What I loved most was the concept of Soondubu jjigae served in a jeongol-style pot that's perfect for sharing. There's something mesmerizing about watching the soup bubble away right at the table to keep it piping hot. And when it tastes as good as it looks, it's the kind of comforting dish you crave when you're in the mood for something hearty and warming. You can keep adding the add-ons(topping) and the staff will refill the broth. It's like an everflowing spring.
Another highlight was the welcoming atmosphere. The staff were all super friendly and attentive, and they even told us about the BYOB option (there's a small liquor shop across the street).
We also ordered the stir-fried large intestine, which my friend highly raved, and I've got to say - it exceeded my expectations. I've never had it prepared like this before: crispy, flavorful, and with a great texture. Definitely a must-try.
Their boneless Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) was phenomenally good, which reminded me of Gcova in Korea. I don't think I will ever get tired of it.
On my 3rd visit, I tried the nutty perilla powder white tofu base this time. As it comes with veggies along with the super soft silken tofu, I added only seafood, and porridge at the end. I recommend this combo to families with kids, if you're not into spicy food, or when you crave the 'cool' broth (IYKYK). It was ample portion for two hungry people. The server told us you can ask for the spicy yangnyum (seasoned paste) on the side.
Hope more people would discover this place as it has thoughtfully curated dishes and their attentiveness on what they serve...
Read moreWe were in KTown and were looking for a nearby place to eat and fortunately happened upon Soondol Tofu House. What a fantastic find! It is still their soft opening but everything was perfect from the service to the food to the value.
We knew we were in for a great meal from the start when we received our banchan - each one was great, especially the bean sprouts and one I’ve never had before which was a like a tapenade made with spicy green pepper.
One pot with a handful of ingredients is more than enough food for 2 people. You can adjust your spiciness by titrating the gochujang paste and broth as it cooks. Broth is added throughout the meal. Servings were generous and prices were reasonable.
Eventually the restaurant will become a gastropub. The owner is kind and welcoming. Very happy to have found a new...
Read moreI had such a wonderful experience at Soondol Tofu House. The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned — and every dish felt like it was made with care. The staff were also incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the meal even more enjoyable. My friends visiting from Korea even said it felt like they were back home. I also highly recommend ordering the pork cutlet with your meal — it’s crispy on the outside, thick and juicy on the inside, and pairs perfectly with the spicy soup by balancing out the heat. It’s a place I would definitely come back to and highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic, comforting...
