Just Poké Kent — Restaurant in Kent

I’ve been coming to Just Poke for years, and this one in particular since they opened. I always get the same bowl, twice a week, big fan of the place and poke in general. However, when I went this week, there was an employee I didn’t recognize… I ordered the same bowl I always do, and got to the checkout and it was more expensive than normal. As I have been coming here for so long, I asked why the bowl was more expensive and was told “you added extras”. He had not informed me that anything would be extra, and there was no signage indicating anything I put in the bowl was extra. I asked him to remove what was extra, he proceeded to throw some crab into the garbage and then come back over to the register… I thanked him for understanding, tried to shrug it off, as I found a first option of throwing food into the garbage odd, and waited on the updated total. He never updated it, then said he wouldn’t change it, and that the bowl was still big (I did order a large after all) and that it would still be the same price, as if I had added “extras”. He was being quite condescending and rude… I stopped and smiled and politely said “I come here twice a week and order the same bowl and pay the same price, what was extra?” I looked through the menu, the prices, etc and there was nothing to indicate that anything in my bowl was extra, the menu is clearly marked with what is “+$1” and what comes with the bowl. I told the guy I would pay it if he could just tell me what’s extra… he actually refused and told me “thats what I’m supposed to do, that’s just how it is.” At this point I smiled and said I’d find somewhere else for lunch. It’s a bummer cause I like this place, the rest of the employees are very nice and service is usually great. I don’t know if this guy was having a bad day or what, he seemed annoyed that I had even walked into the store before I even said hi. I have honestly spent thousands of dollars at Just Poke over the years, but I’m not going to go somewhere that an employee gets mad at a customer for asking why their bowl is more expensive than the previous hundred visits… I don’t often have interactions like this and never leave reviews like this, this was a very off-putting experience that honestly ruined my day. I don’t mind paying an extra few bucks if something costs extra, but don’t be a jerk about it and if you made a mistake, just admit it, or if I made a mistake, tell me what costs extra… or update signage if prices have changed, or at the very least, let me know it will be extra before adding it to my bowl… all around miss on...

Just Poke at Kent Station - Mixed Feelings

I visited Just Poke at Kent Station for the first time, and I must say, the ambience and environment are top-notch—definitely deserving of 5 stars. The atmosphere is inviting, and the menu offers a great selection of items, making it one of the best poke spots in the area.

However, my experience was somewhat marred by an interaction with one of the employees. I wanted to pay extra to add a small scoop of seaweed from the Hawaiian bowl to my rainbow roll bowl. Despite my willingness to pay extra—whether it was an additional $1 or even $5—the employee was defensive and wouldn’t budge. The menu clearly states that you can add toppings for an additional charge, so I found this rigid adherence to policy over customer satisfaction disappointing.

I believe that when a customer is willing to pay extra for something, the staff should be accommodating. This interaction made me question the work ethic here, and I hope that the management considers better training for their employees to foster a more customer-friendly approach. At the end of the day, it’s just poke, and the focus should be on ensuring the customer leaves satisfied. I really hope to see improvements in this area, as it would be a shame to reconsider coming back based on an otherwise great experience. I would like to add that had the experience been more accommodating, I would have gladly left a gratuity of over 20%. Buckle up, this is going to be a long review! Lol! First, I will say that I was SUPER excited to see a Poke place in Kent today when my boyfriend and I went to the AMC for Wakanda Forever!! I haven't been able to get some decent Poke since before the pandemic, all my favorite spots in Seattle had to close. I want to apologize now for not getting a photo of my meal but I got tunnel vision and gobbled it up super quick, that should speak for how good it was. The service was great, everyone was helpful and the location is very clean and welcoming. I was very pleased that they let me split the base since I love doing half greens and half brown rice. Let me say this, a great bowl of poke is a dance of ever-changing textures, aromas, temperatures and flavors in varying combinations. Each bite is a different ratio of these fantastic elements in masterful juxtaposition. Fresh, bright, colorful, healthy, refreshing, filling, customizable. That being said, Just Poke knows this all to well!!! There are so many options for every layer without it being overwhelming or intimidating. There's just enough that you won't be concerned about the freshness and safety of the ingredients. I can't wait to go back and try sweet potato with my favorite proteins and the musubi.
