I have eaten at the Studio City location of this historical restaurant for many years. I was a bit disappointed with my visit to this new location in Pasadena, as I expected the same quality as at the Studio City location. There ambiance and charm, good service, you felt the history with the red leather booths, black and white photos and Americana throughout. But it fell a little short on the quality of the food.
My husband's favorite sandwich here is the Monte Cristo, He was quite looking forward to dining on this classic, but it was not made traditionally. There was ham and 2 additional cheeses, which changed the flavor sensation he was ready to enjoy. When he decided to return it, they were more than happy to make it as he desired, but he was not fully satisfied with the sandwich.
I chose an Omelette, Apple Bacon, Jack Cheese and Avocado, which came with hash browns and choice of toast and jam. I could not taste the eggs because there was so much bacon, but the avocado was fresh, and hash browns very tasty.
This location has only been opened for 5 years. It has not had the advantage of the history and quality that other locations have enjoyed. I might visit this location again should the quality of the food rise to the level we have enjoyed at other locations. When the Monte Cristo was returned, we could hear the manager instructing the cook how to remake the sandwich traditionally. Perhaps we caught the diner in a period of new cooks who are not familiar with the entire menu. We do not know, but the quality of food needs improvement before we return again.
UPDATE 6/4/22. Farmers Market location is the quality and service that we are accustomed to from Dupars. The menu is quite extensive (I posted photos of sections of it because it was about 8-10 pages) Service is very good, and we were quite pleased with our dinners. If you just want pie, the bakery is located outside the restaurant in Farmer's Market.
This location has patio and indoor dining facing Fairfax. The door entry has all the COVID protocols posted. At busy times you have to wait outside to be seated.
COVID mandates are constantly changing in Los Angeles area. At time we visited there was no mask requirement, it was optional. We visited late afternoon before dinner rush but we were seated quite a distance from other 2-3 parties dining at same time. I would check their website or call...
Read moreI don’t know how long this restaurant has been in business, but this kind of business needs to end. I went there with family on Christmas Day, quite reluctant I might add, to have a Christmas dinner. I’m opposed to eating out on a holiday because I don’t think anyone should have to work on a holiday.
Anyway, I ended up at this restaurant and after being seated waited 20- minutes to have a server even take notice of our table. Once our order was placed, it took approximately one hour to get the food brought to the table. One person ordered the Christmas pancakes concoction, which appeared somewhat close to the picture and wasn’t bad. I made the huge mistake of apparently ordering the worst dish on the menu in the braised tri tips with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. Not only did it take an eternity to get my order, but I would rate it slightly below what I would imagine prison food to be like. The meat was tough, tasteless, and cold and covered in jarred tasting gravy. The mashed potatoes were tasteless and cold, and the steamed broccoli was just raw wetted down cold broccoli. Another person ordered the steak and it came back well undercooked.
I believe we spent about 2 1/2 hours there, which was a complete waste of time. And to top it off, the only restroom was one that was outside and had a 45-minute wait time in the line that formed outside of it.
Someone should tell Du-Par’s that there not just selling pies there, which are pretty good. They are in a highly competitive business that should be selling and delivering great dining experiences. They are far from it!
I wanted to complain, but it was Christmas. Of course the level of apathy and delusion displayed by most of the staff would have proven to be a waste of time anyway.
If they read this and want to try to make things right they can. Just care about the people you serve!
You never have to worry about ever seeing me...
Read moreVery rude customer service from so called manager/owner. I called this morning around 630, asking if they were open? I had no clue that the restaurant was opened and not the bakery. Me and my family went to the bakery. The manger was their folding boxes. We asked to purchase some pastries and was met with the most rudest inconsiderate attitude you could experience. It was our fault, according to her tone, that we didn’t know to ask HER employee which part of their establishment was open. I looked at her incredulously and said, I didn’t know to ask that question. She huffed and puffed demonstrating exaggeration. Right from the bat her attitude was deplorable. She kept dramatizing her frustration like she wanted the security guard to “intervene.” Let’s say he was one of those guards who overstepped their boundaries in regards to something that had a lot to do with miscommunication, bad customer and nothing to do with security? She could not care any less that paying customers were not given the appropriate information. I told her that she needs to tell her employees to SPECIFY what is opened and what is closed. She offered nothing for our inconvenience or lack of anything resembling GOOD customer service. Idk. Maybe she was overwhelmed and forgot to be customer service oriented. I’d hate to THINK her unprofessionalism had anything to do with us being Black American. Speaking of BA I’ve gone to this est twice. Each time I have not seen ANY Black Americans employed there. You take our money but don’t give back to OUR communities by hiring our ppl. This will no longer...
