I took my 71 year old dad who has been a truck driver for Werner for over 20 years and surprisingly never been to a Rudy’s. My father driving 48 states has had the best and worst BBQ in the nation. We didn’t hesitate to stop in when I gave him the thumbs up on Rudy’s. We both ordered the 1/2 brisket moist cut with sides and he loved it so much he asked to go order another half pound. Great! I made my father happy with food as all sons want to do. When we went back up to order the staff was having a line up or small staff meeting of some sort and we had to politely interrupt to be able to order. The manager with was Caucasian with a shave head and looked annoyed.
I was explaining to my father what a regular brisket cut was, a moist cut and a top cut and asked the employee if there was any possible way I could achieve a top cut the second round. The employee turns and ask the manager if he could do a top cut and he very snarkily and annoyed said just give him moist. No big deal to me, the moist was still good. The only problem I had and I didn’t let my dad know attempting to not ruin his lunch with unnecessary conversation was I ended up giving him some of my brisket when he wasn’t looking because his 2nd order was more dry than his first and he would had noticed. To make matters worse the manager very cockily pulls out a whole freshly BBQ’d piece of brisket while we were still in line after I had just asked and starts trimming the top cut in our faces.
There are so many places with good BBQ in Houston and my father spent at least $100 on lunch between myself and him. The least that manager could had done is say no indirectly and not rubbed it in our faces as he’s trimming a brand new piece giving us a worse 2nd round. He could had been thoughtful enough to wait for us to walk away. Our second round of BBQ did not match our 1st by any means from 20 minutes previous.
Great food, terrible attitude from the manager. I will be convincing my dad to go elsewhere from no on. I do not support people who do not know how to be kind to paying diners and polite people. Too big to fail? It only takes 1 bad apple to bring down a business. I apologize to Rudy’s for leaving this, however this should not be a strike but the manager sure made sure I felt it....
Read moreThe Katy Rudy's has always been my "go to location." However, I sometimes go to the Cypress/290 store depending on my errand location since I live the same distance from both locations. Today I went into the Katy store around lunch time to purchase food that my husband and I would eat at dinner. It was the first of multiple errand locations that I visited (i.e., Costco, HEB, Kroger and a salon visit). I received a business call that lasted about 20 minutes while I was still in the restaurant, and long story short, I ended up leaving my bagged-up food on the table. I didn't realize that I left my food until about 5 hrs later when I got home and couldn't eat dinner because I didn't have the food that I bought. I called them and ended up speaking to the manager named Alicia. I explained that I think that I left my food there. I knew I did because I went to other food places. I was afraid that someone might have decided to take some extra food home with them. Alicia explained that they retrieved the food and had been holding the food for four hours but decided to throw it away. She immediately offered to replace the food and told me that it would be ready in 25 minutes. I went back and explained what happened. What made Alicia's customer service even more memorable was that I had decided to purchase the $5.99 size of peach cobbler which is simply the best cobbler I have found in the Houston/katy area. The peach cobbler was an add on purchase that didn't show up on the original receipt from the earlier purchase. I actually think the cobbler receipt was in the bag with the food because it was rung up separately. In any case, Alicia took my word and replaced the cobbler also. They gave me the large size but I told them that I had bought the smaller $5.99 size. What makes Alicia stand out is that she chose to give me good customer service. There are some managers that would have been like "oh, sorry." But Alicia chose to provide me with good, quality customer service. As I left the store, I thought to myself " she is probably one of the reasons why the staff always give good customer service." Thank you Alicia...I was able to return home and not have to cook dinner. Keep up the good...
Read moreI was alone for lunch today and not with my s.o., so I took full advantage of this rare opportunity to have bbq for lunch. The line moved quickly and before I knew it, I was up at the counter ready as can be to place my long anticipated order! I went for the jugular, well, in this case, the arteries and ordered 1/2 lb moist cut brisket (so much more flavor than the lean cut) and a 1/2 jalapeño sausage, 2 slices of white bread, beans and a drink. Now, when it was time to pay, I quickly pulled out my bank card and telepathically begged the cashier to hurry and take my money! So he did and we wished each other well, parted and I wandered into the sunset. I found a not so noisy spot so that I could eat in peace like a little quiet church mouse...errr...ummm...ok, I was ready to devour my lunch like a pack of ravenous wolves! Lol! I looked around to make sure no one was looking but I quickly and methodically took one half of the sliced bread and scooped up some of that glistening, beefy, moist cut brisket and some how some way, inhaled that portion down the hatch and mysteriously vanished without a trace! Look, let me just say this, it's usually decent or at times pretty good, but today, today was extraordinary! That crust on the beef was crunchy! I don't mean crunchy from being dry, I mean crunchy because it was well seasoned which made such a tremendous crunch that's not too common for bbq joints to achieve these days! I smoke briskets at home and do a pretty amazing job because it's usually one or two at a time but these guys do WAY more than that per day so I have to give credit where credit is due! That meat was on point! Super flavorful and moist! The beans were good as always and the sausage was good too but didn't finish it all like my eyes were trying to make me do, I brought the rest home for later and reflect on my day with a big smile on my face! Haha! So, I say all that to say, get down there if you have a craving for a good bbq plate, especially if you're not sure where to go or what to have, this is it! Just get in there and no regrets!...
