Read moreOrdered the pastrami w fries for about $20. I'm always courteous by default, even came back at pickup w more cash to tip bc the change from the order was meager.
Customer AFTER me had the same but was eat-in order - looked good, healthy to generous portion pastrami on fresh soft rye. His order was served BEFORE mine.
I opened my to-go box to be disappointed. My order looked like a BLT bc the pastrami seemed single layered and was grey. It also wasn't requested but my rye bread was toasted/grilled.
We concluded the sandwich was probably older and they grilled it to mask the fact.
I'm Asian-American and this unfortunately was not an isolated treatment. For whatever reason, no matter if we're polite and courteous, some Hispanics will not treat us in kind. I have Hispanic friends who apologetically admitted as much for resentment I will not detail here.
I harbor nothing but goodwill in my heart and I won't name the person that served us but that was a very expensive "BLT" sandwich but worse of all, it left me feeling like this person saw me as "less than" and that I did not deserve to be treated as well as his average customer, no matter my own courtesy...

I had visions of zucchini and yellow squash and peppers - or any of the other gorgeous spring and summer vegetables that are in season - served atop a bed of lush mixed greens. Far from it! What I received is a bland mix of warm, but not grilled, celery (yep, CELERY), carrots and water chestnuts over green lettuce. This is a pathetic excuse for a Grilled Veggie Salad and hardly worth the 9 bucks it came to including tax. I was so looking forward to trying Phil's and now I'm fairly certain that I'll never venture down there for another try. Two big...
