I ordered a cake for my birthday and provided a picture and paid in advance for it on the phone. I purposefully chose a very easy and simple design and they messed it up. Colors were not correct and it was supposed to be three rows of frosting on the sides and they put four and they also chose a dark purple which was not what was on the picture. Dark purple frosting is bitter. I also ordered vanilla cake with almond frosting, which is their specialty. Well I got no almond at all. And after looking at the receipt it says buttercream icing and then below it says almond, so somebody did not read it or they could have called and got clarification. Now their butter cream has no butter in it at all. It is all shortening, which they vehemently deny, but I have a picture that shows clumps of shortening. it can be nothing else but shortening. So I spent $65 on a cake that was wrong. Now I did not call and complain as they never take responsibility and claim I am wrong. Which happened previously where I took a cake back and practically had money thrown at me because half the cake was super dry and the other half was fine. So this is the last time I will ever go there again. I did try to go to the other Heitzmann on Bardstown but that was the ugliest cake I had ever seen, although it did taste good and I got my almond frosting, but they are closed now. Now nobody else does almond frosting unless I want to pay a home baker $100 for a cake. I did give 2 stars because the actual cake was good and moist. The frosting just ruined it and I know they use less sugar than most, but the frosting tasted like nothing at all except a bunch of fat in your mouth. Hardly sweet at all. I did get a response and I appreciate that very much and I do hope that going forward your other customers and future new customers will not get the same experience I had. I believe in local businesses and I do frequent them and I really hope that the changes mentioned in your email will happen. Thank you!

Update: Feb 7 12:30pm, went to the shelbyville road location. I was looking at the dips & found 3 containers of the black bean dip covered in mold, brought it up to the gray haired lady with a pony tail and pink shirt at the counter. She didn't say anything, no thank you, no offering of a free donut or something out of appreciation. This could have made A Lot of people sick. The dates said 2/20 so someone isn't sanitizing the prep area, maybe didn't clean well, or the food was bad, maybe dates need to be changed to EXP within 7 days. Someone needs to go through the fridge items daily to check items are good. Not to mention if inspection saw this, that A would have been dropped to an F. Also I noticed on the small cheese torte there's red onions in my dip, but onions aren't listed on the ingredients. I'd update that ingredient list to reflect the actual ingredients used. I brought it to their attention when asked if onions are used to make it, but they didn't seem to care. . . . I got 2 boxes of the petit fours from Kroger for my birthday. They were Not Dipped in Fondant icing like they have been in the past. They just had the icing on top, nothing on the sides... I was really disappointed. At the bakery, they had them dipped on display. Seems like someone isn't dipping them in fondant icing for the Kroger stores.

I asked them to make 12 cookies for my daughters 7th birthday party. They were supposed to have a white pearl border around them and when I arrived to pick them up they had no border around them. I asked them to please put the white pearl border around them and referred to the picture I sent to them. They came out of the back with tiny white dots all on the icing of the cookie, like polka dots not a border. I included the picture with the cookie I wanted. It has a gold crown on it, I asked them to replace that with her initials in silver with a glimmer effect. I absolutely asked time and again for that border to be either candy pearls or a pearl looking border with frosting. I am disappointed in this place, because I have heard nothing but good things about them, yet they seem to not care about quality. I will not be using their services again for anything important. Another thing to be careful about was that they insisted they take my card over the phone for payment before they could proceed with my order. They had not yet charged my card when I arrived and had my card number and info out on paper for anyone to see.

Paid for my wedding cake in full on 9/14/24 for my wedding on June 21, 2025. I ordered a 4 tiered simple piping cake to be delivered to Huber's Orchard and Winery. My husband and I live in Indiana, and we went into the bakery 3-4 times throughout the months leading up to the wedding to verify all the details and delivery time. I called Thursday 6/19, and I was promised my original delivery time of 3pm by the latest. I was assured it would be delivered between noon and 3pm. The day of my wedding at 3 pm comes and goes with no sign of the cake. My day of coordinator, mother, mother in law, Florist, and my aunt are all calling Heitzmans to see where the cake is. Nobody is answering! Finally, my day of coordinator reaches the delivery driver, and he tells her he is a few minutes out. The cake did not arrive until 5:15 pm!! My ceremony started at 5:30 pm!!! It was carried in on one shoulder by a man and dropped off, which I witnessed lining up for the ceremony. My florist asked the 3 people that dropped it off to help put the flowers on because they were going to drop it and leave. When I called today to get my delivery fee refunded, the driver told me he was there before the ceremony, and I was harsh for asking for the delivery fee refunded. He also said that they hand put all the flowers on the cake, which is not true because my florist asked them to help put flowers on and the conversation was witnessed by my day of coordinator, my mother in law and obviously the florist. I asked for my delivery fee refunded, and I was told I was being too harsh! The guy I was speaking to was one of the people who delivered my cake on my wedding day! Eventually, he agreed to refund my $75 delivery fee. Other brides should know my experience if you're getting married at a distance from the bakery. I was very disappointed because up to the wedding day, everyone had been wonderful to work with, but I would be cautious to have anything delivered at a distance.

