The food was amazing but the staff was rude and the language/gestures used were inappropriate for a professional restaurant. The server attending the bar came to our table and made it clear that she was only for the bar and that asking for a fork from her is not her job and immediately turned her back. She made this clear by using street talk and when she turned her back, she turned instead to a different table. Our table server was no where to be found and was busy with a bigger table as she assumed she would get a bigger tip over there so her attention was directed there. When we placed our order with her, she made it clear we were on her time and was annoyed when questions were made about the menu. She did not come to check in after receiving our food to see if there were any issues and there was. We were missing a biscuit and a waffle and a fork short. My friend got up to get herself a fork and that is when she noticed she needed to come check in on us. That is when we told her about the missing items. She brought back only the waffle and at that point we were almost done completing our meal so it was pointless to ask for the missing biscuit. It was my first experience, and it's sad to say I couldn't enjoy the hype about this restaurant when customer service is not a priority. My friends and I felt so hurt that we almost felt discriminated because everyone else was getting great service and because we are latinas, we feel we did not get inclusive treatment like other tables were recieving. I will sadly never return here despite being born and raised...
Read moreI don't know what it is, but I don't feel welcome here. It seems like they are being put out by somebody eating here. Wait staff is never friendly, always short, and not very helpful. I guess I do know what it is. The food is good. At least the chicken and waffles are. Granted, I've only been here about 6 or 7 times, but I have the same experience every time except for the first time. We ordered grits, and they were watery and bland. No flavor at all. No substitutions. That always blows my mind. My wife wanted the tenders, but instead of coleslaw, she wanted grits. No. Can't do that. No suggestions, no alternatives, nothing. I ordered the chicken with gravy and waffles. It was good. Served in the middle of an oval, beige, plastic plate with nothing but a thigh, a drumstick, and a wing on it. Same with the waffle, except there were two small cups of syrup with them. By the way, I'm not mad at the presentation other than it isn't very appealing, but that can be overlooked if the food makes up for it. It was good. It wasn't great, just good. What I couldn't get past was the price. I don't mind paying $60+ (including tip) for a meal, but it was so ordinary. I had 3 dark meat pieces of chicken and two waffles, and my wife had grits and a waffle. I had lemonade, and she had hot chocolate. $52. The first time I went here, it was great. It was a different experience. Ever since, though, it just isn't the same. I will say that I've never been to another location. I guess I...
Read moreWe flew into Long Beach to go on a cruise. We came in the night before to make sure we would catch all of our deadlines. My travel companion suggested Roscoe’s as they had been there quite a few years back, so we walked here and I was not disappointed.
The restaurant was very clean - even the men’s bathroom when I needed to go use it. The tables and chairs sit kind of low for what I’m used to and I’m on the taller side. This would be my only complaint but it’s not bad enough to lower the rating.
Their menu is a little different than a traditional type of menu. The combinations are unique but they all sound very delicious. I ended up going with the “Economy Chicken” and the #16 made with chicken breast. The Economy Chicken is a plate of fried chicken - drumsticks and thighs. The #16 was a well-formulated sandwich with good flavor that was served with french fries.
Everything tasted very good but the highlight for me was the Roscoe label hot sauces. There was a Pepper hot sauce that was a bit thick with a great flavor, a Buffalo-style hot sauce that was similar to Frank’s Red Hot, and a Reaper hot sauce that had a kick and a decent flavor. They even sell these individually at the checkout. I grabbed the Pepper hot sauce as it was my favorite; very flavorful.
I would recommend trying Roscoe’s for more of a brunch outing as the menu focuses pretty heavily on this sort of meal timing. There are a few dinner combos, but like I said, their combos are unique. You’ll just have to go see...
