Learn moreThis was my first time visiting this place. The stars are for the waiter and a very employee there.
We were a group of 5. The Manager took down my name and number of people in my party. He told me that there was a 35 minute wait. Keep in mind, that there weren't many people in the place but okay, we are still in the middle of a pandemic so I was okay with it. Well, he forgot about us. 45 minutes later a employee came and asked me for the nme on the list. I gave him my name. He then asked how many were in my party and I told him there were 5 of us. I don't think my name was on the list. Brian said he would seat us right away and he did. Brian deserves 5 stars. Our server was friendly and helped us right away. He checked on us regularly and refilled our drinks.
I ordered the yellow tail (my favorite fish). I was quite disappointed. The fish was dry and overcooked. The mac and cheese was delicious. The mashed potatoes are good but not great.
We also ordered the trout which was pretty good. The french fries were fresh and full of flavor. The mashed potatoes were good, but not great.
The shrimp with pasta was okay. Not much flavor.
The trout almondine was the star of the show. It was cooked to perfection and the asparagus was delicious. I highly recommend this plate.
The shrimp and scallops were good. The zucchini was grilled and seasoned well.
I am thankful to our server for his kind service and Brian for realizing that we had been waiting a long time to be seated.
Unfortunately, when the Manager forgets about his customers, it doesn't leave a...
Read moreAgain, judge a franchise compared to itself. This place is great in it's own right. I'd absolutlely come here again. Outside seating is kind of loud and right there on the street. Carlsbad location is much larger and has the heated patio option. Cocktails water down real quick, but come well-made and well designed. Get a whiskey sour with foam. Pretty cool looking. Raw food at all locations is great! Oysters are excellent. Never had a bad oyster or any other raw seafood here. Seafood tower is epic and for the price, you're right there or maybe better than other seafood restaurants since all of it tastes fresh with the right amount of taste of the ocean. However, the entrees at all King's Fish House just kind of suck - very mid! $42 for Chilean seabass with a lackadaisical miso sauce and over steamed bok choy is disappointing. I make a killer honey miso glaze, so it's really a waste of a superior product. Fish was cooked tender and moist though, so no knock on the chef's abilities. I'd preferred to have whole bok choy instead of diced up. Their white rice was overly mushy. Too much water when cooking the rice. My go-to would be dozen oysters. At least 6 or more for each person. Chilled farmed mussels, shrimp and clams. Clams and Andouille. Get extra bread. Crab cakes. Grab an appetizer or two per person and just go ham on appetizers here. Add one entree per two or three people. Cioppino with Dungeness crab. Fish and chips. Get veggie sides. The chilled raw food is the highlight. Pair it with alcohol and you're having...
Read moreI recently visited King's Fish House in Long Beach to celebrate my sister's birthday. We were a large party of 14, and we occupied a significant area towards the front of the restaurant. Despite the challenge of accommodating such a large group, the evening turned out to be lovely, thanks to perfect weather and excellent service from one particular staff member.
Although our main server seemed a bit overwhelmed and was often absent, a gentleman on the staff went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. His attentiveness and friendly demeanor made a significant difference, as he frequently checked in on us to make sure we had enough water, drinks, and utensils.
The food, as always at King's Fish House, was outstanding. My father, a big fan of oysters, ordered four large trays, allowing us to sample a variety of types. Each one was delicious. I particularly appreciated that all the food was served together rather than in a staggered manner, which can sometimes be the case with large groups.
Having visited other King's Fish House locations in Santa Monica and downtown Los Angeles, I can say that each has its own unique charm. However, the Long Beach location felt especially cozy and just right for our celebration.
Overall, despite a minor hiccup with our main server, we had a fantastic time. The delicious food and the excellent service from the attentive male server made it a memorable evening. I highly recommend King's Fish House in Long Beach for both its food and its...
