Most of us know about Vietnamese broken rice dishes. No two places are alike.. Com Tam Saigon… been to a few already. This Asian Town location boasts a clean and bright interior. R I at the humble.. quieter hospitality amidst the hustle and bustle of happy diners tucking into their meal.
One family member tucked into their broken rice grilled chicken dish- Com Tam Ga Nuong. This dish tasted natural and free of flavor enhancers. The nuoc mam was authentic and full of daikon radish, carrot slivers and chilli flecks. And it smelled so good like it should as you dip the grilled meat in.
Now, the usual Vietnamese beef noodles 🍜soups we ordered has quality and soothes those who are feeling just under the weather for the day. Nourishment and love in a bowl of hot soup . The tendons, tripe and eye round steak slices were very tender and fresh.
The highlight of our dining experience is Bun Mam. It’s not everybody’s cup of tea. However, for the food connoisseurs and foodie adventurers who are in search of wholesome, authentic flavors of a country .. ask around .. check out and try something out of the usual. BUN MAM would be one of those at Com Tam Saigon.
There’s a warm fish and shrimp base note to the broth.. gotta squeeze some lime juice which will lift the flavors of the broth and all the ingredients in this one dish.. there’s eggplant, Chinese chives, shrimp, pork slices, squid.. bean sprouts, fresh mint leaves and shredded cabbage to garnish FANTASTIC!!👍🏽😋.. tender and delicious. Recommend you check this place out.. try the hot pot.. try the rice dishes.. come and a bellyful of the noodle soup..

Firstly the minimum to use a credit card is $15.00 so I ended up ordering extra which I probably shouldn't have done. I ordered the spring roll and while it was tasty, it was stone cold. Good for my daughter (who is 3), not so good for me. That tells me they do not cook fresh and leave it around. My mother ordered a pork bun plate. The meat really had nothing going on. It was also a bit tough as well (I've had better at other Vietnamese restaurants). The sauce and pickle vegetable was good.
My dish was the shrimp paste with noodles. This dish was good and usual. The noodle was soft and they provided more vegetables to go with it which I appreciated. The only thing I don't like is what they put in the middle of it. I don't know what that was or if I am suppose to eat it, but I took a bit and it was horrible. I am hoping this was something I was meant to take out but then I don't really know why they would put it there in the first place.
Overall its pretty average. I definitely would say its not 4 star. The service here was very lacking as well. I hardly saw our waiter after we ordered.
So would I come back? Probably not. Its not really...
Read moreOur experience at Com Tam Saigon was average at best. While the menu was quite extensive, nothing in particular made us want to return for another visit.
Service - what you would normally expect from a Vietnamese restaurant. Brief, accurate, but not overly friendly.
Atmosphere - nothing mind blowing, everything seemed to be clean
Food - we were able to sample three of the items below:
Com Tam Saigon Dac Biet 2 - this was one of the restaurant's signature dish with Vietnamese broken rice. The presentation was 10/10! Plate was beautifully presented. Taste-wise, just average. Nothing stood out as amazing.
Banh Uot Cha Lua Nem Chu - rice sheet served with fish sauce, pork bologna, and fermented pork sausage. Decent tasting, fish sauce was a bit bland. Restaurant was also skimping on the meat.
Goi Ngo Sen Tom Thi - lotus root salad with shrimp and beef. Good portion size and presented well on the plate. The vinaigrette was unfortunately lacking in flavor which brought down the entire dish.
Overall, not the worst Vietnamese restaurant we've been to. There's a lot of better Viet restaurants here in the Katy area though. Given our average experience, we probably won't be...
