Bought two lobster rolls and the total quoted to me seemed high. I asked for a receipt and they told me that their printer was broken. I asked to see the charges and, surprise, there’s a 10% service charge. This wasn’t disclosed anywhere before purchase, which is illegal under NH law. No sign, no notice, nothing. All service fees must be clearly and conspicuously posted according to NH statute.
Also, 10% service charge on a take out order? Not cool. Regardless, though, you must post this on your menu!!!
EDIT in response to owners reply:
There was no sign indicating the 10% service fee, despite your claim. This is proven by the fact that when I discovered the fee I asked the clerk how you’re able to charge a fee without disclosing and she brushed it off. If there had actually been a sign wouldn’t she have just pointed to it? Second, EVEN IF, there’s a sign by the register (there wasn’t) that’s not enough since you order OUTSIDE. There has to be disclosure where people are making purchasing decisions. It’s common sense.
Why not do the right thing and add a “+10% service fee on all orders” right on your menu outside? You already have a line that says “+NH tax” so it would be very easy to do. Please stop trying to deceive...
Read moreGreat place to stop for a grab and go meal! The owners are so friendly and welcoming and the food is fantastic. I had the teriyaki chicken with mashed potatoes and my partner had the burrito and they were both delicious. The food is made with quality ingredients and the portions are perfect, you definitely get what you pay for. The shop is also great if you're looking for groceries that are harder to find in a mountain town. They offer a wide selection of local snacks and options for people with different dietary needs. The grocery prices are a bit higher than a traditional supermarket, but they are on par for a place that sells similar natural foods fare.
Our favorite part wasn't the food though, it was a wide selection of cat toys from local New England artisans! They offer a wide range of options for cats (and dogs) of different sizes and interests, and at reasonable prices. Such a rare find and quite a treat for folks looking to pick up a souvenir for a furry friend! Our cat Garth loves his new catnip toy. This place is a gem and we look forward to stopping by here on our future adventures...
Read moreATTENTION GLUTEN FREE PEEPS!!! Stopped by for snacks, because that’s usually what happens to me, but then EVERYTHING changed when I found out I could get a GLUTEN FREE LOBSTER ROLL!!! As a 14 year celiac survivor it’s been that long since I’ve had a proper lobster roll and The Purple Tomato delivered the most scrumptiously tender, packed to the brim, roll of succulent lobster meat I think I’ve EVER had. Perfect ratio of claw, tail, and knuckle meat, just lightly kissed with mayo. My only regret is that I didn’t get a photo before I scarfed it down. Guess I’ll have to go back tomorrow for another!! They also offer tons of GFree snacks and homemade GFree desserts! If you’re in the White Mountains, make it a point to get off Rt 93 at Exit 32 and...
