Honestly, we'd ordered takeout from here and it was just okay, so thought maybe it'd be better fresh during a sit-down dinner. Very wrong. It was actually horrible. The staff was nice, the restaurant itself was pretty cute, but that was not remotely enough to make up for that terrible food. Note that we both tried the black garlic ramen--additives making it taste like cheap freezer garlic bread--but I'm here to complain about their ramen base stats that should ALWAYS be good, or at least decent.
The broth was watery and lacked the umami flavor. The chashu pork was questionably light colored, the fat was not rendered so it was just GROSS and chewy to eat (if you could find a dark-ish piece). EVEN THE TEA EGG was so over cooked the yolk separated from the base as they set our bowls down and was actually chewy. My husband thought maybe they microwaved it it was so badly overcooked. Also not seasoned well. The only salvageable thing about the ramen was the standard noodles which were cooked well. We also got the croquettes: they weren't terrible, but not particularly good tbh. They were under-seasoned and the texture was gummy, meaning they over mixed their potato batter by a lot.
I will definitely never eat here again. I haven't had ramen that bad in a very long time. We left both of our bowls barely eaten. My husband always finishes his ramen bowl, but not this time. If you want good ramen, go to Arashi instead (they're tan tan ramen is the best). We should've just waited for the extra 30 minutes to sit down there rather than settle for this mistake.
Even if they were having a particularly bad night, it says something about the chef that they'd even send that out to customers. The chewy light pork was about 2 seconds away from being less technically edible and more oinking on the farm.
I felt bad for the wait staff for having such terrible food to serve people. There's no way that they haven't lost out on tips at other less polite tables because of the chef's poor cooking. We just dumped half a gallon of soy sauce to make some edible, paid, and didn't get to go boxes for basically still full meals. Waste of food. Seriously, hire a better chef. I also felt bad for the pig for having to be wasted like that. It was not...
Read moreI visited Shibu Ramen about an hour before closing with a friend, simply hoping to enjoy some drinks and edamame. Unfortunately, the service we received from our waitress, Grace, was extremely disappointing.
From the moment we walked in, we felt unwelcome. We were clearly ignored for several minutes and had to actively get her attention just to be acknowledged. When we finally did, the menus were slid across the table without a single word--no greeting, no warmth, no basic courtesy.
Throughout the entire visit, Grace did not check on us once. Our food was dropped off without a word, and at no point were we asked if we needed anything else. Most frustratingly, there was no last call or warning that the kitchen was closing--she simply dropped the bill on our table and said, "Kitchen's closed."
This level of service was both unprofessional and disrespectful. Everyone deserves to feel welcome, regardless of the time they walk in--especially if the restaurant is still open. I will not be returning to this location and cannot recommend it based on this experience.
If you're looking for better customer service and a more welcoming dining experience in the area, I'd recommend checking out Trapper's Sushi or Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya.
I truly hope management takes steps to train their staff better and ensure guests are treated with the basic respect all...
Read moreMy wife and I were trying to catch a movie and wanted to grab some sushi first. We actually went to Trappers but they went out of business and closed. So, we looked around and found this place offers sushi and ramen. So, we gave it a try. The food is not too bad. The sushi was really good. The fish was fresh. I would have wanted the rice to be softer and the wasabi to be more spicy. The noodle was a little too salty. Otherwise, they were good enough for it to be in the list for a revisit.
Update We had a good experience when we first came to this place. My daughter and her husband were in town, so we took them here. This time it was a disappointing experience for me. They both ordered ramen noodles. They really enjoyed the ramen noodles. I ordered sushi and the pork bao again because on our last visit the sushi was good. so my sushi was bad. They must have made it earlier and stored it in the fridge. The rice was hard and not fresh. The waitress didn't bring me a plate to eat on, and I had to ask for it. Then she didn't bring me the small dish for the soy sauce and wasabi. I had to ask for it. Also, the pork bao was really dry. These two items are totally opposite from what we had the first time we...
