This was a more disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in long time.
I came to The 4th Horseman on August 16th with a friend I was excited to bring here. She loves gothic décor, and as a vegetarian, I remembered liking their food when my wife and I ordered takeout years ago during the pandemic. Back then, it felt unique and memorable. Now? It’s the opposite—overcrowded, chaotic, poorly managed, and utterly disrespectful toward their customers.
I arrived at 6:15 PM and placed my order right away: a “No Death to Piggy” pizza with regular mozzarella cheese instead of vegan cheese. I was told this could be done. My friend ordered a pepperoni slice, which she described as “fine, nothing special.” That set the tone—it was average at best.
Then the waiting began. Thirty minutes passed, then forty-five. People who ordered after me received their food while I sat there empty-handed. When I politely asked a server with short, curly reddish-brown hair if she could check on my order, I was met with a scowl and a dismissive, “orders come out as they’re taken.” No courtesy, no effort, just attitude. When I pointed out that others after me were already eating, she simply ignored me.
After another 15 minutes, I asked a different staff member, who actually checked. Turns out my pizza had been sitting there, forgotten, for over 30 minutes. When it finally came out, not only was it cold, but it was incorrect, no vegan sausage and vegan cheese instead of mozzarella. After an hour of waiting, I didn’t even get the pizza I ordered. And not a single apology or acknowledgment was offered. I give the benefit of the doubt, I dont expect perfection. But I do expect courtesy and respect, especially when it is given.
Meanwhile, my friend had long since finished her slice. Her verdict? Even though her experience wasn’t nearly as disastrous as mine, she said she won’t be back—and she definitely won’t recommend this place to anyone she knows.
The whole atmosphere was one of being understaffed, stressed, and disorganized. The staff looked miserable, but instead of channeling that into urgency or professionalism, it spilled over into rudeness and indifference toward paying customers.
The 4th Horseman has gone from being a place I remembered fondly to one I will never set foot in again. An hour-long wait, sub par service, incorrect food, no apology, and outright disrespect from staff—there’s no excuse for any of it. There are far too many restaurants in Long Beach that value their customers to waste time or money here.
If you’re thinking of coming to The 4th Horseman, go somewhere else. Kindly, please take the feedback constructively...
Read moreIf I could give negative stars I would. I'm a local here in long beach I've lived here over 25 years. I've tried most of the family owned and small chain pizza spots here in LBC over the years. I hated everything about my visit here.
Comfort : 0 stars Decorations: 2 star wait time: 0 stars food quality -2 stars service: 0 stars
0 stars overall. There's nothing redeeming about this place. Save your trip, save your money, save your time, eat literally anywhere else if you're looking for pizza.
My friend raved about here and I'd been anxious to try. Stopped in for a slice, got ignored for the first 10 minutes of being there at the counter. Finally got the guy behind the bars attention and ordered a pepperoni to start. Took 35 minutes for a single slice of pizza. The wait was in an un-airconditioned, humid and muggy dark and dusty room. The environment feels like a poorly budgeted haunted house show overcrowded with people who are mostly there to drink. It was so hot and muggy inside I took my pizza to eat and walk around the pine shopping area. I couldn't even get through a third bite. I grew up in public schools and have eaten countless crappy school cafeteria problems no problem, and have delved at some of the best pizza spots here in LA and NY. The fact I couldn't finish a single slice should say enough.
They had my review taken down last time. Just going to repost it every time you try and dishonestly hide peoples negative experiences at your business. The management has made no effort to call after reaching out, either.
In summary, waited in an inhospitable environment for a ridiculous amount of time for pizza that ended up straight in the trash.
0 Stars.
Edit: Manager replied and as expected has the maturity you'd find back in gradeschool. No effort to remedy anything, or ask what was wrong. Just immediately hostile. Goes to show not only that the service here is absolute trash, but the people you're supporting when you purchase anything here -...
Read moreBeing up for pizza, I decide on eating at an eatery with Vegan pizza I remember checking a time ago on my way to eat elsewhere. The 4th Horseman is like a theme restaurant for Death (the fourth Horseman, Revelations 6:7–8). In the eatery, there is a table in front of a television that, during my visit, is playing a movie, Serial Mom (1994). I sit at the table to watch the movie with another patron while awaiting my order. I order a Vegan pizza, Frailty. If there are a lot of pizza orders, be ready to wait for about twenty minutes minimum. The Frailty Pizza (😅) has ingredients with distinct flavors of which the most distinct and noticeable are the Kalamata Olives (the ingredient with the most potent flavor), the Vegan Italian Sausage Crumbles (the ingredient with the second most potent flavor which I think tastes better colder than hot, Vegan meat can taste very different by brand, I wonder how meat of a different brand might taste on the Frailty pizza), and the Cherry Tomatoes (the third ingredient with the most potent flavor like thin warm pulpless V8, in a good way). I like the crust and dough: the crisp is the way I like with this kind of crustful thin pizza (though not with a kind of Sicilian pizza, for example); not too hard, not too soft, with a bit of crunch. Even so, if an offering for a dipping sauce is available, I think it may be a good addition because the crust is good though dries my mouth, and the crust is a sizable portion of the overall pizza. Now, the pizza tastes quite different cold— personally, I think better; the flavors of all ingredients seem more present in my mouth altogether when the pizza is colder than warm. In my experience, customer service is good: employees communicate/are open to communicate throughout the ordering process i.e. by telling if a plate or so is on its way, answering a question about pizza preparation—along...
