How the mighty have fallen. I have raved about motomaki for years but have watched it slowly lose every good quality it once had.
I frequent this location once a month or so, it’s always been not as good as the Boulder location. I always get two rolls— one tempura shrimp and one of their tuna BLT rolls. I could eat both in one sitting but usually do half of each and come back for seconds later. The rolls have always been ample in size however I’ve noticed them getting smaller and smaller with every visit.
They used to offer some really tasty craft sodas, made with cane sugar. Can’t remember the brand but they were wonderful. Today I paid $3 for a small cup and some under carbonated, mostly water Mountain Dew. I’m sorry but $3 for Pepsi products in a 12oz cup ain’t right. Movie theaters offer more ounce per penny than that. They cheapened their product but didn’t adjust the price.
When I arrived today, there was one team member at the register (I was paying cash and couldn’t order at their very awkward kiosks). I stood there for 8 minutes while she played on her phone, got into an argument with someone working on the line, and then maybe went on break? Quit? Who knows. Finally one of the other FOUR people standing maybe an arms reach away from me acknowledged my existence and took my order.
The place was filthy and I say that because I am used to Motomaki being absolutely immaculate from top to bottom. It was sticky and dingy by comparison.
The tuna BLT roll was good, but so small I ate it in three bites. No wasabi and no ginger. Had to ask for soy sauce (thank god I did). The tempura roll may or may not have had a shrimp tempura in it. Couldn’t tell ya because while I’m used to a hot crispy piece of shrimp there was nothing hot and crispy and whatever other toppings were so saucy and sloppy in the roll that it just tasted like siracha mayo and fake crab. Total bummer
$40 for lunch for 1 person and I expect better out...
Read moreWhen we first walked in the staff was friendly they were super patient and at first were nice. We ordered our food and when all 4 of us ordered the more orders she was getting the more attitude we got. We ordered our food to dine in and we got it in Togo bowls which isn’t too big of a deal but they kind of just threw everything in there and weren’t very neat.
3 of us got water cups and 1 got a soda. When we received our drinks and went to go fill them up the lady at the counter physically watched us to make sure we got water. I understand her concern but she could of been a little subtle about it. When my friend mentioned to her that the soda machine was acting up she didn’t seem to care and said “oh” as we were eating she continued to watch us for some reason without customer servicing us. The restaurant was clean but could of been better the table felt like there was grease build up on them so they could of been wiped down a little more.
Finally, we couldn’t even finish the food cause a few bites in we instantly were not feeling good. Having hair in my food doesn’t help at all either. After we left we continued to not feel good and it’s currently catching up to us which doesn’t make us feel any better obviously. Definitely over priced for the portions and quality. For the most part friendly but we will...
Read moreLove the concept of the restaurant and menu items. Kiosk is a little confusing, then factor in removing items, like some of the other reviews have stated.
First visit I had questions about the menu item and had difficulty removing items. She politely pointed to the menu for me to answer the question myself, and hesitantly offered to ring me up after the third time stating I’m having problems with the kiosk.
Second visit I went straight to counter to repeat my previous order.
Third visit same as second however the attitude of me ordering with him instead of the kiosk was obvious by his body language and lack of eye contact. I inquired more about what can I substitute the items I was removing for? He pointed to the menu. He did not substitute them, he removed items, then charged me for the additional items. When I asked about it, he could not give me an answer. I declined the additional charge.
An hour and a half later I was confined to the toilet. On the third trip I noticed my poop contained the food consumed at Motomaki, my stomach was emptied out.
I paid $20 (including tip) for a meal, not a detox.
I would not be returning and don’t feel comfortable trying a different location. I would advise anyone to stay away from this location, or take your time with the kiosk and don’t have...