Update: The owners son called me 7 times in the matter of 10 minutes after posting this review. He said I was being unreasonable for posting this review. I told him I was too upset to speak with him, and I would call at a later date. I spoke with the owner Marguerite today who was unapologetic about the situation and how her son handles business. I am very disappointed in this company. She shared that they were not late and they were supposed to be there before the ceremony started, even if its 10-15 minutes before walking down the aisle and your cake is not decorated. She also said they have been in business for 5 generations and cakes will always be delivered one handed and on a sweaty person's shoulder. Also, I still have not gotten my $75 delivery fee refunded. It has been over a week.

We are supposed to get a "free anniversary cake" at our 1 year so my husband and I started eating our top tier of our wedding cake and it is not the correct flavor. It was supposed to be almond/white and strawberry. The top tier is all strawberry.

I would not recommend having any specialty cake ordered or delivered from this company. Rude, unapologetic, unprofessional, and not...

Stick to what you know best - baking. (I hope) I visited this place a few years ago and had some delicious baklava. Since I was in the area, I had hoped to get it again but they no longer make it? The baked breads and desserts always look great but I have yet to try any.... I decided on having lunch. There were a few daily specials and I chose to have the turkey club sandwich that comes with side soup or salad, and a bag of chips for $7.99. Turkey made in house for the sandwich. Sounds great, doesn't it? Choice of bread, I decided on sun-dried tomato and had it toasted with mayo. There's a display case with salads to choose from - pasta, tuna, curry chicken, and fruit. I'll be honest - you can immediately tell they weren't made today. They look dry and either need to be stirred, checked for freshness or all of the above. Even the fruit salad was wilted. No way this was made today and I was there at 11am. I picked curry chicken salad. (It looked the best out of the bunch) The staff is very friendly, the lady gave me my side salad with crackers to start while I waited for my sandwich to be made. Adjacent to the bakery/deli is a seating area. I went over and sat down and noticed cute little older ladies sitting at a few tables playing cards. Adorable! Any way, the curry chicken salad was seasoned well, I could taste the curry, it had a great crunch to it - red onions, celery and grape but the chicken was dry, very dry. Like when you over cook a chicken breast and it flakes and crumbles apart making it chewy. I hear my name and a woman comes out of the back holding the plate - almost extending her arm for me to come get it. I met her half way. Sat down and noticed water on half of my plate. The sandwich came with a few pickles on the side, but the water wasn't from the pickles - it was water coming out of the dishwasher and sitting on top of other wet plates. The sandwich was barely toasted, I mean it kissed the toaster and walked away. Only one side of the bread had mayo and it came with lettuce and tomato. I took off the bread on one side because the lettuce didn't look appetizing at all. It was wilted romaine. Sometimes you get romaine lettuce and need to peel off a few leaves to get to the good stuff. This was neither. The tomato was paper thin and mushy. It wasn't sliced today. I could bet it was sitting in the fridge since the weekend. I removed the lettuce and tomato from the sandwich. The turkey was dry. I ended up putting the curry chicken salad in it because it desperately needed moisture. I'm sorry this isn't a good review, but you really need to work on the quality of your ingredients or do without lunch completely. Not a pastrami sandwich to be found on your menu, so odd because...

I pre ordered a custom cake on 04/17. They had an example of the type of cake I was looking for so I pointed out that one. I asked for the colors to be changed from pink to blue and the rest to be more of “guy colors “ being that the cake was for my brother. The lady helping me, helped me choose some colors. She then asked me if I wanted his name on the cake or cake plate. I said cake plate because I didn’t think there would be enough room on top without cramming it in. I paid for the cake, bought some more items and left. I came in yesterday 04/29 and when I saw the cake, it wasn’t what I asked for. Instead of where the blue was supposed to be it was white! It really took away from the cake. And on the cake plate it said happy birthday and on the top crammed in big black bold letters was my brothers name. It wasn’t even the same writing as the cake plate. The lady who was helping me was nice and she offered to get the manager. The manager came over and asked what’s the problem and I explained it to her. She was looking at my receipt and said it doesn’t say that on the receipt and I explained that is on their staff and the lady who took my order went to the back and directly spoke with the decorator who was going to do my cake. I was right there at the register and everything was discussed and agreed on and I paid for the cake. Everything I asked for was directly communicated to the decorator who then gave me the price. The manager then said something about them doing over 200 cakes over the weekend. She first offered to scrape the name off the top and smooth it out. I told her no because I felt that was tacky and plus that part of the cake was supposed to be blue not white! She then offered for me to come back the next day and get the cake and they could spray the white blue. I said no again because it was my brothers birthday and I was on my way to surprise him. She then offered me a 15% refund and I was going to take it at first but then I gave the cake another look and I didn’t think it was worth that. I told the manager I would take a full refund. She seemed irritated and I went to my car to get my phone to take a picture but the manager took the cake away and said here’s your refund and I’m sorry about the cake and walked off. I’m disappointed because I was really looking forward to surprising my brother. I felt the decorating was rushed. And the attitude of the manager made me feel uncomfortable like I was wrong for not liking something I paid $100 that wasn’t correct in the...
