Our visit to Ono Japanese Ramen & Sushi was fantastic from start to finish. We ordered the Black Tonkatsu Ramen, Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen, Shrimp Tempura Roll, and Gyoza (fried dumplings) — paired with a cold Kirin Ichiban and refreshing peach soju. Everything impressed us.
The Black Tonkatsu Ramen came with a savory pork broth enriched by house garlic oil, layered with tender sliced pork, half an egg, bean sprouts, scallions, corn, bok choy, and seaweed paper. It was rich, aromatic, and deeply satisfying.
The Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen elevated the classic tonkatsu base with house spicy paste. The broth had just the right kick — bold and warming but not overpowering. The fresh toppings balanced it out perfectly, and the portion size was generous.
The Shrimp Tempura Roll was a highlight — crisp, batter-fried shrimp with cucumber, crab, and avocado, finished with a drizzle of sauce. Fresh, well-portioned, and beautifully presented.
The Gyoza were golden and crisp on the outside with juicy, savory filling inside — a classic side dish that paired well with everything else.
Between the flavorful ramen, fresh sushi, satisfying sides, and the drinks, Ono delivered across the board. Service was friendly, the atmosphere cozy, and the presentation made every dish feel special.
Highlights:
Rich, flavorful pork-based ramen (garlic or spicy).
Fresh sushi rolls with great presentation.
Crisp, juicy gyoza dumplings.
Cold Kirin Ichiban and peach soju to round it all out.
Overall, Ono Japanese Ramen & Sushi is a must-visit spot for authentic ramen, sushi, and Japanese comfort food....
Read moreGood, but...
I ate it all. It is part of the clean plate club. The egg was great, a nice mix of veggies, and for the style of pork, it was good. I got the spicy tonkatsu and it had a kick, but I would recommend they serve with additional spice for the customer to add as it would be nice to kick it up after getting used to how it is served.
I enjoyed the broth, btw. It was creamy and had a good flavor. I did have the spicy tonkatsu, so some of the flavor of the broth was covered by the spice, but the broth was definitely creamy, regardless. A good balance of umami and salt.
I do question how fresh the ramen noodles are, however. They were overcooked, or they are prepackaged. They were not a bad flavor, but the texture was missing that I would reserve for 5 stars.
I was also disappointed that the pork was not served chashu style, another reason for the 4 stars. They are just cooking flat pork belly, then slicing that and cooking it up before plating. It leaves the meat tougher and lacking the flavor that it would have if they would wrap it up as chashu.
All that being said, I suggest going. The broth itself is something to experience, and the servings will leave you full. I hope to try again next time...
Read moreThis place was decent, the food was good, and the service was great... But as with so many things these days the price seemed just a bit high. It isn't to say the food was not good but ~$15 for a bowl of ramen seems exceptionally high, also the service seems geared with our dumb tipping culture in mind NOT the Japanese customs that the food of the restaurant is centered around. It's not fancy enough to be something like that, and it's also not quite 'fast food', it falls into a casual dining situation and doesn't feel like it knows what to do with it. Sure in the States a ramen/sushi shop isn't all that common, but it would probably do better to take after the actual Japanese simple restaurants that serve these things, make it more accessible to the average person both cost and casual atmosphere (and cost), and it would probably do even better. Of course location might also be a limiting factor. I could see a place like this doing well somewhere in a busy part of town where people want more than just a burger and have a few more minutes to sit...
