I wanted to check it out before hitting the movies.
Firstly - the good. The location is great, and it was easy to get seating (6pm on a Friday). All the staff were super friendly, eager to help, and did a great job with service. Food came quick, and it was a great pit-stop before continuing our night.
The drink selection is weird... a "Cadillac Margarita" should not have OJ in it, yet their "Classic" (or whatever it was called) was what I'd call a Cadillac anywhere else. Perfectly serviceable... the Bartender was friendly, and the drinks weren't /too/ overpriced. Only complaint was when it got busy we got a marg that wasn't shaken with rocks so it came out a bit warm.
Now, the bad. To be frank, the food here is overpriced and... kinda mid. Kent is full of fantastic Mexican food, so I went in with tempered expectations... and kinda got what I expected. We got a macho burrito and a enchilada for around $20 a plate. My burrito was... fine. My partner's enchilada was shredded chicken in a tortilla covered with the blandest possible toppings. Our chips & salsa was also kind of mediocre, we could definitely tell we got the bottom of the bag of whatever brand of chips they were serving. Wasn't worth complaining about though.
If "getting Mexican" for you is going to Azteca, or you have picky eaters (kids, old people, Europeans??), or you're getting drinks and are armed with the knowledge that the food gets better the more you drink... it's a fine place. Everyone seemed...
Read moreThe only reason why I gave 2 stars was because the music was good. But the food was bad, the drinks were even worse, and the server had such a bad attitude that I didn't want to leave a tip, but because I know how hard it is to work in a restaurant I still tip her. When we came in, we asked to sit at the bar, and there was one table open, we realized that it wasn't clean, so when the server came with drinks, we asked her to please clean the table and there is where everything started with her. She then came with a rag and made it look like she cleaned, but I think a 2 year old can clean better. Then she came right when the 3rd person of the party was just arriving and asked us for drinks for like the 3rd time, she didn't even allowed us to look at the meni, so we asked her to come back later. I ended up ordering a frozen margarita, and that one looked like a virgin because I did not taste the tequila at all. We also ordered the fried calamari, but that brings more fried vegetables than calamari. When I was ordering my dinner plate, I requested not spicy, to make sure they didn't add any hot sauce, and the lady looked at me like I was crazy and didn't know what I was ordering... It's definitely not a good mexican restaurant, I have been in way better places than that one, so not interested in coming. And in case you decide to go, make sure they don't sit you on Katie's section since she...
Read moreThe chicken burrito was a letdown from the first bite. The chicken was bland and dry as if the concept of seasoning was entirely foreign. The rice and beans, which should complement the chicken, added no flavor but contributed to an overall mushy texture that was neither pleasing to the palate nor the eye. It was wrapped in a tortilla that seemed to have lost its will to exist, lacking the fresh, slight crispness that distinguishes a good burrito. Instead, it was soggy, turning what should have been a culinary delight into a disappointing chore.
As for the chicken quesadilla, it managed to fall short of even my now-adjusted expectations. The cheese, which should act as a delicious glue binding the chicken and tortilla together in a harmonious blend of flavors, was scant and lacked the melting, gooey quality one looks forward to. The chicken, consistent with the burrito, was underseasoned and overcooked. The tortillas were oily, not toasted to golden perfection but rather greasy, detracting further from the overall taste.
What was meant to be a simple yet satisfying meal turned into a disheartening dining experience. Mexican cuisine is known for its vibrant flavors, fresh ingredients, and the skillful blend of spices. Sadly, Agave Cocina and Cantina's chicken burrito and quesadilla missed the mark on all accounts, serving dishes that were devoid of the essence of Mexican...
