and the long wait is the reason...
Read moreI've now had lunch and breakfast from here, so I feel like I can write a good review.
The first time, for lunch, they were hella busy but I was just picking up a to-go order. I did have to park illegally with my hazards on. Parking is tricky during busy times - all the lots around are for other businesses, but there is limited street parking. I got a Guacamole Chicken Club - I honestly inhaled it because I was starving, but it was really good - I love that they use chicken thighs instead of dry old breasts.
Today I ordered breakfast to pick up. It was ready before I got there even though I work 4 minutes away. JASMIN is freaking amazing, she was so friendly and helpful! Here's what I got: broccoli bacon cheddar quiche with fresh fruit, chocolate chip banana bread, and Milly's Iced au Lait (1/2&1/2 and half-sweet). The quiche was absolutely perfect - the crust was crispy, no watery bottom, all the flavors perfectly balanced. The BANANA BREAD HAS CREAM CHEESE FROSTING ON IT, it's like cake for breakfast. The iced coffee tasted like dessert, like an affogato.
I might go back for lunch today for real. So impressed. You never know what you're going to get downtown but now I know that Mildred's is the spot! 9/10 recommend (just...
