This place is a gem for people looking for traditional beef broth soup (including 설렁탕, oxtail soup 꼬리곰탕, beef feet 우족탕) and other protein rich brothes (whole stewed chicken 삼계탕, 북어국 Pollack stew). For even more fleshy protein enrichment without the broth, you can get moist and steamed beef dishes, like the knees and feet. It's truly a nose-to-tail experience, the traditional Korean way.
The ambience is no-frills and no gimmicks. Nice small mom-and-pop restaurant that has been here for 35 years!
For the non-Koreans not familiar with traditional Korean beef broth dishes, these are presented as bland dishes for you the customer to season with salt, red chili pepper, green onions, radish and cabbage kimchi, to your heart's content. The natural flavors should seep thru, with minimal to no artificial or MSG additives.
Unfortunately, one of my foodie friends was expecting something like preseasoned ramen broth. She then expected the servers to perform the seasoning, and then complained how bland the soup was from start to finish. LOL But once you acquire the proper taste, these dishes become quite filling and addictive. Good workout...

This mom & pop restaurant is such an amazing hidden gem, I love this place even more than Hanbat, another well known place for sullungtang. They serve huge portions of soup that feel warm and homemade with love. Their side dishes are simple but extremely delicious, this shop’s fresh kimchi is the best I’ve ever had.
🍽️Ordered: Sul lung tang ($18) Galbi tang ($23) Jar of fresh kimchi ($17)
The soups are so rich with the nutrients from the beef bones and are esp satisfying on days where you crave a nourishing soup. The sullungtang comes completely unsalted so you can adjust the sodium to your liking👌🏻 The galbi tang is so flavorful and comes with 4 large short ribs that fall off the bone when you pick them up! The sullungtang used to be my favorite but now I think the galbi tang has taken its place..🍜
Each portion comes with a generous portion of tender meat, noodles, and rice. The purple rice is my favorite but you have to tell the...
Read moreDear lord, this place is legit. The sullungtang is quite possibly the best I've had across LA and Chicago. On par with HanBat -- both god-tier for their own subtle reasons. Their gomtang is also seriously good. Seriously. Good. I'm so glad I booked the nearby hotel. Been coming here at least every other day for my lunch breaks (not an exaggeration). Also, the server there is an angel! She told us about how they've prided themselves in their broths for many decades. When I asked if the gomtang is good, she responded in Korean, "Order it. Our broth is good. You'll see what I mean." I saw what she meant. A restaurant whose servers have this much pride is rare. This place is a real, genuine gem. Their menu isn't very large and I can see why. They know what they do well and they can't be bothered to let up on that gas pedal. Also, the outdoor seating is amazing! Love those big tents. You won't regret coming here. If you do, well, then, you're just,...
