Visiting for the day to see an old friend we decided to try this little spot. I'll be honest and say that I haven't had Mexican Food this boring and bland since my last trip to Europe. In this case it was a good thing for my friend from Nebraska who can't handle spicy heat. To me the Salsa was OK but very mild. No heat at all. The bean dip was the same. Just watery re-fried beans out of a can. The chips were actually pretty darn good with a nice corn flavor. My friend had the Carne Asada and Chili Relleno. The Carne was a small tiny steak, grilled with no seasoning. The Chili he really liked. I didn't try it but it looked good though half the size of ones you'd get in Phoenix. It looked like they used half the chili. My dinner was edible but totally weird. I had the Chicken Mole. The Beans and Rice were good. Actually the Rice was the best part of my meal. it had good flavor. The beans were beans. The Chicken Mole consisted of Pre-Packaged Nuggets of Chicken cooked and then covered with the most Un-Mole Mole Sauce I've ever had. It tasted more Indonesian than Mexican. Mainly because they use Peanut Sata Sauce (my opinion) in the Mole Sauce. It tasted nothing like any of the Mole varieties I've had over the years or the Peanut Mole Sauce I had many years ago. It had a slight Peanut flavor. This one was over-powering. They need to eliminate teh peanut and add some chili to it. I would avoid this place until they improve upon their authenticity or get a better Mexican Food Chef whos knows their stuff. Unless your over 70 and your system prefers things mild like Jell-o. At least the prices...
Read moreFirst of all, there was an obnoxious drunk guy who was talking so loudly to the other people at his table that my husband and I were very distracted during our entire meal. More than once the man even blurted out some obscenities and none of the wait staff seemed concerned about it -- they just ignored him. In fact, another couple left abruptly and complained about the same thing, but again nothing was done about it.
Now, about the food. The chips and bean dip were good to start with, but the salsa had an odd oily consistency so we stayed away from it. My husband ordered cheese enchiladas and I asked if the kitchen could make their vegetarian burrito chimichanga style, which they said they could. Our food came quickly, but it was terrible. My husband's enchiladas had no flavor -- the sauce was bland and the cheese didn't taste like anything. The rice on both our plates had no seasoning either and it was so overcooked it was mushy. My chimichanga was served with sour cream, guacamole, and a spoonful of cheese...no sauce! There wasn't even any sauce or cheese inside of the burrito -- they just filled it with dry black beans and rice (even though the description of the vegetarian burrito indicated that it had a whole lot more in it). We ended up not eating much and our waitress asked if we liked the meal. We said no, but she didn't offer to do anything about it or ask what we didn't like.
The only good thing about the whole experience were the margaritas, and even those were forgettable. Do...
Read moreAfter a really long day of taking in the sights, we were very, very hungry. Looked up a Mexican restaurant on the phone and El Mariachi Mexican Restaurant came up. Decided to give it a try based on the reviews. Ordered a carnitas plate along with a chili relleno plate. Let me start by saying that the chips and salsa (along with some beans) that were brought out to the table were top notch. Finished them off, but turned down anymore as we wanted room for our food. Both our plates were nice large portions and both were very tasty. The beans and rice served along with the main dish are excellent. Flour tortillas were warm and very good. Server was right on top of everything. Even got a nice desset as it was my birthday that day. For a place we "picked at random", we totally nailed it. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for some moderately priced and...
