After all these years , this was my first time going to a P F Chang's. My son and daughter in law wanted to go and I was meaning to try them for a while. I've tried the frozen meals in the grocery store and figured they had to be better in person of course. The restaurant was clean and I really liked the decor. We were seated right away and greeted at our table for our drink orders and such.
We got the Chicken Lettuce Wraps and Crab Rangoon as appetizers. For the main dishes we got Chang's Spicy Chicken which is supposed to be like their version of General Tso's Chicken and Pepper Steak. We also got a side of Chicken Fried Rice to share since we were told the two entrees came with a small bowl of white rice each. My son also got a piece of cheesecake for his birthday which he took home to eat later.
The Chicken Lettuce Wraps which are one of my favorites was very plain. The tiny little cup of sauce we got was enough for 2 wraps. We asked for a larger bowl which they did bring us , but it seemed like a totally different sauce. One of the other waitresses told us it wasn't mixed properly and that is why it seemed different and they brought us out another tiny bowl of the first sauce. It is holds about 2 teaspoons of sauce and we had 7 lettuce wraps. The first sauce tasted about right but was very weak and watered down and the second sauce was more of like hot sauce and who knows what.
The 2 main entrees came to the table and we were so surprised at how little they were. These are meant to be shared , but was more like a snack for someone. I've never been to an Asian restaurant that brought you so little for your main entrees and I've eaten at a ton of Asian restaurants especially in Las Vegas. The Chang's Chicken was okay , nothing special. The Pepper Steak was okay also and tasted better if you ate a piece with a piece of bell pepper.
The first time they brought out our Fried Rice it was Shrimp Fried Rice and we ordered Chicken Fried Rice since I don't eat seafood. We waited a few minutes for the new bowl , but began eating the main entrees with the white rice so our food didn't get cold. The Chicken Fried Rice was the only dish that seemed the appropriate size for an Asian restaurant. The Lettuce Wraps were also a good size portion and the Crab Rangoon was 6 pieces. My son and daughter in law liked them. The bowls of white rice that they brought out for each of the 2 entrees was like one handful each ! Also my son ate the Cheesecake the next day and said he gave it a 2 out of 10 and he loves cheesecake.
All in all it was a major disappointment. If the food matched the decor it would be great. The food was I would say just a hair better than Panda Express , but more expensive and smaller portions. We all agreed we will not go back to another...
Read moreNEW REVIEW: PF Chang's has always been our go-to restaurant for quality Asian food with nice ambiance. Until now. In the last month or so, things have changed for the worse. While prices have increased, service, presentation, portion size and quality have decreased. There are too many things to criticize without writing a book. Suffice it to say that this formerly 5-star restaurant has dropped to 2 stars. On the bright side, their expensive cocktails are still very good. I hope they turn this around or they will certainly lose more repeat customers.
ORIGINAL REVIW: PF Chang's is one of our favorite restaurants and this location is our favorite in Las Vegas. We've been coming here for years. Upon arrival, we were seated right away. When our server arrived, I was taken aback. A woman with a beard? Now, I know in this crazy, upside down world that I'm "supposed" to be inclusive but this was just weird and uncomfortable. If it were just that, I would've been ok with it but this server was horrible. My appetizer and main dish were brought out quickly and my wife's order was nowhere to be found. So we shared my dishes until hers arrived. My sushi did not come with a soy sauce dish which was inconvenient. After about 10 minutes, my wife's main dish arrived but not her appetizer. Another faux pas. After awhile, my wife asked for a to-go box and the server brought a box and the check. I guess she didn't think we wanted dessert and coffee. At PF Chang's, we've never had to box up our own food. Then, the server came back again and asked if the check was ready. Because I was still eating my meal I had to say "No, not yet." After finishing and placing my credit card in the check, the server came by and rang it up on her iPad and then handed it to me to add a tip and fill out the payment info while she hovered over me. I've never had a server do that and it was awkward. Usually, they present a check and then I pay through my phone. So, this was unusual and uncomfortable especially since the service was so terrible and I was not feeling particularly generous. The food was good, as usual, but the whole experience was strange and instead of enjoying the rest of our Christmas eve, I found myself wondering WTH was PF Chang's thinking? Are they just checking quota boxes and not hiring based on competency? I think they are and that does not sit well with me. There are plenty of great restaurants in Las Vegas and we will not support those that crumble to the pressure of wokeness and sacrifice quality...
Read moreI write this with a heavy heart and great sadness. We dearly love this place. Or we did. I feel like we've been watching this place die in painfully slow motion. Like we are losing a dear old friend.
Once PF Chang's at Charleston and Rampart was so busy you could not get in. We never called ahead, because we just don't plan like that. We were happy to wait however long it took for two seats to open at the bar. Why? Three reasons. Food Gill Tiffany Good bartenders are great. Great bartenders are rare and this place had a truly spectacular duo behind that bar. Then covid happened. And afterwards, for what reason I cannot fathom, the decision was made to not bring Tiffany back. Not great, but we still had Gill. The food was still good.
Then, there was a push for bartenders to tell customers ready to pay their bill, that they should just scan the code and pay on their phones. I'm 56 years old. I'm not scanning any damn thing to pay my bill. Here's my card. Do what you do. Gill understood that. The jackass district manager did not.
Why would a business ever let talent like Gill and Tiffany walk out the door??
Then, the menu...
Once, so many fantastic dishes, always great. Cheng du lamb... gone. poke bowl... gone. chicken satay... gone. Vietnamese salad... gone. PF Chang's own special version of chicken soup... gone. salt n pepper calamari... gone. Mongolian beef potstickers... gone. garlic noodles... gone. and especially my beloved duck... gone.
Not just the food menu...
Colby Red... gone. Oberon... gone.
And every one of these decisions, this clear planning to fail, can be laid at the feet of management.
Now, no matter when you go in, Friday or Saturday prime time, there is no waiting. The last three times we were there, always on a Friday or Saturday evening, we had the entire bar to ourselves. The entire bar, just the two of us. Nor was the dinning room busy. So many great employees who used to be there. Faces we look for and do not find. While the menus shrink and shrink and shrink.
It's not like there is no one good left. Ryan remains. The last holdout on the sinking ship. I hope he lands someplace good and we find him again when this place finally...
